Wild West Wrestling - Tag Team Extravaganza
Saturday, February 22, 1985
Veteran's Memorial Coliseum, Phoenix, AZ
*non-televised house show
1) Billy Anderson & Scott McGhee battled Rene Goulet & Duke Myers to a 20:00 time limit draw. This was an evenly contested match with each team having it's moments, but ultimately neither one was able to put the other away. No hand shake was made after the referee's decision and neither team acted as though anything had been settled. Goulet & Myers were pretty liberal when it came to following the rules in this contest.
2) The Samoan Savages: Super Sakila & The Great Kokina (w/King Curtis) defeated Mark Ragin & George Wells at 10:15 when Kokina pinned Ragin following a 'martial arts kick' to the throat. Curtis' new duo was a little 'rough around the edges', but really appear to be a couple of 'tough customers'. They showed that here with the victory over two more established wrestlers in Ragin and Wells.
3) Magnum Force: Dave Peterson & Scott Hall defeated The Interns #1 & #2 (w/Tux Newman) at 16:44 when Hall pinned #2? following a flying double shoulder tackle by both Force members after a Intern and Newman miscue allowed Peterson to clothesline one of the Interns out of the ring before making the hot tag to Hall, who came in and cleaned house. The Interns were able to cut off the ring and work over Peterson for a good portion of the match.
INTERMISSION
4) The Death Stars #1 & #2 (w/Tux Newman) defeated Jerry Oske & Johnny Wilhoit at 6:01 when #1 pinned Wilhoit following a 'Death Star Bomb' revese splash off of the 2nd rope. Newman's HUGE new team continued to deliver here in 'Wild West Wrestling' as they mauled and over powered two well put together youngsters in the likes of Oske & Wilhoit, who put up a spirited fight and had the big men reeling several times, but were never fully able to take them off of their feet to gain an advantage.
5) Harley Race defeated Jos LeDuc by disqualification at 10:17 when the referee threw the match out because LeDuc had attacked Race with his 'lumberjack ax handle', busted Race open and began choking him with the foreign object. LeDuc was a complete mad man here and it took several officials to pry him away from the battered Race, who won the battle, but hardly looked like the victor.
6) Bret Hart & Davey Boy Smith defeated Jacques & Armand Rougeau at 23:45 when Smith countered an Armand leap frog attempt by catching him in mid-air and turning it into a power slam to get the fall. Hart and Smith have had a friendly rivalry as of late, but there appeared to have been a bit of confusion at the end of their last meeting. Both men are very competitive and while they seemed to be getting along here, they also appeared to be trying to 'one up' each other at various points during the contest. These momentary 'lapses in judgement' almost caused both Smith and Hart to be pinned at various times during the match.
