THE WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION PRESENTS
CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
SATURDAY, MARCH 1, 1985
TAPED FEBRUARY 11 AT THE MID-HUDSON CIVIC CENTER IN POUGHKEEPSIE, NY
VINCE MCMAHON and JESSE “THE BODY” VENTURA are ringside to open the show, and they welcome us to another edition of WWF CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING!
VINCE and JESSE run down what we’ll see on today’s show, including the feature match, where Brutus Beefcake will square off with Rocky Johnson!
Plus, we’ll see some big debuts, as King Kong Bundy, Bugsy McGraw and the Hillbilly Family will all be in action! We’ve also got big news regarding a big event coming to Madison Square Garden next Sunday night! And, “Pretty Boy” Floyd Creatchman will make his first appearance in the World Wrestling Federation when he joins Roddy Piper as the guest on Piper’s Pit! Plus, Intercontinental Champ Tito Santana will be in action!
BUGSY MCGRAW beats AJ PETRUZZI. McGraw may be a little “out there”, but there’s no denying he’s a charasmatic individual. He high-fives the ringside fans as he comes to the ring, and once inside the squared circle, he spreads his arms out, as though he thinks he’s an airplane, and runs around the ring! McGraw then dances a little bit to his theme music, before getting down to business. Petruzzi barely gets any offence in at all, as McGraw pounds him into the mat. McGraw whips Petruzzi into the ropes, and catches him with a thunderous powerslam for the pinfall at 2:01.
Afterwards, McGraw celebrates with some fans at ringside.
VINCE and JESSE talk about a big event coming up next Sunday night, March 9, at Madison Square Garden. The event, which is being referred to as “the War to Settle the Score”, will be broadcast LIVE at 9pm on MTV!
Five matches will take place on the show, including two big feature matches . . . World Women’s Champ Leilani Kai teams up with her mentor, the Fabulous Moolah, to face Wendi Richter and her friend Donna Christianello, and they’ll have Cyndi Lauper in their corner . . . and, the final match of the evening, a true “dream match”, Mr. T will step into the ring, as he teams with Hulk Hogan, and they’ll square off with “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and WWF World Champion Ted Dibiase!
At that point, Vince and Jesse are joined at ringside by “ROWDY” RODDY PIPER and WWF World Heavyweight Champion TED DIBIASE.
PIPER is ecstatic, he runs down Hogan and T, and says that Hogan won’t even make it to WrestleMania, after he and Dibiase get through with him! He then talks about Mr. T getting into the ring, saying T thinks he’s a tough guy, but he’s going to find out that this isn’t Hollywood, this is the real deal, and Piper’s going to make sure that T never wants to step foot in a ring again after next Sunday night!
DIBIASE agrees with Piper, saying this is the perfect opportunity for him and Hot Rod to kill two birds with one stone!
NON-TITLE MATCH:
TITO SANTANA beats MARIO VALENZUELA. Santana makes short work of his opponent, hitting the flying forearm off the ropes for the pinfall victory at the 3-minute mark.
MEAN GENE OKERLUND is backstage in the interview area, and he’s joined by HULK HOGAN and MR. T. Gene talks about what went down two weeks ago.
VTR: Two Weeks Ago on Championship Wrestling . . .
PIPER talks about the video we saw last week, of Hogan working out with Mr. T and Sylvester Stallone, and says that Hogan should just go back to Hollywood, as he’s obviously not tough enough to handle the competition in pro wrestling.
HOGAN grabs the mic from Piper, and says that he is a pro wrestler first and foremost, all the millions of Hulkamaniacs around the world know that, and they know that when the dust settles on March 31, it will be the Hulkster standing tall, as the World Wrestling Federation Champion!
PIPER laughs, and says that Hogan’s delusional if he thinks he can beat Ted Dibiase.
HOGAN gets in Piper’s face, threatening him . . .
TED DIBIASE RUSHES OUT AND BLINDSIDES HULK HOGAN!
Dibiase and Piper put the boots to Hogan, but the babyface locker room empties and a group of wrestlers, led by Rocky Johnson, Tito Santana and the Can-Am Express, come out and chase the heels off before helping Hogan to the back.
END VTR
HOGAN (wringing his hands in anticipation): “Let me tell ya something, Mean Gene. Me and T, we’ve been BEGGIN’ for this, brother! We’ve been training hard in the gym, pumpin’ the iron, we’ve been taking our vitamins and sayin’ our prayers, and on March 9, at Madison Square Garden, our prayers have been answered, brother! So Piper, Dibiase, whatchya gonna do when Hulk Hogan and Mr. T, the baddest dudes on the planet, run wild on YOU?”
We then see footage of Roddy Piper confronting Mr. T on the set of the “A-Team” and insulting him.
MR. T: “Gene, Roddy Piper’s done a lot of talkin’, he says I got no place here in the World Wrestling Federation. Well Piper, let’s see about that, you got nothin’ to do at WrestleMania, so how about you fight me, Piper? Let’s get in the ring, one on one, and let’s settle this! Gene, I pity the fool, he’s got no idea what’s comin’ for him and Dibiase at Madison Square Garden!
