-We go now to Channel 5 Studios here in Memphis to Lance Russell and Dave Brown-
Lance Russell and Dave Brown welcome us to “Championship Wrestling ‘85”. Lance and Dave spend a few minutes talking about the return of The King last week, and the announcement that Lawler and Dundee will reunite on March 3 to face the Devil’s Triangle at the Mid South Coliseum. Jerry Lawler is not here today because he is in intense physical training for his return to the ring, but we do have this special music video that documents the history of The King here in CWA over the years:
CWA Heavyweight Champion Jake “The Snake” Roberts is out at the desk after the VTR and clearly he is not happy. Lance goes to ask a question, but the normally calm, cool and collected Jake grabs the microphone away from him. Roberts says he came here today to look Jerry Lawler right in the eyes and slap the damn taste out of his mouth. All he has heard all week is that the great mastermind was outsmarted by The King. Jake says he gives Lawler credit – he pulled a hell of scam. He got a moral victory. But that’s all it is.
The fact remains that the DDT will have put Lawler on the shelf for two months by the time he gets back in the ring on March 3. What’s going to happen the next time that Lawler takes that DDT? Maybe he’ll be out six months next time, or maybe he will never come back at all. Regardless of what happens, the one thing we do know is that Jerry Lawler is a broken man. He might have paid some crooked doctor to let him back in the ring, but he’s not ready. So at the end of all of this, Jerry Lawler will prove that he truly is a damned fool.
Jake Roberts then mentions that he will put his CWA Heavyweight Title on the line on Monday night against “Superstar” Bill Dundee. The Snake says he is sick and tired of Dundee being like a gnat following him around. “Well gnat, meet your exterminator,” Roberts quipped. The Snake then challenged Lawler to come to the Mid South Coliseum this Monday to see just what kind of carnage he will unleash on Superstar Dundee. Jake then drops the microphone and makes his way up to the ring.
Match #1: CWA Heavyweight Champion Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. Tony Zane
The Snake scores the quick win over Tony Zane at 3:11 when he connected with the DDT... Jake Roberts was ruthless as he toyed with Zane, before finally connecting with the knee lift and the DDT. Zane had to be carried out of the ring after the match.
VTR: We get a final look at Rick Steiner before he signs his CWA contract next week here on Championship Wrestling '85. We see Jerry Jarrett and Eddie Marlin putting various enhancement talents in the ring with the so-called Dog-Faced Gremlin. Steiner is definitely challenged, but his brutal-looking clothesline is highlighted as being devastating. Steiner barks a bit as he connects with the move. The closing sees Jerry Jarrett and Eddie Marlin congratulating Steiner, as the phrase “Coming to CWA next week” flashes across the screen.
Kendell Windham is out with Dave Brown after the VTR. Brown talks about Windham being one of the most promising rookies in the sport. Kendell agrees, but adds that he doesn’t need Jerry Jarrett or Eddie Marlin to show him the ropes to break in here in the CWA. Brown says Kendell is being somewhat disingenuous, since his father is Blackjack Mulligan and his brother is Barry Windham. Kendell replies that wrestling is in his blood – his father and brother never had to show him anything. In fact, he fully believes he is on the road to being better than both of them! And he’s certainly better than some muscle-head from Michigan. Kendell walks off as Dave Brown sends us to break.

Jimmy Hart, Big Bubba Rogers and Southern Tag Team Champions Rick Rude and Adrian Adonis are out. The camera shows that Adrian’s knee is heavily bandaged, clearly as a result of the injury he suffered last week. Lance Russell mentions that this week, there will be a title rematch as Rude and Adonis put their belts on the line against the Rock n’ Roll Express. Jimmy Hart says as far he is concerned, after this Monday, the First Family will be done with Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson! Quite frankly, his clients are tired of having to beat them up each and every week.
Lance Russell questions whether Adrian Adonis is in the best condition to compete on Monday. Jimmy Hart says he advised his team to postpone this match, but Adrian has assured him that he will be in top condition this Monday night! Rick Rude the pipes up and says that Adrian will be ready on Monday, but it won’t really matter. Rude says he knows everything there is to known about the Rock n’ Roll Express at this point and that means Morton and Gibson will be down for the count this Monday night! Jimmy Hart cackles as he leads a hobbling Adonis and Rude up to the ring.
Match #2: Southern Tag Team Champions Rick Rude & Adrian Adonis vs. The Flash & Mike Boyette
Rick Rude scored the win over The Flash at 5:41 when he connected with the neck-breaker to get the pin... It is worth noting that Adrian Adonis was hobbling around the apron, while Rude wrestled the entire match himself.
Dutch Mantell is out with Dave Brown after the match to discuss his Taped Fist match on Monday night with the Dirty White Boy. Mantell says he has been dealing with the White Boy for quite a long time. This Monday night, a match is signed that will put an end to this thing one way or another. The Dutchman doesn’t sell the Dirty White Boy short – he is mean, nasty and ruthless inside that ring. But Dutch isn’t an angel himself and his goal on Monday night will be to knock Tony Anthony out!

