CWA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING ‘85
Saturday, July 5, 1985
Hosts: Lance Russell and Dave Brown
Referees: Paul Morton & Jerry Calhoun
HIGHLIGHTS:
*CWA Heavyweight Champion Jerry “The King” Lawler was out to open the show with Lance Russell and Dave Brown. Lawler jokes that he used some of Bill Dundee’s own tactics to beat the Superstar last week. This brings out Bill Dundee, who is none tOo pleased and calls The King a cheater. Dundee wants another title shot and he wants it this Monday! Lawler doesn’t think he has anything left to achieve in beating Bill Dundee again so the Superstar can take a walk as far as he is concerned. Dundee is furious and balls up his first, but the proceedings are interrupted again by none other than Jimmy Hart and Koko B. Ware! Hart calls Ware the rightful Southern Champion, and the only reason Koko isn’t standing here with the belt was because Paul Morton is the most corrupt referee in Memphis! However, Jimmy Hart says it’s time that he gets back to embarrassing The King so he wants Koko to get a title shot this Monday. Lawler smiles and says that he has missed Jimmy Hart too these last few months – particularly he’s missed the look on Jimmy’s face every time The King beats a First Family member! Lawler accepts Koko B. Ware’s challenge and says he’ll be ready for Monday night. Hart and Ware are pleased, but a furious Bill Dundee complains to Lance Russell that he has been robbed again!
*Eddie Marlin makes his way out and says that this Monday, “Macho Man” Randy Savage’s suspension will be officially up. And because Randy Savage stayed away from the matches last Monday as a personal favor to Marlin, he is signing a match between Killer Khan and “Macho Man” Randy Savage for this Monday night at the Mid South Coliseum! Tom Renesto is out and he is clearly not pleased with Eddie Marlin’s decision. Renesto would like to know who gave Marlin the authority to sign matches without consulting him? Marlin replies that just like Tom always says, he DOES NOT work for Tom Renesto! Eddie Marlin smiles as he walks off, while Renesto shakes his head angrily. Renesto tells Dave Brown that people like Randy Savage, Lanny Poffo and Eddie Marlin don’t know how to do business and he is getting just about sick and tired of having to clean up their messes!
*Terry Taylor and the Southern Tag Team Champions “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant and “Wildfire” Tommy Rich are out to ‘The Boy from New York City’ as they shake hands with the fans around ringside. Jimmy Valiant shouts that he is ready for a good old fashioned New York City street war with the First Family and their little weasel of a manager Jimmy Hart! Tommy Rich is “all faaaaared up” as well as he says that himself, Valiant and Taylor have scores to settle with Jimmy Hart and his goons. Terry Taylor cannot wait to get Big Bubba Rogers back into the ring in a six-man tag team match this Monday and prove to him that the bigger you are, the harder you fall. Big Bubba is going to get cut down to size starting this Monday night at the Mid South Coliseum, according to Taylor.
*Southern Heavyweight Champion Dutch Mantell is out to discuss his scheduled title shot against NWA Champion Ric Flair on July 21 at the Mid South Coliseum. Mantell talks about being put through his paces with recent matches against international challengers like the Dynamite Kid and rising stars like Koko B. Ware. Mantell has another tough match this Monday against the Masked Superstar. Dutch calls the Masked Supestar one of the top 10 wrestlers in the world and he thinks that beating him will be as big of an accomplishment as beating Ric Flair. Tom Renesto makes his way out now and congratulates Mantell on his recent wins. He is looking forward to the bout between the Southern Champion and NWA World Champion Ric Flair. However, Renesto wants Mantell to be ready so if he survives the Masked Superstar this week, Tom has one more major challenge for Mantell to be sure that The Dutchman is in top form for his bout with Flair. Mantell tells Renesto that he has never backed away from a fight and he won’t start doing so now!
MATCHES:
1) Koko B. Ware (w/ Jimmy Hart) pinned Tarantula at 6:11 when he came off the second rope with a flying dropkick.
2) Killer Khan (w/ Scandor Akbar) defeated Spider at 2:15 by forcing him to submit to the dreaded nervehold.
3) Terry Taylor pinned Mark “Rollerbal” Rocco at 8:34 when he connected with the flying forearm smash known as the Five Arm.
4) Southern Heavyweight Champion Dutch Mantell pinned Phil Hickerson at 12:04 when he connected with the hangman’s neck-breaker.
