Match 4
FOR THE ALABAMA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
1 Fall 30 Minute Time Limit
Ref: Bobby Simmons
Professor Malenko’s ultimate solution and newly crowned champion, Checkmate was met with a stern test from the surging and exciting Tonga Kid. In a heckuva match that saw TK nearly take the title from Checkmate on several occasions, including having Checkmate down for more than a 3 count after the Savage Savate kick to the face, but the good Professor had the referee’s attention. Once again it was the loaded mask of Checkmate that proved to be the difference after he KO’d TK with a loaded headbutt @ 18’21

Match 5
1 Fall 30 Minute Time Limit
Ref: Mac Murray
The Lightning Express met Josef and Dean, the Amazing Malenko Brothers in a fast-paced, all-action tag team contest that got Boutwell Auditorium back into the groove following intermission. All 4 men strutted their stuff at different points, each scoring near falls. In contrast to the Alabama Heavyweight Championship match, Prof. Malenko was nullified by Scott Armstrong who came to ringside to prevent Boris from keeping the referee’s attention. This one broke down and was thrown out with all 4 men, Scott Armstrong and Checkmate battling it out on the floor at 18’22

Match 6
1 Fall 30 Minute Time Limit
Ref: Ron West
The South African Assassin Boomer Lynch and the New Zealand Militant Jacko Victory, the Legionnaires faced their stiffest test in Southeastern to date, Jerry Oates and Nelson Royal. Oates and Royal really displayed effective and classic tag team strategy but the ruffian style of the maulers took over the contest and the Bombs Away Knee Drop by Jacko off the second rope onto the chest of Nelson Royal was the coup de grat at 13’06

Semi-Final
FOR THE SOUTHEASTERN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
1 Fall 60 Minute Time Limit
Ref: Bobby Simmons
©The Midnight Rebels, Tom Prichard and Marty Jannetty
VS
The Tennessee Stud’s Perfection Connection, Arn Anderson and Jerry Stubbs
These four men have gotten to know one another intimately well in their battles around the territory since Christmas, and the fans here in Birmingham were treated to a fine tag team wrestling encounter. That is until things started getting out of hand, the Rebels tandem offense was out-lasting Simmons count of 5, Fuller or the illegal man consistently delaying the referee’s attentions. But both teams still had plenty tricks left up their sleeves. In a wild conclusion with all 4 men in the ring at once, Arn had Prichard in place for the dreaded Ghordbuster only for Jannetty to use Stubbs as a battering ram into the gut of Arn, Prichard crashes down on top, and with Jannetty and Stubbs still in the ring, and Fuller entering the ring in protest, Bobby Simmons made the 3 count and the Rebs picked up a hard fought, maybe controversial, victory at 31’44

MAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING
1 Fall with a 60 Minute Time Limit
Is for the SOUTHEASTERN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Ref: Mac Murray
If The Universal Heartthrob Austin Idol losses by DQ or COR then Jimmy Golden wins the title
(C)Austin Idol
VS
Jimmy Golden w/The Tennessee Stud Ron Fuller
This one did not have the finesse or classic strategy employed by their buddies previously in the tag title match, but had all the adrenaline that Boutwell Auditorium could withstand. With the crowd hanging on every move these two, long time nemesis went to battle. Golden’s game plan was to get Idol in DQ and COR situations and the Stud was more than happy to remind the ref of the rules when it was convenient for he or Golden to do so. What they weren’t ready for was the Boss’ keen awareness to such a plan. In a 9 and 7/8’s of a second brawl on the outside, the wily Austin Idol booted Golden off the apron, rolled in under the bottom rope and picked up a countout victory of his own at 16’43.
After the contest, a beside himself Stud called out Anderson and Stubbs, but before a 3 on 1 assault could happen, Boutwell erupted as Jannetty and Prichard made their way to the ring, and boy howdy what a 6 man war the fans were treated to for the next 10 minutes or so before Birmingham’s finest were finally able to corral Idol, Prichard, and Jannetty and the Stud was finally able to get Golden, Stubbs, and his enforcer back to the back as well.
