IRISH MCNEIL BOY’S CLUB
SHREVEPORT, LA
ANNOUNCERS: JIM ROSS & COWBOY BILL WATTS
RING ANNOUNCER: MIKE MCGUIRK
REFEREES: Alfred Neely, Jerry Usher, Joel Armstrong
Jim & Bill are at the desk.
ROSS: Welcome to a great hour of Mid South Wrestling! Today, Hacksaw Jim Duggan defends the TV Title against the Mantell Corporation’s big gun, Stan Hansen! North American Champion Freebird Michael Hayes wrestles the rugged Mike George in non-title action! Hayes’ Freebird brothers, Terry Gord & Buddy Roberts wrestle Tiger Conway, Jr. & Wendell Cooley! Magnum TA wrestles Japanese superstar Tenryu and “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas returns to face Mr. Onita! Cowboy Bill Watts, I understand we have some special guests in the Irish McNeil Boy’s Club this week.
WATTS: Jim, that’s true. NWA President Jim Crockett has sent three members of the NWA’s Championship Committee here to scout the great Mid South talent. These three gentlemen will report back to Mr. Crockett with a recommendation for Crockett as to World Champion Ric Flair’s challenger on July 6 at the Superdome Summer Spectacular!
As Watts speaks, the camera gets a shot of three men on the front row ringside. The three men wear blue blazers with the NWA insignia on the front. They are carrying legal pads and pens. They seem to be deep in an important conversation.
Magnum TA wrestles Japanese superstar Genichiro Tenryu in our opener. The NWA officials are conversing, gesturing, and making notes as this one gets underway. While the two grapplers are feeling each other out, KEVIN SULLIVAN appears at ringside! After Sullivan’s ominous words last week, of course, Magnum is distracted and Tenryu takes full advantage of the situation. Tenryu works TA over with his high powered offense and it looks like the Japanese wrestler will win, but, like so many times before, Magnum hits the belly to belly out of nowhere to get the win as the fans go wild! The NWA officials look very impressed!
Terry Gordy & Buddy Roberts take on Tiger Conway, Jr. & Wendell Cooley. Cooley & Conway look sharp this week, particularly Cooley and they really take the match to the Freebirds! In the end, Gordy hits a vicious powerbomb on Tiger and gets the 1-2-3!
ROSS: I understand that the Nature Boy, Buddy Landel has sent in a piece of videotape, Bill.
WATTS: That’s right, Jim. I think this will be of particular interest to Hacksaw Butch Reed and his recently arrived friend, Tony Atlas!
ROSS: Let’s roll that tape!
VTR:
Buddy Landel is standing in what appears to be a very expensively furnished den. He is dressed in a suit and holds a manila envelope in his hands.
LANDEL: Hey, people, it’s the greatest wrestler alive today! Last week, Butch Reed just couldn’t accept the fact that the Nature Boy gave him a wrestling lesson here on TV and made some threats toward me and my love, Missy Hyatt! Now, I’m a professional wrestler and I’m used to threats from musclebound goofs like Reed! That’s just part of the job! Missy Hyatt is a first class lady! Reed insinuated that he was bringing in Tony “Mr. USA” Atlas to do something about Missy being at ringside! Well, I have a real problem with that and so does Missy’s daddy! Missy’s daddy has more money than Mid South Wrestling, the Mantell Corporation,& Ford Motor Company put together! He took some of those megabucks and went to some of his associates in Chicago! He has paid for the services of an assassain, not just a professional wrestler, but the greatest street fighter in the world! (opens the envelope and pulls out a photo). Look at this, Butch Reed! Tony Atlas! Take a good look!
THE ONE MAN GANG!!!!!!!!!
You jerks had better be ready! This man is coming and he’s going to be doing whatever Missy and me tell him to do! Butch Reed, you like to brag about how you like Ghetto Street Fights! This man invented that kind of fighting down on Halstead Street! If Atlas & Reed even look at Missy sideways, this man will hurt you and hurt you bad!

Tony “Mr. USA” Atlas comes to the ring with Butch Reed by his side to wrestle Mr. Onita. Watts and Ross do a great job putting these two over as former AWA World Tag Team Champions and two of the most powerful men in wrestling today! The match itself sees Onita give his best effort, but Atlas is just too powerful! Tony finishes the Japanese grappler after a huge overhead press slam and splash. Once again, the NWA officials seem very impressed. After the bell, Atlas & Reed head over to the desk….
ROSS: I can’t tell you folks how happy I am to see Tony Atlas back in Mid South! Tony, great to see you, man!
ATLAS: Mid South Wrestling is where it’s at right now, Jim! My man Butch and I were World Tag Team Champions in the AWA, but it just wasn’t the same! The best competition and the best fans are right here! I’m excited about being here and having my friends like Butch, Jim Duggan, and Tiger Conway, Jr. around!
ROSS: Butch, you have had some issues with one Buddy Landel
REED: Landel, you and your bleached blonde girlfriend can bring in anybody you want! I’ve got Mr. USA here now! You talk about the ghetto street fight like it’s just some other wrestling match! It was a way of life for me, you punk! Any time you and the One Man Gang want to take on Tony and myself, you just bring it on, boys!

North American Champion Michael Hayes comes to the ring to the ring for a non-title match with the double tough Mike George. The leader of the Freebirds has his hands full with George this week and George scores several near falls. Buddy Roberts makes his way to ringside and smacks on the ring apron to try and rally Hayes! Roberts eventually gives a little more than verbal support when he reaches in and trips George! This turns the tide of the match and Hayes takes over! Hayes eventually hits the bulldog on George and scores the 1-2-3! Once again, the NWA officials are conferring and taking notes.

Now, it’s time for the Mid South TV Title match as Hacksaw Jim Duggan defends against Stan Hansen(w/Ken Mantell)! Hansen jumps on Duggan as he enters the ring and beats him all over the ring for the first few minutes! Hacksaw makes a big comeback and gives it right back to the man from Borger, Texas! Mantel looks very concerned by this shift in momentum and resorts to handing the bullrope into Hansen! Hansen blasts Duggan in the head with the cowbell and Alfred Neeley calls for the bell as he DQs Hansen! Hansen has busted Duggan open and beats him down as Mantell yells encouragement! Atlas and Reed run in and Hansen is pulled away by Mantell! Hansen seems reluctant to leave! Duggan wins and retains the TV Title, but he is left bloody and battered!
WATTS: I’m afraid that if these two don’t settle this issue soon, Jim Duggan might wind up in the hospital!
ROSS: Fans, thanks for staying with us! We have another great hour next week! Hacksaw Butch Reed will take on “Nature Boy” Buddy Landel! Tony atlas and Missy hyatt will be at ringside! The Zambuie Express will be here in tag team action! Stan Hansen will take on “Big Cat” Ernie Ladd! If he is able, after this week’s bloodbath, Hacksaw Jim Duggan will defend the TV Title against Mike Davis! Magnum TA will wrestle the Purple Haze in what should be a rugged contest!
WATTS: I’ll have some news about the Superdome Summer Spectacular! Hopefully, I’ll hear back from the NWA about who they have deemed as a worthy opponent for Ric Flair!
ROSS: Mid South Wrestling is the most action packed hour on television! If you miss a week, you miss a lot, so be sure to tune in next week!
