THE WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION PRESENTS
SATURDAY, JULY 26, 1985
TAPED JULY 3 AT THE CIVIC CENTER IN PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND
GORILLA MONSOON, JESSE “THE BODY” VENTURA and VINCE MCMAHON are ringside to open the show, and they welcome us to another episode of WWF SUPERSTARS OF WRESTLING!
This week, we’ll see the likes of the Hart Foundation, Jim Brunzell and Don Muraco in action!
Plus, Cpl. Kirchner, a former US Army Paratrooper, makes his TV debut!
And, in the main event, a tag team match of epic proportions, as Hillbilly Jim teams up with WWF World champion Hulk Hogan to face the duo of King Kong Bundy and Big John Studd!
VINCE talks about a recent show at Madison Square Garden, where Hogan defended the WWF title against Bundy.
Footage is shown of Bundy’s count-out win over Hogan at MSG on July 21. Bundy drove Hogan into the ringpost outside the ring, then delivered the Avalanche against the unforgiving steel post! Hogan was taken from ringside on a stretcher.
JESSE thinks that Bundy’s got Hogan’s number, and it’s only a matter of time before we see the big man from Atlantic City crowned as the new World Heavyweight champion!
THE HART FOUNDATION (Bret Hart & Jim “the Anvil” Neidhart) defeat GEORGE SOUTH & FRANKIE LAINE. Bret and Neidhart work together like a finely-tuned machine. Bret pins Laine after he and Neidhart hit Laine with the Hart Attack.
VINCE talks about another match that took place at the same Madison Square Garden show as the footage that we saw earlier, and this match featured their colleague, Gorilla Monsoon!
Footage is shown of Monsoon pinning Angelo Mosca in their match at MSG.
VINCE says that Gorilla may be retired, but he showed there that he hasn’t lost a step!
VINCE sends us to MEAN GENE OKERLUND for the WWF UPDATE.
OKERLUND says that this week, the WWF Update will focus on a newcomer to the WWF, who will make his TV debut on today’s program, CORPORAL KIRCHNER!
We see footage of Kirchner, in army fatigues, running an obstacle course, followed by footage of the former Paratrooper jumping out of a plane.
MEAN GENE says that Kirchner is a stand-up guy who served his country with honour, and he thinks the Corporal will go a long way here in the World Wrestling Federation.
VINCE, JESSE and GORILLA talk about Cpl. Kirchner, who makes his debut next. Jesse says that he heard Kirchner is actually a deserter, and he’s wrestling under an assumed identity. Gorilla tells Jesse to stop it, this is a decorated veteran they’re talking about.
CPL. KIRCHNER beats THE MASKED GLADIATOR. Kirchner’s debut is an impressive one, as he puts the Gladiator away in short order, hitting a fallaway slam for the 1, 2, 3.
JUMPIN’ JIM BRUNZELL (w/ B. Brian Blair) beats ISLANDER TAMA (w/ Mr. Fuji). Tama gives Brunzell a tough match, and looks like he’s on his way to victory after dropping Brunzell with a vicious savate kick, but when Tama goes to the top rope and attempts a diving headbutt, Brunzell rolls out of the way at the last second. Tama crashes to the mat, and when he slowly climbs back to his feet, Brunzell whips Tama into the ropes, then connects with a standing dropkick as Tama rebounds off the ropes. That’s all she wrote for Tama, as Brunzell picks up the 1, 2, 3.
MEAN GENE OKERLUND is backstage with the WWF Tag Team Champions THE DREAM TEAM and their manager, “LUSCIOUS” JOHNNY V.
GENE talks about the 8-man tag team match that took place on Superstars of Wrestling two weeks ago.
Footage is shown of the 8-man tag match, where Bravo is pinned after a miscommunication between Brutus and Bravo.
GENE starts to ask Johnny about this, but Valiant cuts him off, and says that Gene is just trying to create problems where there aren’t any. He says that it was a mistake on Brutus’ part, that’s all.
OKERLUND then tries to get Beefcake’s thoughts on it, but Bravo interrupts, saying that the Dream Team are the greatest tag team in the world, and that’s what Gene should be talking about.
GENE starts to say something, but Johnny again cuts him off, and says that they’ve had enough of Gene, and his agenda, trying to make them look bad. This interview is OVER!
With that, Johnny V leads Brutus and Bravo away, leaving Mean Gene to speculate as to whether there’s more there than Johnny Valiant is willing to admit.
DON MURACO (w/ Mr. Fuji) beats BOB MARCUS. The match lasts all of about 90 seconds before Muraco drops Marcus on his head with the reverse piledriver, and puts one foot on Marcus’ chest for the 1, 2, 3.
An ad airs, hyping the new issue of WWF magazine, which features stories on George Steele being put through speech therapy by Capt. Lou Albano, an interview with King Kong Bundy, and cameras followed Mr. Fuji and the Magnificent Muraco on a shopping excursion along Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.
HULK HOGAN & HILLBILLY JIM (w/ Uncle Elmer) defeat KING KONG BUNDY & BIG JOHN STUDD (w/ Classy Freddie Blassie) via DQ. The action is fast and furious in this one, as Hogan is looking for some payback for what Bundy did to him recently at MSG, as well, both Hogan and Jim are looking to avenge the injury to their friend Andre the Giant at the hands of Bundy and Studd. Late in the match, referee Earl Hebner tries to get Bundy to stop choking Hogan on the ropes, but Bundy just shoves him aside. When Hebner tries, more forcefully, to break it up, Bundy slugs him, then tosses him through the ropes and to the floor!
With Hebner out of the way, Big John Studd joins Bundy, and they gang up on Hogan. Hillbilly Jim attempts to break it up, but he finds himself on the wrong end of a 2-on-1 attack.
Uncle Elmer goes to climb into the ring to help, but Freddie Blassie blasts him across the back with a chair, knocking Elmer to the floor.
Suddenly, the crowd errupts, as someone emerges in the aisleway . . . IT’S ANDRE THE GIANT!!!!!!
Andre, on crutches, makes his way to the ring, first hitting Blassie with one of his crutches, then climbing into the ring and swinging the crutch, forcing Studd and Bundy away from Hogan.
Things don’t go as Andre planned though, as Bundy and Studd both close in on him, moving to opposite sides of the Giant, so if he tries to hit one of them with his crutch, the other can attack. Studd grabs the crutch as Andre goes to hit him with it.
Studd and Bundy continue to threaten Andre, and things are not looking good for the Giant. However, Hogan and Hillbilly Jim have recovered, and they attack Bundy and Studd, eventually clearing them from the ring!
Hogan, Jim, Elmer and Andre stand tall in the ring as the show comes to an end.
VINCE, GORILLA and JESSE wrap things up, and Vince hypes next week’s show!
