-We go now to Channel 5 Studios here in Memphis to Lance Russell and Dave Brown-
Lance Russell and Dave Brown welcome us to “Championship Wrestling ‘85” in the newly refurbished Channel 5 Studios. They are joined by Jerry “The King” Lawler to open the show, and this Monday night he will finally get his CWA Title match against Jake “The Snake” Roberts. They start off by mentioning that Dutch Mantell will on the shelf for a few weeks after his brutal match with Southern Heavyweight Champion One Man Gang. Lawler says The Dutchman will be back because he is as tough as they come, but he’s also heard that Mantell has a surprise in store for One Man Gang. However, this Monday it will be The Snake against The King one-on-one. Lawler mentions that he has been frustrated that it’s taken over a month to get this match signed. He is sure that some fans are feeling the same way.
The fact is that Jake “The Snake” Roberts fought this showdown with The King being made official every step of the way. Lance Russell asks Lawler why the match has finally been made official. The King says his win-loss record has been undeniable, and so Roberts ran out of legal maneuvering. This Monday night, the match will finally happen. Roberts has been the master of mind games thus far – he has done everything possible to avoid having to face consequences for his actions at Christmas. However, the time for stalling and mind games are over. Nothing will stop The King from not only beating The Snake, but also taking his championship gold.
1) Adrian Street (w/ Miss Linda) pinned Mike Boyette at 4:45 when he connected with a running bulldog.
The Exotic One and Miss Linda make their way over to the desk to discuss Street’s loss to The Masked Superstar last Monday. Adrian admits he was not at the top of his game, due to the attack on last week’s edition of Championship Wrestling ’85. However, he has taken the week to rest up and he’s “blood ready for a tangle” with the Superstar. Lance Russell announces that an odd match has been signed for this Monday – it will be One Man Gang and the Masked Superstar teaming up against the strange bedfellows of Adrian Street and Bill Dundee. Street seems confused by that, and says he never asked to team with “Bill bloody Dundee”.
This brings out “Superstar” Bill Dundee, who tells Lance that he is not happy teaming with Adrian Street either after all their battles in the past. Street and Dundee exchange insults for a few moments, before Dundee stops and says this isn’t doing anyone any good. The match is signed and they both have common enemies so they should put their feud aside for one week in order to get some much-deserved revenge. Street still doesn’t like the idea, but simply warns Dundee to stay out of his way this Monday and let him “sort” the Masked Superstar and One Man Gang. Street and Miss Linda walk off as a frustrated Bill Dundee stands by with Lance Russell.

Billy Joe Travis is out with Dave Brown to discuss his match with Kendell Windham this Monday night at the Mid South Coliseum. Travis talks about Windham running around bad-mouthing him for weeks now. Billy is fully aware of the Windham family legacy, but he says Kendell still has a ways ago before he can live up to the status of his brother Barry and father Blackjack Mulligan. Brown interjects and says that may be true, but stresses that Kendell is certainly a very capable wrestler. Travis agrees and says he expects a tough match this Monday, but he believes that he has what it takes to get his hand raised once again. Dave Brown hypes the match as Billy Joe Travis heads up to the ring for our next match.
2) Billy Joe Travis pinned Roy Lee Welch at 5:03 when he came off the second rope with a sunset flip to earn a victory over another veteran.
Jimmy Hart is out with Big Bubba Rogers and “Ravishing” Rick Rude. This Monday night, the First Family members will face “Wildfire” Tommy Rich and a mystery partner at the Mid South Coliseum. The Mouth of the South hypes that Rude scored a win over the former NWA World Heavyweight Champion last week, and so he is sure that nobody will actually agree to team up with Rich this Monday because they don’t want to face Rude and Big Bubba. Tommy Rich makes his way out into the studio now, and Lance Russell tells all of these men that he doesn’t want any trouble.
Tommy Rich tells Lance Russell that he can wait until Monday, but he is not going to let Jimmy Hart lie to the people. The only reason Rick Rude got his hand raised last Monday is because Big Bubba Rogers got himself involved. However, Tommy now has somebody to watch his back because this Monday night, one of his close personal friends will be back in Memphis to watch his back. Wildfire teases that this is a man who hates Jimmy Hart as much as he does. Tommy has a video to show and then asks the producers to run the video
“HANDSOME” JIMMY VALIANT IS COMING BACK TO CWA!!!!!
Jimmy Hat is freaking out in the studio, with Big Bubba Rogers and Rick Rude trying to calm him down! Lance Russell asks Tommy Rich if it’s true – is “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant coming back to CWA this Monday night? Rich answers that it is indeed true, Jimmy Valiant will be his mystery partner on Monday and he is determined to help him run the First Family out of Memphis for good. Rude and Big Bubba lead an exasperated Jimmy Hart away as Tommy Rich shakes hands with the fans seated around ringside.

