ROSS: Welcome to another great hour of Mid South Wrestling! The NWA World Champion, “Nature Boy” Ric Flair, is here and his opponent for today, Wendell Cooley, is up in the ring. I’ll talk to Mr. Flair in just a moment. The man Flair will defend that title against in the Superdome on July 6, Magnum TA, will take on the tough Mr. Ebony on today’s program! Hacksaw Duggan will defend the TV Title against Jumbo Tsuruta of the Mantell Corporation! North American Champion Michael “P.S.” Hayes will wrestle. Stan Hansen will take on veteran Nelson Royal! We also have our first look at a newcomer to Mid South, Calgary, Alberta, Canada native Bruce Hart will be featured in a music video! Cowboy Bill Watts will give us the complete card for the Superdome Summer Spectacular on July 6th and we’ll talk to Buddy Roberts about where he stands regarding the match between his Freebird brothers, Michael Hayes and Terry Gordy on that spectacular card! Ric Flair, today, you have a rising young star in the ring in Wendell Cooley….
FLAIR: What I have is another punk like Terry Allen! Wendell Cooley, today, I’m takin you to school just like I’ll do to Terry Allen in the Superdome! This kid is not in my league, Jim Ross! He doesn’t belong in the ring with the World Champion and he’s gonna get an education on nationwide TV!
MAGNUM TA COMES OUT AND HE’S GETTING RIGHT IN THE CHAMP’S FACE!
Magnum: Ric Flair, I respect you as the World Champion, but I’m sick of you disrespecting me and, now, disrespecting my good friend, Wendell Cooley! Tomorrow, at the Superdome, it doesn’t matter if you call me a punk or anything else, I’m gonna give you the match of your life!
FLAIR: This guy in the ring is not in my league! If I break his leg, it’s all on Cowboy Bill Watts and Grizzly Smith for putting him in over his head! He’s going to school just like you will at the dome, Terry Allen!
Flair struts to the ring and Magnum stands at ringside, evidently he is going to scout the champ! Ric Flair vs. Wendell Cooley; World Title not on the line in this bout! Cooley starts off on fire as magnum smacks the ring apron and cheers, Cooley hits Flair with dropkicks, armdrags and a backdrop! Flair rolls out of the ring and walks over to the desk….
FLAIR: Bill Watts, it’s obvious that this guy is not in my league!
Flair stalks back into the ring. The champ takes control with a series of chops, but Cooley comes fighting back and regains control of the match as Magnum TA cheers him on! Flair seems to get more and more frustrated! At one point, he rolls out of the ring and has a shoving match with TA…Flair winds up on his butt on the concrete floor! Flair re-enters the ring and Cooley continues to beat him from pillar to post! Watts and Ross both say we are seeing a starmaking performance from Cooley! After more fast paced action, with Cooley having the edge, Wendell whips Flair hard into the buckles….Flair does his infamous flip, runs the ring apron, goes to the next corner, and comes off the middle turnbuckle with a flying bodypress on Cooley! ONE….TWO…THREE! Magnum slaps the ring apron in disappointment as Flair has beaten Wendell Cooley here on today’s program!
ROSS: And that’s why he’s World’s Heavyweight Champion, folks! Stay with us, Stan Hansen vs. Nelson Royal right after this!

Stan Hansen (w/ Ken Mantell) wrestles Nelson Royal. Royal gives Hansen all he want early on, but eventually, the veteran falls prey to the Lariat and Hansen gets the pin! After the bell, Hansen is yelling for Hacksaw Duggan and Watts points out that he’ll get his wish shortly!

North American Champion Freebird Michael “P.S.” Hayes tunes up for his title defense against his Freebird brother Terry Gordy by taking on Tony “Hurricane” Zane. Gordy is spotted watching the match from the interview set. Hayes gets a convincing win by pinning Zane after a bulldog.
ROSS: Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy was watching that last match with a great deal of interest. July 6th is only hours away, Terry!
GORDY: Michael Hayes has been talkin a lot of trash and seems to want to turn this into something personal, Jimbo! I just wanna rassle and be the best I can be! Now, even Buddy is callin me on the phone and tellin me I should just cancel this match! I’ll be there and Mike, you better be ready for a real tough rasslin match, brother! I ain’t gonna hold nothing back and I expect the same from you! This is gonna be the best match at the Superdome! Even Ric Flair won’t be able to top me and Michael Hayes!
ROSS: So, Budy Roberts has tried to get you to back out of the match?
GORDY: Buddy is like a politician or something, Jim. He wants to settle everything behind closed doors. Well, I got me a title match and the man who has the title just happens to be a Freebird bropther! It can’t be helped, Buddy!
ROSS: Buddy Roberts is scheduled for an interview next and I’ll try to find out where he stands!

ROSS: Before our next match, I have Buddy Roberts of the Fabulous Freebirds here with me. At the Superdome Summer Spectacular, your Freebird brothers Michael Hayes and Terry Gordy will go against each other for Hayes’ North American title. My question is this: Who do you side with in this match?
ROBERTS: Jim Ross, I don’t like this one bit! We should be taking care of jerks like Magnum TA and Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Greg Gagne! I’ll tell you what I’m going to do at the Superdome! I have a vested interest in this match, so I’m going to pull up a chair, sit in a neutral corner and watch; may the best man win!
ROSS: Well, I guess that answers my question! We have a fantastic Canadian star from the province of Alberta who will make his Mid South debut at the Superdome. His name is Bruce Hart and here is a special music video feature on this rising star!
VTR:
A music video set to the above tune featuring Bruce Hart highlights from the Stampede promotion.
In our next match, Magnum TA takes on Mr. Ebony. Ebony is accompanied by Kevin Sullivan and Ric Flair joins Ross & Watts on commentary. Flair spends most of the match comparing TA unfavorably to himself. Magnum takes it to Ebony, but seems distracted by the presence of Sullivan and Flair. Finally, Magnum hits the belly to belly on the masked man and goes for the pin! Sullivan waves in Purple Haze and Lord Humongous! Sullivan and his men jump in and start beating on magnum TA! Magnum wins via DQ!
FLAIR: Jim Ross, Bill Watts, This is what is known as “none of my business”! Looks like Mr. Allen has made some enemies with his unsportsmanlike conduct!
Now, Sullivan and his goons are working on TA’s leg! Watts is asking Flair if he is in cahoots with Sullivan and his men to injure Magnum TA’s leg! Flair denies it! Finally, Nelson Royal, Wendell Cooley and Hacksaw Duggan hit the ring, wielding steel chairs! Sullivan, Ebony, Lewin, & Humongous bail out! Magnum gets to his feet and he looks mad! Flair will have a fired up challenger on his hands at the Superdome!

As could be expected, Tsuruta gives Duggan all he can handle and comes very close to winning the belt on several occasions! It looks bad when Jumbo goes for the backdrop suplex…Duggan blocks and counters with an atomic drop! Duggan hits the spear! Jim Duggan pins Tsuruta and retains his title in a remarkable display of toughness! Mantell seems very upset by this result. Hansen comes to ringside, brandishing his bullrope and making threatening gestures at Duggan! Watts is saying they have to wait for the Superdome, but it looks like we might see it here! NO!