GENE says that we won’t want to miss out on the War to Settle the Score, on Sunday, March 9!
THE CAN-AM EXPRESS beat CHRIS COLT & GINO LOMBARDO. Zenk and Kroffat keep improving with each match. They wear Lombardo down quickly, keeping him isolated in their corner, and in the end Zenk puts Lombardo away with a crossbody from the top rope for the pinfall at 3:41.
VINCE and JESSE talk about a new tag team that’s on their way to the World Wrestling Federation, the French Legionnaires.
We see footage of Sgt. Dubois and Cpl. Poisson training, with the flag of France waving in the background. Frenchy Martin then walks into the picture and addresses the camera, saying he’s bringing the Legionnaires to the WWF, and they are setting their sights on the World Tag Team titles!
Dubois and Poisson join Martin, and all three end the video with “Vive la France!”
KING KONG BUNDY beats TONY GAREA. Bundy’s debut is an impressive one, as he overpowers Garea right from the opening bell. Bundy squashes Garea with the Avalanche for the pinfall. The referee counts to three, but Bundy demands a five-count!
MEAN GENE OKERLUND is in the control center for this week’s WRESTLEMANIA REPORT.
GENE says that we’re about 4 weeks away from the biggest event in the history of wrestling . . . WrestleMania! The event will take place on Monday night, March 31, and will be available on closed circuit at venues throughout the Northeast:
He then runs down the matches that have been signed so far:
* LEILANI KAI defends the World Women’s title against former Champion WENDI RICHTER, who will have Cyndi Lauper in her corner!
* BRUTUS BEEFCAKE will face DAVID SAMMARTINO, who will have his legendary father, Bruno Sammartino, in his corner!
* Top athletes from the World Wrestling Federation and from the National Football League will take part in a big 20-man Battle Royal!
* THE ISLANDERS will defend the WWF Tag Team titles against THE CAN-AM EXPRESS!
* TV star MR. T has challenged RODDY PIPER to a match!
* And the main event will see HULK HOGAN challenge WWF Champion TED DIBIASE for the title!
* Muhammed Ali, Liberace and New York Yankees manager Billy Martin will be involved in the main event!
We see short, pre-recorded promos from some of the wrestlers scheduled to take part in WrestleMania, including Hulk Hogan, WWF Champion Ted Dibiase, and Cyndi Lauper and Wendi Richter. We also hear from several of the wrestlers and NFL players that will take part in the 20-man Battle Royal.
VINCE and JESSE send us to “ROWDY” RODDY PIPER, for another edition of PIPER’S PIT.
PIPER takes a moment to insult Hulk Hogan and Mr. T, as well as Cyndi Lauper, saying that Wendi Richter is an idiot for listening to Lauper.
PIPER then brings out his guest this week, a newcomer to the WWF, “PRETTY BOY” FLOYD CREATCHMAN.
CREATCHMAN thanks Piper for having him on the show, and says that he’s different from the other managers in wrestling, he’s not a manager, he’s a Sports Agent, he represents athletes from a variety of sports, and he guides their careers. He says that he’s the world’s greatest sports agent, and he’s looking for clients here in the WWF, that he can take to the top of the wrestling world!
PIPER asks him if he’s got anyone particular in mind.
CREATCHMAN says there are a few wrestlers who have caught his eye, but he doesn’t want to say anything publicly, until he’s able to work out a deal with them.
PIPER thanks Creatchman for being on the show. The two men shake hands, and Creatchman says he can’t wait to watch Piper and Dibiase destroy Hogan and Mr. T next Sunday night at MSG!
UNCLE ELMER & COUSIN LUKE (w/ Cousin Junior) beat CHRIS MARKOFF & MR. X. The Hillbillies dominate the match, and Elmer puts Markoff down for the 3-count with a big splash off the ropes at 2:43.
ROCKY JOHNSON beats BRUTUS BEEFCAKE (w/ Johnny V). These two give the fans a good, competitive match that sees plenty of offence from both guys. Johnny V interjects himself late in the match, and trips the Soulman as he runs the ropes, and that gives Brutus the upper hand, but Rocky eventually battles back. In the end, Johnny V gets up on the apron, and distracts Johnson, but when Brutus charges at Rocky, the Soulman moves out of the way at the last second, and Brutus collides with Johnny V, knocking the manager off the apron and to the floor. From there, Johnson hits the stunned Brutus with the Soulman shuffle, three quick left-handed jabs, followed by a right-handed knockout punch! Brutus hits the mat like a sack of potatoes, and Johnson covers him for the 1, 2, 3!
VINCE and JESSE wrap up the show, and hype next week’s program, which will feature WWF Intercontinental Champ Tito Santana defending the title against the Spoiler in the main event!
VINCE and JESSE then remind the fans that next Sunday night, March 9, it’s “the War to Settle the Score” at Madison Square Gardens, and it will air live on MTV!
