Wild West Wrestling – Tag Team Title Tournament
Saturday, May 31st, 1985
Thomas & Mack Center, Las Vegas, NV
OPENING ROUND:
1) The Cowboys: Scott Casey & Ron Bass defeated Rene Goulet & Duke Myers at 6:38 when Casey pinned Goulet following a running bulldog headlock out of the corner. The new duo of Casey & Bass controlled a good portion of this match and continued their momentum from their impressive debut on television. The Cowboys advance to the second round of the tournament.
2) The Samoans: Afa & Samu defeated Billy Anderson & Scott McGhee at 8:12 when Samu pinned Anderson with a powerslam after a whip into the ropes. The 'wild' Samoans attacked their opponents before the bell and didn't let up as they worked over Anderson for the majority of the contest. McGhee made the hot tag eventually and had things going his way but made the mistake of tagging the battered Anderson back in before he was ready and it turned out to be the downfall of the team. The Samoans advance to the second round of the tournament.
3) The Breakdancers: Brickhouse Brown & 'Stylin' Mark Ragin defeated The New Zealand Sheepherders: Jonathan Boyd & 'Crazy' Luke Williams by disqualification at 11:01 when Boyd, caught off guard by the quicker Brown, made a snap decision and accidentally backdropped Brickhouse over the top rope as all four men were brawling in the ring. The Sheepherders had dominated a good portion of the contest until Brown made the hot tag and hit the ring a house of fire. The moment Boyd made the mistake you could visibly see it on his face as he realized the referee had been 'right there' to see it. Once the announcement was made that his team had lost, Boyd went absolutely BALISTIC as he and Williams completely DESTROYED both Breakdancers and left the ringside area only after several officials and referees had to come out to the ringside area and lead them away. It was clear that the Sheepherders only goal here tonight was to leave as Wild West Tag Team Champions and it doesn't look like that is going to happen tonight, but it also doesn't look as if there is any possibility of Brown and Ragin continuing as well. The Breakdancers advance to the second round of the tournament, but at what a cost!
4) Magnum Force: Dave Peterson & Scott Hall defeated The Interns #1 & #2 (w/Tux Newman) at 18:15 when Hall pinned Intern #2? following a double running/flying shoulder tackle from both Force members after the two Interns collided in the ring after Hall escaped from being held from behind by one of the Interns. Newman's involvement had helped his team in the early going, but in the end he was knocked off the ring apron as the Force whipped the Intern into the ropes for the double shoulder tackle with Hall then making the cover to take the fall while Peterson watched over his partner to make sure nobody was going to make the save. Magnum Force advances to the second round of the tournament.

SEMI-FINALS:
5) The Samoans: Afa & Samu defeated The Breakdancers: Brickhouse Brown & 'Stylin' Mark Ragin at 6:32 when Afa pinned Ragin after a 'measured up' falling headbutt. Brown and Ragin tried to fight valiantly, but were simply in no condition to handle the quick turn around after the beating at the hands of the Sheepherders. It was announced prior to the contest that Boyd and Williams had been removed from the building. Apparently they had trashed the locker room as well when they took their tirade to the back. The Samoans advance to the tournament finals.
6) The Cowboys: Scott Casey & Ron Bass defeated Magnum Force: Scott Hall & Dave Peterson by referee stoppage at 15:22 when Peterson could not continue after he crotched himself after attempting a leap frog on Casey. This was an evenly contested match up to this point with both sides following the rules for the most part, though Bass was a bit aggressive at times. Casey backed off when the injury occurred and tried to allow Peterson to recover while Bass yelled at his partner to 'go in for the kill' since the titles were on the line. The Cowboys advance to the tournament finals.
7) Wild West Heavyweight Champion Jacques Rougeau pinned Davey Boy Smith at 33:33 following a missile drop kick from the second rope to retain the title. Both men tried to one up one another in the opening part of the contest, but each combatant proved to be the equal of the other when it came to grappling on the canvas. As the match continued, things got a little bit rougher with each man beginning to throw some closed fists, which they were warned about by the referee. At one point, the bout even spilled to the floor with both men risking being counted out. Both men were worn down by the thirty minute mark as they had both been going at it at a consistently fast pace. Smith went for a delayed standing vertical suplex, but Jacques was able to slide down Davey Boy's back and turn it into a rolling reverse with a bridge for a near fall. Smith quickly took back over the contest, however, and went for the running power slam, only to have Jacques push the challenger off into the corner chest first. Davey staggered backwards out of the corner as Rougeau quickly scampered between his opponent's legs and then hopped up onto the second rope and threw a shoulder fake like he was going for a cross body block. Smith hit the deck in an attempt to avoid what he thought was coming, but when he returned to his feet and turned around he was met squarely in the jaw with the big drop kick from the second rope. That was enough to allow Rougeau to take the fall and keep the title. (14th defense)
TOURNAMENT FINALS:
8) The Cowboys: Scott Casey & Ron Bass defeated The Samoans: Afa & Samu at 12:47 when Casey pinned Afa to become the first Wild West Wrestling Tag Team Champions. The Samoans had a longer break and easier road to the finals and it really showed as they got out in front of the match and controlled it from nearly the out set. Eventually, the Samoans were able to isolate Bass in their corner and really begin working him over. The firey Casey tried to help, but only served to make matters worse. This caused the referee to stop what he was doing and usher Bass back out of the ring, but Scott was really putting up a fight. It was at the time that Tux Newman ran out and slid a chair into the ring for the Samoans to use. Afa then grabbed Bass by his arms from behind, while Samu grabbed the chair, paused a second to look at it and then took a wild swing that knocked his partner into the middle of next week as Ron escaped and ducked out of the way. Bass then was able to shove Samu out of the ring through the ropes and make the cover for the fall on Afa as the referee returned to action. The Cowboys win the tournament to become the first WWW Tag Team Champions, but their celebration was short lived as The Interns jumped the new champions from behind, hit each man with their double team finisher and then left with Newman, who had taken the newly won tag team title belts from ringside, drapping one over each shoulder, a big smile on his face, as he left.

STEEL CAGE MATCH:
9) 'The Canadian Freight Train' Jos LeDuc pinned Harley Race at 15:38 to win the 'steel cage' match. Both men fought 'tooth and nail' and each used the steel liberally until both men were a bloody mess. This bout was very slow paced and methodical but both men really brought the intensity and you could just tell that they didn't like one another. The end came when LeDuc reversed an Irish whip and sent Harley back into the corner from which he had just come from. This caught the referee off guard and he ended up getting sandwiched by Race and knocked out of action. The collision in the corner had such force that the top rope ended up snapping. This allowed LeDuc to take the metal hook that holds the turnbuckle in place and use it to blast Race in the head to a sickening thud. Jos covered Harley and eventually the groggy referee came around to make the count. Following the contest, LeDuc threatened to do further damage to Race with the object, but the face locker room emptied with Jacques Rougeau leading the charge to chase 'the Canadian Freight Train' out of the cage. Race looked to have a gash in his head worthy of stitches as he was stretchered out of the ring.
