THE WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION PRESENTS
CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 1985
TAPED AT THE MID-HUDSON CIVIC CENTER IN POUGHKEEPSIE, NY
VINCE MCMAHON and JESSE “THE BODY” VENTURA are ringside to open the show, and they welcome us to another edition of WWF CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING!
VINCE and JESSE run down what we’ll see on today’s show, including two big main event calibre matches, the first of which will see Big John Studd make his WWF debut against former WWF Champion Pedro Morales, and the second will see Tito Santana defend the IC title against the Spoiler!
Plus, Don Muraco, Hulk Hogan and WWF Champion Ted Dibiase will be in singles action! We’ll also see highlights of a recent Tag Team title change, as the Islanders defeated the Fantastics for the belts, and a very special segment, as Roddy Piper hosts a special edition of “Piper’s Pit”, on the set of the TV series “THE A-TEAM”!
BIG JOHN STUDD (w/ Johnny V) defeats PEDRO MORALES. The show kicks off with a main event calibre match, as Big John Studd makes his WWF debut against a former WWF Champion in Pedro Morales. Pedro gives the big man all he can handle, but in the end, Studd gets the win at 5:11, forcing Morales to submit to a Backbreaker.
Afterwards, Johnny V takes the house mic and cuts a promo, calling Studd the true giant of pro wrestling, and a future WWF World Champion!
VINCE and JESSE talk about a recent WWF World Tag Team title switch, as Mr. Fuji’s new team of the Islanders defeated the Fantastics for the belts.
VTR: Footage is shown of the Islanders winning the titles. The match ends when Konga drops Bobby Fulton with a running powerslam, and Haku then jumps off the top rope and hits a diving headbutt on Fulton for the pinfall.
MEAN GENE OKERLUND is at the interview area, in front of a WWF banner, and he’s joined by MR. FUJI and the WWF Tag Team Champions THE ISLANDERS.
FUJI brags about the title win, and he doesn’t think that there is a team in the WWF that can take the belts from Haku and Konga.
DON MURACO (w/ Mr. Fuji) defeats ALAN DENNISON. Muraco mauls his opponent, and drops him on his head with the Tombstone piledriver. Before pinning Dennison, Muraco jaws with some fans at ringside, who have taken to calling him “Beach Bum”, then Muraco places a boot on Dennison’s chest for the pinfall at 2:40.
MEAN GENE OKERLUND is backstage in the interview area, along with WENDI RICHTER, CYNDI LAUPER and Lauper’s manager DAVID WOLFE.
RICHTER talks about Leilani Kai winning the World Women’s title recently in Japan, and says that she wants a rematch for the belt.
LAUPER thinks Richter can beat Kai, and says the fans are looking at the next Women’s Champion. Cyndi then talks about the Rock n’ Wrestling connection, and says that she’s happy to be a part of it.
WOLFE agrees with Lauper, and says that the WWF promoters are geniuses for working with MTV, as this will get the WWF even more mainstream exposure!
MEAN GENE says that on March 29, two days before WrestleMania, Cyndi Lauper will be the musical guest on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, and the host will be none other than the WWF’s own HULK HOGAN!
LAUPER says she can’t wait, and predicts that Hogan will beat Ted Dibiase at WrestleMania to regain the WWF title!
WWF WORLD CHAMPION TED DIBIASE defeats SD JONES. SD Jones is no slouch, but he’s just no match for the World Champion. Dibiase methodically takes SD apart, and puts him away with a Powerslam at 3:14.
HULK HOGAN defeats JEFF CRANEY. Craney gets in next to no offence, as Hogan completely dominates the mat, putting Craney away with the big boot and legdrop at 1:42.
VINCE and JESSE talk about RODDY PIPER, and his show, PIPER’S PIT. Vince says that Piper has been hosting the show for a couple of weeks now, and it seems to him that the whole point of the show is that it gives Piper a forum to insult the other wrestlers in the WWF.
JESSE, of course, takes Piper’s side, and says that Piper is just telling it like it is, and obviously Vince doesn’t like that.
VINCE says that it’s time for a very special edition of PIPER'S PIT, as Hot Rod will be on the set of the TV series “THE A-TEAM”, and will be talking with the stars of that show!
RODDY PIPER is walking around a Hollywood lot, as a scene of the A-Team finishes shooting. After the scene is finished, the actors take a break, and Piper walks over to MR. T!
PIPER says that the A-Team is small potatoes, compared to Piper’s Pit, and says that now everyone will know who Mr. T is. T reminds Piper that he’s also been in several movies, like the critically acclaimed Rocky III with Sylvester Stallone.
PIPER says that was the one with Hulk Hogan in it, which Mr. T says it was. Piper then insults Hogan, as well as Sylvester Stallone, saying Stallone thinks he’s tough, but he wouldn’t last five minutes in the ring with a real man like Rowdy Roddy Piper!
MR. T gets in Piper’s face, saying that both Hogan and Stallone are very good friends of his, and he’s not going to stand here and let Piper run them down.
PIPER laughs and challenges T to do something about it, and T grabs Hot Rod by the collar, and shoves him against the side of T’s trailer.
At that point, several security guards show up, and separate the two, then escort Piper off the set!
Back in the Mid-Hudson Civic Center, Vince and Jesse talk about what we just saw. Ventura says that Piper was only doing his job, conducting an interview, and Mr. T lost his cool and assaulted Hot Rod. Vince thinks Piper brought it on himself.
MAIN EVENT
FOR THE WWF INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP:
TITO SANTANA (Champ) defeats THE SPOILER by COUNT-OUT. The two men go tooth and nail, and eventually find themselves brawling on the floor. The Spoiler gets the upper hand on the Champion on the floor, and as the referee reaches the count of 9, the Spoiler tosses Santana back into the ring, however he doesn’t make it back in himself before the 10-count, and the referee awards the match by count-out to Santana!
Upset over the decision, the Spoiler knocks the referee out of the ring, then locks the groggy Santana in the Clawhold! The Spoiler keeps the hold on until several referees and other WWF officials hit the ring and pull the Spoiler off of Santana.
VINCE and JESSE talk about what we just saw, then wrap up the show, and hype next week’s show, which will see Cyndi Lauper and Wendi Richter as the guests on Piper’s Pit, and the main event will feature Hulk Hogan facing Brutus Beefcake.
