Wild West Wrestling
Saturday, May 3rd, 1985
Thomas & Mack Center, Las Vegas, NV
*non-televised house show
1)Tommy Wright pinned Armand Rougeau at 10:27 when he stacked Armand on his head and shoulders as he was on Wright's shoulders attempting a forward victory roll.
2)George Wells pinned 'Wildman' Jack Armstrong at 9:45 following a series of three big flying football tackles, in which he flung himself through the air and into the stunned 'Wildman'.
3)In a best of three falls match, Davey Boy Smith defeated Bret Hart two falls to one at 38:09 following the running power slam.
*Hart won the first fall with a sleeper hold after about fifteen minutes, but was very upset when the referee asked him to revive Davey Boy between falls. Bret initially refused to do so, but finally relented when a disqualification was threatened.
*Smith took the second fall by pinfall a few minutes later when Hart again locked in the sleeper, but Davey was crafty enough to use his feet to climb the corner buckles and push himself backwards with him rolling all of his body weight over on top of Bret's shoulders for the fall in spite of the fact that Hart had never released the hold.
*The final fall appeared to be Hart's when he pinned Smith in the corner with his feet on the ropes after yanking Davey to the canvas as he was standing in the corner reigning down on Bret with some big right hands. Just as the referee made the count of three he noticed the infraction and ordered that the match be restarted. This led to Hart throwing a tantrum in which he went as far as to even take a swing at the official. The referee ducked out of the way and when Hart's momentum swung him around Davey Boy was there waiting to scoop him up over his shoulder and hit the running power slam for the win.
As a result of a prematch decree by WWW representative Tito Montez, Smith earned a shot at the Wild West Heavyweight Championship on next month's card and Hart will not receive any future title matches for the next 90 days. Hart's meltdown continued after the loss with him again threatening the referee until other officials made their way out to the ring. Bret then got on the house mic and said that he 'would not be back' before stomping off to the locker room in a huff.
INTERMISSION
4) The Interns #1 & #2 (w/Tux Newman) won a 'tag team battle royal' that also featured the teams of Magnum Force: Dave Peterson & Scott Hall, The Breakdancers: Brickhouse Brown & 'Stylin' Mark Ragin, the team of Billy Anderson & Scott McGhee, the team of Jerry Oske & Johnny Wilhoit, the team of Rene Goulet & Duke Myers, and the huge masked duo of The Deathstars #1 & #2 at 12:10 when #2? eliminated Hall, who thought he was the winner after having been previously thrown the Intern out of the ring only to have the referee miss it because he was tied up with Newman and the two recently eliminated Deathstars. The previously eliminated Intern had hid under the ring after his elimination and resurfaced behind Hall just moments after Scott had tossed his partner over the top rope to seemingly win the match. The referees returned their attention to the ring just in time to see one of the Interns eliminate Hall from behind. Each team had to pay an entry fee of $500 for the event and if a wrestler was eliminated then his teammate still remained in the match, unlike some other tag team battle royals.
5) In a lumberjack match, Harley Race battled Jos LeDuc to a double count out at 11:17 when both fought their way through the various 'lumberjacks' and the brawl spilled over the guard railing and into the crowd! Both men fought up the arena stairs and into the breeze way before eventually disappearing from sight as several loud thuds continued to echo throughout the building. The referee didn't seem to know what to do since this is a very uncommon outcome for a 'lumberjack' match but he eventually settled on counting both men out as the wrestlers around ringside refused to go into the crowd to track both LeDuc and Race down.
6) Wild West Heavyweight Champion Jacques Rougeau pinned 'Cowboy' Scott Casey with a rolling reverse into a bridge at 18:08 to retain the title. This was another hard fought and competitive match that saw both men try their best to stay within the rules. Casey was able to get a near fall following a superplex and also did his best to avoid Rougeau's missile dropkick. The end came when Casey thought he had the bulldog headlock set up and even got Rougeau in a side headlock out of the corner and signaled for it, but it was all a clever ploy by the champion, who continued to run 'the Cowboy' into the corner hard and then pulled him back out towards the center of the ring with the rolling reverse and bridge to get the fall and retain the title. (Jacques' 7th Title Defense)
At the end of the night, WWW representative Tito Montez came out and announced that next month's card would feature Wild West Heavyweight Champion Jacques Rougeau defending against Davey Boy Smith, a tournament to crown the first ever WWW Tag Team Champions and, as a result of tonight's lumberjack match, a return bout between Jos LeDuc and Harley Race to be held within the confines of a STEEL CAGE!
*Bi-Monthly tapings for television replace the studio show with the cards alternating between Hobson's Riverside Casino in Reno, NV (similar to AWA's Nevada tapings) and Graham Central Station in Albuquerque, NM (set up similar to TASW at Gilley's).
