THE WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION PRESENTS
SATURDAY, JUNE 14, 1985
TAPED JUNE 12 AT THE CENTRUM IN WORCESTER, MA
GORILLA MONSOON, JESSE “THE BODY” VENTURA and VINCE MCMAHON are ringside to open the show, and they welcome us to another episode of WWF SUPERSTARS OF WRESTLING!
This week, we’ll see the likes of B. Brian Blair, the Rougeau Brothers, Dino Bravo and Brutus Beefcake in action!
Plus, Bret Hart, a young wrestler from Calgary, makes his WWF debut.
Mean Gene Okerlund will visit the 8th Wonder of the World, Andre the Giant, at his home to discuss the broken leg that Andre sustained at the hands of King Kong Bundy and Big John Studd.
And, Jimmy Snuka squares off with Roddy Piper in the main event! This match came about after Piper assaulted Snuka and repeatedly whipped the Superfly with his belt a few weeks ago during a Piper’s Pit segment.
BRET HART (w/ Jim Neidhart) beats DAVE BARBIE. Bret looks good in his debut, as he puts Barbie away with a Russian Legsweep.
On commentary, Vince puts Bret and Neidhart over, saying that they were both trained by Bret’s father, the legendary Stu Hart, and have teamed together for several years in Calgary’s Stampede wrestling promotion. Gorilla thinks Bret and Neidhart have a bright future here in the World Wrestling Federation.
VINCE sends us to MEAN GENE OKERLUND for a special WWF UPDATE.
OKERLUND is in the home of Andre the Giant. Gene sits in a chair, facing the Giant, who’s got his leg in a cast, and crutches leaning against the side of his chair.
GENE thanks the Giant for welcoming him into his home, and then talks a little about what happened two weeks ago on Superstars of Wrestling.
VTR: Two weeks ago on Superstars of Wrestling:
Bundy and Mosca then leave the ring and attack Andre. Studd, Bundy and Mosca triple-team Andre, and throw him back into the ring.
At the broadcast table, GORILLA MONSOON decides that he’s seen enough of this, and charges ringside, brawling with Angelo Mosca! Mosca and Monsoon brawl down the aisle and to the back.
Meanwhile, with Uncle Elmer down and out in the ring, and Hillbilly Jim on the floor outside the ring, Studd and Bundy continue to work over Andre the Giant. Bundy whips Andre into the corner, and delivers the Avalanche.
Then, as Studd holds Andre’s leg, Bundy delivers a splash off the ropes, onto Andre’s leg! The Giant howls in pain as Bundy delivers a second splash!!!
While that’s going on, Uncle Elmer has rolled out of the ring, to the floor, and he and Hillbilly Jim are starting to shake off the cobwebs. When they realize what’s going on inside the ring, Jim and Elmer each grab a chair, and chase Bundy and Studd from the ring.
Jim and Elmer try to help Andre up, but it’s obvious that the Giant can’t put any weight on his leg.
OKERLUND says that it was a cowardly attack.
ANDRE says that Bundy and Studd tried to end his career, but they failed! He’ll come back, and when he does, he will make Bundy and Studd pay dearly for injuring him!
GENE asks about the severity of the break in Andre’s leg, and if there’s a possible timetable for his return.
ANDRE says that his doctors tell him it wasn’t as bad a break as it could have been, but all he knows is that he’ll be out for at least a couple of months.
Andre then thanks the WWF fans for all the cards that he’s received, wishing him a speedy recovery, and says that the fans are what keeps him going.
Back at the broadcast table, VINCE, JESSE and GORILLA discuss the attack on Andre.
A graphic then appears on the screen, with the address where fans can send cards to Andre and show their support.
An ad airs, hyping the WWF action figures, available wherever toys are sold.
B. BRIAN BLAIR (w/ Jim Brunzell) beats GEORGE SOUTH. South gets some offence in, but Blair gets the win when he connects with a bodypress from the top rope for the 1, 2, 3.
VINCE says that recently, George “the Animal” Steele visited a local zoo, and brought a camera crew along to film it.
VENTURA says that the zoo is the perfect place for Steele, and says that they should have locked him up and kept him there!
MEAN GENE OKERLUND is standing backstage, and he’s joined by CLASSY FREDDIE BLASSIE, KING KONG BUNDY, BIG JOHN STUDD and ANGELO MOSCA.
OKERLUND talks about the injury to Andre the Giant, at the hands of Bundy and Studd.
BUNDY says that they saw the video of Gene at Andre’s house, and says that Andre is crying the blues because Bundy and Studd broke that scrawny chicken leg of his.
STUDD says that he told everyone he was the true giant of professional wrestling, and now the people have no choice but to accept it, because Andre is FINISHED!
BLASSIE says that Andre can tell these fans that he’ll be back, but the truth is, he wants no part of Bundy and Studd.
GENE says that Hillbilly Jim and Uncle Elmer have stated that they will avenge the injury to their friend the Giant.
BLASSIE laughs, and says that those two pencil-necked geeks don’t stand a chance against his men!
