Would anybody be interested? It was the seed of our original AGOTR back on the old board and I remember it being a blast. This one would exist separately from the '80s shows - as a companion.
I would have no problem researching and putting together a master-list of talent active in, say, 1993. We could then come up with a simple draft plan - who among us doesn't like a big old draft?
A few of our regular readers who aren't currently writing may find an interest in this - and there are plenty of promotions active in '93. Or you could make up your promotion. The possibilities, as they say, are endless.
Thoughts?

Thanks both! We also have the original threads from the AGOTR archived here so that should help in gathering active names too.
My thinking is if we get 1 or 2 more people interested, I’ll start work on it. 4-5 of us make it feasible - though we certainly would have enough talent for more than that if others joined later.

Everyone sort of looks down on that period, but there were some good things going on. Flair’s WWF run, I believe, was pretty good. Mix in Hennig’s face turn, you had the Steiner vs. Money Inc, WCW had Sing vs. Vader, Muta, Austin and Pillman, and then Austin as a single. There are some things to build on. Plus you had Eastern Championship Wrestling, and the USWA around.

Not to mention Three Musketeers era New Japan and the brutal style of the UWFi.

I fired up YouTube and searched for 1993 WWF. They had a clip of the final “Prime Time Wrestling” show. Vince tells us, next week, they debut a new show called “Monday Night Raw” and the rest is history.

When WWF wasn't bogged down with the Mabels and Mantaurs, there was plenty of great stuff in the New Generation era. I know it's probably not something anyone else will agree on, but I'd rather watch Bret vs. Owen than Flair vs. Steamboat.

I liked that era of the WWF. There was silly stuff like Kamala bowling. I saw the first interview with Doink when he was the unknown clown in the crowd. When he was “evil” and used his act to attack babyfaces, it was a pretty good storyline. Also, here are some All Japan results from 1993, some pretty big names here. wwfoldschool.com/ajpw-all-japan-pro-wrestling-1993/

I'm partial to 1991 AJPW but really, any year between 89-95 is just phenomenal. It's crazy to think it may have been better if Tsuruta hadn't had his health problems.

I agree, as awesome as the early 90s were in All Japan, if Tsuruta hadn’t had his health issues, it could have been even better!

Now having said that, the more I watch on NJPW World, I’m starting to think New Japan may have actually had the better product in the 90s!

Now having said that, the more I watch on NJPW World, I’m starting to think New Japan may have actually had the better product in the 90s! AJPW was so committed to its long-term story of building the next generation that it definitely moved slower than NJPW at that time. NJPW also had the epic rise of Hashimoto - a guy who doesn’t get enough credit these days.

I'd personally prefer to reboot early 1980s in some way. Not to sh// on this but that’s my personal preference because I’m old.

I forget about Smokey Mountain. It’s not my favorite, but it’s pretty popular. So you had WWF, WCW, ECW, SMW, USWA, not to mention Japan. If we wanted to stick with actual promotions, or create your own. I am also sure I’m forgetting someone.

Just looking through, was Bonnie Blackstone announcing in 1993, and when did John “Pee Wee” More start refereeing with ECW?
Also Joey Styles and Craig DeGeorge were announcing for the NAWA in 1993.

I think Danny Davis was starting to run proto-OVW shows in 93 as well, though I don't think the promotion was named OVW (or OVCW) yet.

Kicking off in January 1993 would be the optimal time because ECW is starting, Raw is starting, Bischoff just took over WCW. If we got the interest I’m in. I can run a super long draft on New Year’s Day if y’all want

I can run a super long draft on New Year’s Day if y’all want That'd be amazing. El Topo came up with a pretty awesome backstory of Vince taking a plea deal over the steroid case and thus forcing WWF into a weaker position. Vince has little choice but to join an NWA alliance to crown a new NWA Champion with all of the other territories or business would go under.
