Wild West Wrestling
Saturday, March 15, 1985
Hobson's Riverside Casino, Reno, NV
*non-televised house show
1)Jacques Rougeau pinned Jerry Oske at 13:19 following a missile dropkick from the second rope. This was a fast paced contest that saw Oske really use his power to his advantage with a couple of big military press slams after having sent Jacques into the ropes. In the end, Rougeau was just a little more skilled and was able to catch Oske with the move that, so far, nobody has been able to kick out of.
2) Death Star #2 (w/Tux Newman) pinned Johnny Wilhoit at 4:48 following a big splash from the top rope. DS2 proved to be both nimble and huge as he made the top rope splash look quite easy. In fact, the big masked man moves around the ring like someone half his size.
3) George Wells & 'The Breakdancers' – Brickhouse Brown & 'Stylin' Mark Ragin defeated 'Wildman' Jack Armstrong, Duke Myers & Rene Goulet at 10:00 when Wells pinned Armstrong following a big shoulder block off of the second rope. Following the contest, the Breakdancers attempted to get George to dance with them, but the former CFL footballer politely declined and stepped aside so Brickhouse and 'Stylin' Mark could do their thing.
INTERMISSION
4)'Magnum Force' – Dave Peterson & Scott Hall battled Billy Anderson & Scott McGhee to a 20:00 time limit draw. This was a back-and-forth contest that saw the previously undefeated youngsters give the veterans everything they wanted, only to have the more experienced veterans weather the storm and come back and force the youngsters to have to hold on for the draw. All four men shook hands after a hard fought contest.
5)Jos LeDuc pinned 'Cowboy' Scott Casey (sub. for Davey Boy Smith) at 15:39 when LeDuc pinned Casey in the corner with his feet on the ropes. Casey stepped in after Smith suffered a groin injury last night in Carson City and proved that he could go toe-to-toe with one of the toughest men in wrestling. Casey really took the fight to LeDuc and looked to have the win with the bulldog headlock, but Jos tossed 'the Cowboy' off as he attempted the move. Scott then battled back and was reigning down with punches in the corner as the crowd counted along when LeDuc grabbed his tights, pulled him to the canvas with the back of his head hitting the mat and then placed his feet on the middle ropes to make sure he got the fall.
6)Harley Race pinned Bret Hart at 27:18 following a diving headbutt from the top rope. This was another physical and intense match between the two men that saw Hart attempting to do what his rival Davey Boy Smith had done previously, pin the former 7 times World's Champion. Hart got a near fall with a super-plex at about the 17 minute mark, but Race was, somehow, about to get his foot on the rope. Hart was going for a second super-plex at the 27 minute mark when Harley caught Bret with a short headbutt as both men were perched on the top turnbuckle. This knocked Hart to the canvas below and a dazed Race followed up immediately with the falling headbutt from the top to capitalize on the situation and pick up the win. Both men remained laying on the canvas exhausted for several minutes after the match ended.
PROGRAMMING NOTE:
*It was announced that the following participants would be taking place in the tournament for the vacant WWW Heavyweight Title at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas coming up in April: Harley Race, Jos LeDuc, Bret Hart, Davey Boy Smith, 'Cowboy' Scott Casey, Jacques Rougeau, 'Wildman' Jack Armstrong & George Wells
