THE WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION PRESENTS
SATURDAY, JUNE 21, 1985
TAPED JUNE 12 AT THE CENTRUM IN WORCESTER, MA
GORILLA MONSOON, JESSE “THE BODY” VENTURA and VINCE MCMAHON are ringside to open the show, and they welcome us to another episode of WWF SUPERSTARS OF WRESTLING!
This week, we’ll see the likes of the Killer Bees, King Kong Bundy, Bruno Sammartino, the Dream Team and the Fabulous Rougeau brothers in action!
Roddy Piper will have Hillbilly Jim and Uncle Elmer as his guests this week on Piper’s Pit!
Plus, a 6-man tag team main event, as “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka teams up with the Junkyard Dog and George “the Animal” Steele to take on the Islanders and their manager Mr. Fuji!
THE KILLER BEES (Jim Brunzell & B. Brian Blair) defeat GEORGE SOUTH & ROCKY DELLA SERRA. The Killer Bees continue their impressive run here in the World Wrestling Federation. Blair gets the win for his team, after connecting with a flying bodypress on South for the pinfall.
On commentary, Vince and Gorilla put the Bees over as one of the top teams in wrestling today, and even Jesse grudgingly agrees.
VINCE sends us to MEAN GENE OKERLUND for a special WWF UPDATE.
OKERLUND says that this week, the WWF Update will focus on a new tag team that has just arrived in the area, known as the HART FOUNDATION, Bret Hart and Jim “the Anvil” Neidhart!
Footage is shown of Bret and Neidhart as a team, wrestling a match in Stampede Wrestling.
GENE says that Bret is the son of legendary wrestler-turned-promoter Stu Hart, and was trained by his father in Calgary. Gene then talks about Neidhart, saying that he gained the nickname the anvil by winning the anvil toss event at the Calgary Stampede three years in a row! He says that Neidhart also played pro football, for the Dallas Cowboys, before deciding that the world of professional wrestling is where he really wanted to be.
Footage is shown of Neidhart playing for the Dallas Cowboys in a pre-season game.
GENE says that the two men complement each other perfectly, Neidhart wrestles a power-based style, and likes to brawl, while Hart is a mat technician, who doesn’t mind taking to the air.
We see pre-recorded comments from THE HART FOUNDATION, who say that they can’t wait to get right into the thick of things in the WWF!
VINCE, JESSE and GORILLA discuss the attack on Andre the Giant that happened a few weeks ago.
A graphic then appears on the screen, with the address where fans can send cards to Andre and show their support.
An ad airs, hyping the WWF action figures, available wherever toys are sold.
HANDICAP MATCH:
KING KONG BUNDY (w/ Classy Freddie Blassie) beats REGGIE PARKS & ATI TAGO. Even in a 2-on-1 setting, Parks and Tago stand no chance against Bundy. They try attacking him at the same time, but the big man from Atlantic City just shrugs off their attack, and knocks both men to the mat. A moment later, Bundy whips Parks into the corner, then whips Tago in as well. With both opponents in the corner, Bundy delivers the Avalanche on both men at the same time! That’s all she wrote, as Bundy gets the pin by placing a boot on the chest of Parks.
After the 3-count, Bundy demands that the ref keep counting to 5, which he quickly does.
As Bundy gets his arm raised in victory, BLASSIE gets on the house mic and cuts a promo, saying that Andre the Giant’s career is over, and if those two hillbillies, Jim and Elmer, keep running their mouths, Bundy and Studd may just end their careers as well!
BRUNO SAMMARTINO beats DAVE BARBIE. Bruno Sammartino, the living legend, makes his way to the ring to a thunderous ovation! Barbie tries to attack Sammartino from behind before the bell, but Bruno moves out of the way, then stuns Barbie with several lefts and rights. The match ends soon after, as Bruno locks his opponent in a Bearhug for the submission victory.
On commentary, Vince says that Bruno’s still got it, he still looks great in the ring, and everywhere he goes, the fans adore him!
JESSE says that Bruno’s just a washed-up old man, trying to relive his past glory.
GORILLA thinks that Jesse’s jealous, because Bruno is still wrestling, and winning matches, while Ventura is retired from in-ring competition.
MEAN GENE OKERLUND is standing in front of a WWF banner. He hypes upcoming events, with fans seeing localized promos for their particular market.
