THE WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION PRESENTS
CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 1985
TAPED FEBRUARY 11 AT THE MID-HUDSON CIVIC CENTER IN POUGHKEEPSIE, NY
VINCE MCMAHON and JESSE “THE BODY” VENTURA are ringside to open the show, and they welcome us to another edition of WWF CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING!
VINCE and JESSE run down what we’ll see on today’s show, including the feature match of WWF Ted Dibiase facing off against Ivan Putski in a non-title match!
Plus, Roddy Piper takes “Piper’s Pit” on the road, as he travels to Cyndi Lauper’s recording studio, looking for an apology from Lauper for her comments about Piper last week, as well as for Lauper’s friend Wendi Richter slapping Piper two weeks ago. Plus, the Can-Am Express, Tom Zenk and Phil Lafleur, will be in action. And, Hulk Hogan will discuss the attack he suffered last week, at the hands of Roddy Piper and WWF Champion Ted Dibiase.
THE CAN-AM EXPRESS (Tom Zenk & Phil Lafleur) defeat MR. X #1 & MR. X #2. The fans in attendance are solidly behind the young, clean-cut Can-Am Express. Zenk and Lafleur, both in their mid-20s, may lack the experience of seasoned veterans, but you wouldn’t know it by watching them in action. They work very well as a team, and the mix of high-flying wrestling from Zenk, and lightning-quick mat wrestling from Lafleur has endeared them to the WWF fans. Zenk gets the win for his team here, catching one of the masked men with a crossbody from the top rope for the pinfall.
Late in the match, Mr. Fuji comes out and watches the Express from ringside, but leaves just moments before the match ends.
World Women’s Champion LEILANI KAI (w/ the Fabulous Moolah) defeats SUSAN STARR. Kai makes short work of her opponent, pummeling Starr, and putting her away with a splash.
MEAN GENE OKERLUND is backstage in the interview area, and he’s joined by HULK HOGAN and MR. T. Gene talks about what went down last week.
VTR: Last Week on Championship Wrestling . . .
PIPER talks about the video we saw last week, of Hogan working out with Mr. T and Sylvester Stallone, and says that Hogan should just go back to Hollywood, as he’s obviously not tough enough to handle the competition in pro wrestling.
HOGAN grabs the mic from Piper, and says that he is a pro wrestler first and foremost, all the millions of Hulkamaniacs around the world know that, and they know that when the dust settles on March 31, it will be the Hulkster standing tall, as the World Wrestling Federation Champion!
PIPER laughs, and says that Hogan’s delusional if he thinks he can beat Ted Dibiase.
HOGAN gets in Piper’s face, threatening him . . .
TED DIBIASE RUSHES OUT AND BLINDSIDES HULK HOGAN!
Dibiase and Piper put the boots to Hogan, but the babyface locker room empties and a group of wrestlers, led by Rocky Johnson, Tito Santana and the Can-Am Express, come out and chase the heels off before helping Hogan to the back.
END VTR
HOGAN is livid, and he says that’s just like Ted Dibiase, trying to get an advantage before WrestleMania, because he knows that Hogan’s got his number!
MR. T talks about Roddy Piper, particularly Piper showing up on the set of “the A-Team” and getting in T’s face.
VTR: Piper on the set of the A-Team, confronting Mr. T
MR. T says that Piper’s got a big mouth, and says that if Piper’s got the guts, then T wants him in the ring!
HOGAN then talks about hosting “Saturday Night Live” on March 29, two days before WrestleMania, with Cyndi Lauper as the musical guest.
HULK then says that he’ll also be appearing on an upcoming episode of “the A-Team”, and that they have a clip for all the Hulkamaniacs watching at home.
DON MURACO (w/ Mr. Fuji) defeats AJ PETRUZZI. Muraco dominates the match, spending more time jawing with the fans who are calling him “beach bum” than actually wrestling Petruzzi. Muraco gets the pinfall after delivering the Hawaiian Hammer reverse piledriver.
BRUTUS BEEFCAKE (w/ Johnny V) defeats MARIO VALENZUELA. Brutus wears his opponent down, and locks Valenzuela in a Sleeperhold. Moments later, the lights go out for Valenzuela, and the referee awards the match to Brutus.
“ROWDY” RODDY PIPER is standing outside Cyndi Lauper’s recording studio. Piper says that, two weeks ago, on his show, Lauper disrespected him, and then her pal, Wendi Richter, physically assaulted him! Piper says that obviously he’s been hit way harder, and it’s not like it hurt or anything, but it’s the principle of it all, and now he’s here to get an apology from Lauper for her, and Richter’s, behaviour!
Piper walks into the studio. The producer tries to get him to leave, but Hot Rod nails him with a right hand, knocking him to the floor.
Piper walks over and demands that Lauper come out and talk to him. A moment later, Cyndi walks out of the booth where she was recording vocals for an upcoming album, and demands to know why Piper is barging into her studio.
Piper says that Lauper owes him an apology, for her comments last week, and for her friend Wendi Richter slapping him two weeks ago.
Lauper says she won’t apologize, and demands that Piper leave. When Hot Rod refuses to leave, security shows up and drags him away, with Piper yelling at Lauper that this isn’t over.
MEAN GENE OKERLUND is in the interview area, and he’s joined by THE HILLBILLY FAMILY: UNCLE ELMER, COUSIN JUNIOR and COUSIN LUKE.
ELMER talks about the competition that he, Luke and Junior are likely to face here in the World Wrestling Federation, and says that all these great fans are going to see what a couple of good ol’ country boys can do inside the squared circle.
THE ISLANDERS (w/ Mr. Fuji) defeat TONY GAREA & GINO LOMBARDO in a non-title match. Fuji’s Islanders make short work of Garea and Lombardo, keeping Lombardo in the ring for most of the match, cut off from his partner. The Islanders get the win when Konga drops Lombardo with a shoulderbreaker, then Haku leaps off the top rope with a big diving headbutt for the pinfall in just under 2 minutes.
MEAN GENE OKERLUND is in the control center for this week’s WRESTLEMANIA REPORT.
GENE says that we’re about 5 weeks away from the biggest event in the history of wrestling . . . WrestleMania! The event will take place on Monday night, March 31, and will be available on closed circuit at venues throughout the Northeast:
He then runs down the matches that have been signed so far:

* And the main event will see HULK HOGAN challenge WWF Champion TED DIBIASE for the title!

We see short, pre-recorded promos from some of the wrestlers scheduled to take part in WrestleMania, including Hulk Hogan, the Can-Am Express, WWF Champion Ted Dibiase, and Big John Studd, who says he will win the Battle Royal.
WWF World Champion TED DIBIASE defeats IVAN PUTSKI. Putski gives Dibiase a tough match, but in the end, the World Champion gets the pinfall victory following a Piledriver.
MEAN GENE OKERLUND is backstage with HULK HOGAN and MR. T.
HOGAN and T challenge Roddy Piper and Ted Dibiase to face them in a tag team match. Hogan doesn’t care when or where, he just wants WWF President Jack Tunney to sign the match!
VINCE and JESSE wrap up the show, and hype next week’s program, which will feature Brutus Beefcake against “Soulman” Rocky Johnson in the main event!