“Wildfire” Tommy Rich and “Superstar” Bill Dundee are out after the break to talk with Lance Russell. Dundee will face Jake Roberts for the CWA Title this Monday night, while Rich gets a shot against Southern Champion One Man Gang. Rich talks about how dominant that One Man Gang has been since winning the Southern Title, but he is not unbeatable. Wildfire took the fight to him right here in the studio last week and at the Coliseum on Monday. He is all faaaaaarred up and ready for a hell of a brawl on Monday night. Tommy says he will be the giant slayer this Monday night and take the Southern Heavyweight Title.
Bill Dundee then talks about what Jake Roberts said out here earlier. First of all, it’s clear that The King has gotten into Roberts’ head. And that’s fine! The Superstar says he will take advantage of Jake Roberts being distracted when he beats him for the CWA Heavyweight Title this Monday night. However, Dundee has a big announcement - Jerry Lawler will take a break from his training to be in the Superstar’s corner this Monday night! Lance Russell and the crowd react enthusiastically to that statement as Bill Dundee heads up to the ring.
Match #3: “Superstar” Bill Dundee vs. Frankie Lancaster
The Superstar pinned Mike Boyette at 7:02 when he came off the second rope with the Bomb’s Away… Dundee looked really good in this match as he controlled the pace and managed to put away the very game competitor Frankie Lancaster.
The Rock n’ Roll Express are out to talk with Dave Brown after the match. Ricky Morton says he doesn’t like the First Family one bit, but he respects Adrian Adonis for not backing out of the rematch this Monday night. He has a snake like Hart telling him to postpone the match, but he has the guts to step into the ring. However, once the bell rings, that respect goes out the window because the Rock n’ Roll Express are determined to win the Southern Tag Team titles once again in front of all their fans at the Mid South Coliseum.

The Nitemares make their return to CWA to speak with Lance Russell. Ken Wayne says that a lot has changed since the last time that he and Danny Davis were here. First of all, they have ditched the pipsqueak Jimmy Hart as a manager and they don’t need to wear those stupid masks anymore. However, Danny Davis knows that he and Ken did some bad stuff the last time they were here in the CWA. They are looking forward to making things right and working their way back into contention for the Southern Tag Team Champions.
The Good Ole Boys make their way out now, and Tommy Gilbert once again complains about the Nitemares getting at this build-up for their return. Tommy says he is sick and tired of “pretty boys” like Davis and Wayne getting the superstar treatment from Eddie Marlin. Danny Davis steps up and says he and Ken Wayne may look stylish, but they’ve beaten the best before and they can certainly beat the Good Ole Boys. Hickerson and Gilbert get upset and challenge the Nitemares to meet them in the ring on Monday night. The Nitemares agree and there is a bit of a stand-off, before cooler heads prevail.
TV Main Event: Sweet Sensation vs. Frank Morrell & Roy Lee Welch
Stan Lane scored the win over Frank Morrel at 8:34 when he connected with the super kick... Shawn and Stan get a big win over two established veterans prior to their Street Fight on Monday night.
Sweet Sensation make their way over to the desk to discuss their Street Fight with the Moondogs. Stan tells Dave Brown that he and Shawn proved last week that the Moondogs can be beat, but those mangy mutts weren’t down for long. This Monday night, anything goes and Lane says he is more than willing to take advantage of that. They say every dog has his day, but this Monday night won’t be it for the Moondogs! For one night only, Stan and Shawn won’t be Sweet Sensation. They’ll be the Dog Catchers! Dave Brown chuckles at that and the sends us to our final commercial break.