Ricky Gibson is at the desk with Dave Brown after the break, to discuss the Rock n’ Roll Express being forced to leave CWA following a loss to Hotstuff International. Ricky is disappointed, but says his brother Robert Gibson and Ricky Morton hope to come back someday to avenge their loss. But Ricky Gibson is still here and he wants to challenge either Eddie Gilbert or Rick Steiner to face him right here, right now on Championship Wrestling. Southern Tag Team Champions Eddie Gilbert and Rick Steiner make their way out to the studio and they are both chuckling. Eddie says it’s just like Robert Gibson to send his big brother out to settle his business.
Eddie adds that he has beaten up the Gibsons and the Mortons more times than anyone can count over the last few years. Quite frankly, there is no challenge in it for him anymore. However, the Dog-Faced Gremlin is always ready for a fight so he will be happy to let Rick Steiner take Ricky Gibson apart right here on TV. Eddie Marlin makes his way out and says we have time for the match, so he will sanction it. The parties head up to the ring as Frank Morrell arrives.
3) Rick Steiner (w/ “Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert) pinned Ricky Gibson at 6:21 when he leveled him with a brutal clothesline.
Eddie Gilbert and Rick Steiner stomped on Ricky Gibson after the match and set him up for a Hot Shot, but out came The Nightmares! Danny Davis and Ken Wayne brawled with Eddie Gilbert and Rick Steiner, and ultimately cleared the ring of the Southern Tag Team Champions. Rick Steiner was in a frenzy and went to re-enter the fray, but Eddie Gilbert held him back and coaxed him back to the dressing room.
Danny Davis and Ken Wayne then helped Ricky Gibson out of the ring, and stopped by the desk to insist that they weren’t going to let Eddie Gilbert pull these kinds of stunts anymore! Lance Russell and Dave Brown hype a confrontation between The Nightmares and Hotstuff International, before sending us to our next commercial break.

The Devil’s Triangle are out with Lance Russell as we come back from our commercial break. Lance asks Jake about what The King said earlier – why did The Snake avoid signing for this title match? Roberts smiles and says The King has it all wrong. Lawler thinks this has all been about The Snake being afraid of him, but nothing could be further from the truth. The Snake says it’s actually much more simple than that – he doesn’t want to give Lawler what he wants. He knows The King has dreamed for months about getting Jake in the ring and taking the CWA Title. Jake says it’s his goal to make sure that doesn’t happen – because depriving these people and their King of his revenge brings him joy. However, this Monday, a match will happen. Roberts tells Lance it might seem like a setback, but it’s not.
The Snake knows that he is in Lawler’s head. He spent months at his side learning how Lawler thinks and he is exploiting his weaknesses now. He can guarantee – Jerry Lawler will not walk out of the Mid South Coliseum with the CWA Heavyweight Title this Monday night. Lance says only time will tell – but he will never count out The King. He then questions the Masked Superstar on why a wrestler of his calibre would join up with thugs like Jake The Snake and One Man Gang. Roberts smiles slyly at the comment, while One Man Gang bullies Lance for a moment.
The Masked Superstar says it is clear – he wants to get to the top of the mountain in professional wrestling and the Devil’s Triangle will help him do that. These two men aren’t his friends, but they have common business interests. It makes good sense to have to travel in numbers in a promotion like CWA where the rules are played fast and loose. And this Monday, they will use that fact to their benefit when they take down Adrian Street and Bill Dundee, who certainly is not a true Superstar. Masked Superstar says he himself is the true superstar of CWA and soon enough, Bill Dundee will come to recognize that fact.
4) The Masked Superstar and One Man Gang (w/ Jake Roberts) defeated David Oswald and Freezer Thompson at 5:01 when Msked Superstar forced David Oswald to submit to the Shininomaki (cobra hold).
The team of Stan Lane and Shawn Michaels – collectively known as Sweet Sensation – join Dave Brown for our final interview of the day. Last week, this duo were handed their first loss in CWA at the hands of The Bruise Brothers, who won under dubious circumstances. Stan Lane says Dave Brown is being kind with that description – Porkchop Cash and Troy Grahm cheated outright. Lane liked having an unblemished record here in CWA, and now that has been forever tarnished by the Bruise Brothers. There is a rematch this Monday, and both Shawn Michaels and himself are looking forward to taking out their frustration on Cash and Graham.
