Friday, April 18th, 1985
The Convention Center, Tucson, AZ
*non-televised house show
1)Billy Anderson & Scott McGhee defeated Rene Goulet & Duke Myers at 13:10 when Anderson pinned Goulet by countering Rene's charge into the corner with a 'Brisco roll up'. This was a standard 'good guy' versus 'bad guy' tag team match to open the show. Both teams kept the action in the ring, but the match was well worked as all four men are veterans and both teams have had some time to get used to teaming with one another.
2)'Wildman' Jack Armstrong pinned Tommy Wright at 6:58 following a big running knee lift. The youngster Wright appears to have all of the 'right moves', but he's still not experienced enough to combat a veteran like Armstrong, who continues to be a 'gate keeper' here in Wild West. If you are new to the area and want to establish yourself here in the area 'the Wildman' is going to be one of the first 'steps' you take 'up the ladder' after you advance from preliminary competition.
3)Wild West Heavyweight Champion Jacques Rougeau pinned 'Cowboy' Scott Casey following missile dropkick at 17:50 to retain the title. Casey made a good accounting for himself in what was a mostly scientific match up with both men following the rules. Casey was able to get a near fall with a superplex during the contest, but Jacques was able to get a foot on the ropes. (Jacques' 3rd Title Defense)
INTERMISSION
4) The Interns #1 & #2 (w/Tux Newman) defeated The Breakdancers: Brickhouse Brown & 'Stylin' Mark Ragin at 16:14 when #2? pinned Brown after coming off the 2nd rope with Newman's walking cane while Brown had #1? covered. #2? then shoved #1 out of the ring thus snatching a victory out of the certain jaws of defeat. Ragin tried to plead his case to the referee but it fell on deaf ears as the ref didn't actually see it because he was trying to get Newman off of the ring apron.
5)Harley Race defeated Jos LeDuc by countout at 13:33 when LeDuc left the ringside area, a bloody mess at the hands of an enraged Race, who followed LeDuc from the ring after the decision and continued to batter LeDuc until Jos disappeared into the safety of the dressing room. There was a moment during the contest in which both men battled over LeDuc's ax handle but neither man was able to use it after LeDuc dropped it after a swift kick to the gut from Harley. It was an amazing site to see LeDuc back down from a fight. In fact, it may have been something that has never happened before.
6) Davey Boy Smith pinned Bret Hart at 22:04 following the running power slam. Tonight's 'main event' was another stellar contest featuring two of the best scientific wrestlers in the world today. Both men were evenly matched and know each other quite well, but Hart was able to control a good portion of the action through his willingness to bend and even break the rules. Both combatants seem to be learning from their previous bouts against one another as moves that ended previous contests between the two are now only resulting in two counts. This has really forced both men to go 'all out' in trying to gain the victory. Bret wowed the crowd with a suicide dive but he wasn't able to capitalize as both men had to struggle to beat the referee's count and get back into the ring. From there, Hart got a number of near falls but Smith was able to 'weather the storm' and capture Hart over his shoulder for the running power slam to pick up the fall and a hard earned victory.