GENE then talks about a big show coming up on July 8. The WWF will be in Foxborough, Massachussetts for a big outdoor show at Sullivan stadium, the home of the NFL’s New England Patriots!
This show, which the WWF is calling the “King of the Ring”, will feature 16 of the top superstars in the WWF, squaring off in a tournament to determine the true king of the ring! The participants for the tournament will be announced in the coming weeks, but Gene says that he can confirm that Superfly Jimmy Snuka, the Junkyard Dog and WWF IC champion Don Muraco will be involved!
Plus, two non-tournament matches have been signed. The first is a special attraction, with Bruno Sammartino squaring off against Eddie Andelmann, a local sportscaster. Fans in the Massachussetts markets then see a promo from Andelmann, saying that Bruno Sammartino may be a living legend, but Eddie thinks he can take him!
Gene then talks about the HUGE main event that has been signed for the show, a WWF title match between Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper . . . inside a 15 foot high STEEL CAGE!
THE DREAM TEAM (Dino Bravo & Brutus Beefcake) (w/ Johnny V) defeat NICK DECARLO & BOB MARCUS. The Dream Team is on top form here, as they quickly wear down DeCarlo and Marcus, with Brutus getting the win after hitting Marcus with the flying kneelift.
As his team gets their hands raised, JOHNNY V takes the house mic and cuts a promo, saying that Dino and Brutus have been given a shot at the Can-Am Express and the WWF Tag Team titles Monday night at MSG, and says that the next time these fans see them, they’ll be wearing the tag team belts!
VINCE, GORILLA and JESSE send us to “ROWDY” RODDY PIPER, for another edition of PIPER’S PIT.
PIPER hypes his Cage match coming up with Hogan on July 8 at the outdoor show in Foxborough, MA, and says that not only will he beat Hogan for the title, but he’ll grind the Hulkster’s face into the steel, and leave him disfigured!
PIPER then introduces this week’s guests, HILLBILLY JIM and UNCLE ELMER.
When the two men walk out, Piper holds his nose, and says that he’s glad the fans watching at home on TV can’t smell what he’s smelling now, because it would be enough to make them vomit!
PIPER mocks the hillbillies, and says that they must have a death wish, asking for a match against Bundy and Studd, after what happened to Andre the Giant.
JIM says that he and Elmer can beat Studd and Bundy, and they’ll get revenge for their buddy, Andre.
PIPER says that they’re even dumber than they look, which is really saying something, and says that he can’t wait to watch Studd and Bundy squash them into nothing but grease spots on the mat!
RODDY then says that he can’t stand the smell anymore, and demands that somebody hose the hillbillies down, or force them to take a shower or something. Piper then walks off the set.
THE FABULOUS ROUGEAU BROTHERS (Armand & Raymond) defeat MARK RAGIN & SALVATORE BELLOMO. The Rougeaus get the win when Raymond forces Ragin to submit to a Boston crab.
An ad airs, hyping the upcoming WWF cartoon, which will air Saturday mornings this Fall on CBS . . .
MEAN GENE OKERLUND is standing backstage with WWF World champion HULK HOGAN and “SUPERFLY” JIMMY SNUKA.
GENE says that this Monday night at Madison Square Garden, Hogan and Snuka will take on Roddy Piper and Intercontinental champ Don Muraco in a tag team match.
HOGAN says that Piper has been running his mouth since he got to the World Wrestling Federation, he’s said a lot of things about him, and about Snuka. Hogan says that Monday night, it’s time they shut Piper up once and for all!
SNUKA says that Piper will pay dearly for attacking him recently on Piper’s Pit, and then says that he’s also setting his sights on Muraco’s Intercontinental title!
“SUPERFLY” JIMMY SNUKA & THE JUNKYARD DOG & GEORGE “THE ANIMAL” STEELE (w/ Capt. Lou Albano) defeat THE ISLANDERS & MR. FUJI. The roof nearly comes off the Centrum as Snuka, JYD and Steele make their way to the ring, to JYD’s theme song. The match is an exciting, hard-hitting affair that sees the Islanders and Fuji use every dirty trick in the book to try and gain the advantage, but in the end, the Junkyard Dog gets the win for his team, hitting Haku with a powerslam for the 1, 2, 3!
VINCE, JESSE and GORILLA then wrap things up, and Vince hypes next week’s show, which will see King Kong Bundy versus Hillbilly Jim in the main event.