ANGELO MOSCA then talks about the incident recently with Gorilla Monsoon, and says that Gorilla jumped him from behind two weeks ago, as he was just minding his own business.
GENE says that he doesn’t remember it quite like that.
MOSCA grabs Gene by the collar, and says that Gene better shut his mouth and let him talk, or Gene will be sucking his meals through a straw!
MOSCA says that Gorilla Monsoon is a washed up has-been, and then challenges Gorilla to face him in the ring!
THE FABULOUS ROUGEAU BROTHERS (Armand & Raymond) defeat NICK DECARLO & BOB MARCUS. The Rougeau brothers take turns working over Marcus, keeping him isolated in their corner of the ring. DeCarlo doesn’t even get a chance to tag in, as Raymond locks Marcus in a Boston crab for the submission.
Afterwards, the Rougeau brothers wave their miniature American flags, while taunting the fans who are booing them.
MEAN GENE OKERLUND is standing in front of a WWF banner. He hypes upcoming events, with fans seeing localized promos for their particular market.
GENE then talks about a big show coming up on July 8. The WWF will be in Foxborough, Massachussetts for a big outdoor show at Sullivan stadium, the home of the NFL’s New England Patriots!
This show, which the WWF is calling the “King of the Ring”, will feature 16 of the top superstars in the WWF, squaring off in a tournament to determine the true king of the ring! The participants for the tournament will be announced in the coming weeks, but Gene says that he can confirm that Superfly Jimmy Snuka, the Junkyard Dog and WWF IC champion Don Muraco will be involved!
Plus, a HUGE main event has been signed for the show as well, a WWF title match between Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper . . . inside a 15 foot high STEEL CAGE!
VINCE, GORILLA and JESSE send us to “ROWDY” RODDY PIPER, for another edition of PIPER’S PIT.
PIPER says that this week, he doesn’t have a guest, because he wants to take this time to talk about Hulk Hogan, the soon to be ex-champion of the WWF!
PIPER says that so far, every time he’s met Hogan in the ring, Hogan has found a way to cheat Piper out of the title. Hogan knows he can’t beat Piper, so he has to rely on disqualifications and count-outs to keep his title.
But, on July 8 at Sullivan stadium in Foxborough, that comes to an end, because he’s got Hogan inside a steel cage, and says that there are no disqualifications, and nowhere for Hogan to run! Now Hogan has no choice but to stay and fight, and that’s how Piper wants it!
PIPER says that he’s going to take Hogan’s title, he’s going to take Hogan’s movie career, and he’s going to leave Hogan with nothing, because that’s what the Hulkster is, NOTHING!
THE DREAM TEAM (Dino Bravo & Brutus Beefcake) (w/ Johnny V) defeat REGGIE PARKS & MIKE RAGIN. The Dream Team makes short work of their opponents, with Bravo using a bearhug to force Ragin to submit.
After the match, “Luscious” Johnny V grabs the house mic from Howard Finkel, and says that his men will be the next WWF Tag Team champions!
An ad airs, hyping the upcoming WWF cartoon, which will air Saturday mornings this Fall on CBS . . .
“SUPERFLY” JIMMY SNUKA beats “ROWDY” RODDY PIPER via DQ. As Piper makes his way to the ring, led by a small group of bagpipe players, Vince talks about the incident a couple of weeks ago on Piper’s Pit, where the Rowdy Scot assaulted Snuka and whipped him with a belt!
Snuka tears into Piper as soon as Hot Rod enters the ring. Snuka pulls Piper’s belt off, and starts choking Piper with it! The referee is finally able to get the belt away from Snuka, and Piper bails to the floor, which gives him a chance to remove his kilt and t-shirt.
Back inside, Snuka goes on the offensive again, but Piper responds with a poke to the eye, that stops Snuka dead in his tracks. Piper takes over, and slaps Snuka around, before knocking him to the mat and putting the boots to him.
Piper dominates the next few minutes, but Snuka eventually makes a comeback, and drops Piper with a series of headbutts.
With Piper flat on his back on the mat, Snuka heads to the top rope, and everyone in the building knows what’s coming next!
But here comes DON MURACO down to the ring! Muraco jumps up onto the ring apron, and shoves Snuka off the top rope!
The referee sees this, and calls for the bell, awarding the match to Snuka by disqualification.
Piper doesn’t care, he and Muraco gang up on Snuka, and stomp him into the mat!
HERE COMES HULK HOGAN!!!
Hogan hits the ring and tears into Piper with big right hands. With Piper dazed, Hogan turns his attention to Muraco, and pummels him.
Snuka gets back to his feet, and knocks Piper through the ropes with a jumping headbutt. Snuka then joins Hogan and they whip Muraco into the ropes, and connect with a double clothesline. Muraco rolls out of the ring, and he and Piper head for the locker room.
Hogan and Snuka pose in the ring for fans as Hogan’s “Real American” theme song plays.
VINCE, JESSE and GORILLA then wrap things up, and Vince hypes next week’s show.
