WWF RECAP JANUARY 1985:
WWF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SCENE:WWF Champ Ted Dibiase had escaped with the title in a rematch with former Champ Hulk Hogan in December 1984 at the Boston Garden. As January began, Dibiase went on television, and refused to give Hogan any more title matches, saying that Hogan would have to work his way back up the ladder. Throughout January, Dibiase defended the title against a variety of challengers, including another former Champion in Pedro Morales and a match against Intercontinental Champion Tito Santana at the mecca, Madison Square Gardens. But Dibiase’s toughest challenge in January was Dino Bravo. Bravo, a former Canadian Champion, gave Dibiase all he could handle in several matches, but Dibiase always managed to escape with the title. Meanwhile, Hulk Hogan went through every wrestler that was put in his way, in his quest to earn another shot at the WWF title. At the end of January, it was announced that the WWF would be holding an event of epic proportions on March 31 . . . the very first WRESTLEMANIA! WrestleMania would originate from Madison Square Gardens, and would be shown around the northeast on closed circuit. The first match announced for WrestleMania was a big one . . . a return match between Ted Dibiase and Hulk Hogan for the WWF title! WWF INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP SCENE:WWF IC Champion Tito Santana had a busy month in January, defending the title against challengers like “Playboy” Rip Rogers and the Spoiler. Tito also came very close to winning the WWF title in a match against World Champion Ted Dibiase at New York’s Madison Square Gardens! As January came to an end, a new challenger to Santana’s title emerged, the mysterious masked man, the Spoiler. The Spoiler made it clear on television that he would not rest until he was wearing the IC title, which he saw as the quickest way to move to the front of the line for a shot at the WWF title. WWF WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP SCENE:WWF Tag Team Champions the Fantastics finished up their feud with Rip Rogers and Chic Donovan, the Ravishing Bodies, beating the Bodies in decisive fashion all around the territory. However, at the end of January, the Fantastics were upended on television by Mr. Fuji’s Islanders, Haku and Konga! The Islanders won the titles in a 13-minute match on Championship Wrestling, when Konga planted Rogers with a powerslam, and Haku jumped off the top rope and hit a diving headbutt for the pinfall. Now, top tag teams from all around the country are lining up for a shot at the Islanders and the most prestigious tag titles in wrestling today. OTHER HAPPENINGS:Some new faces arrived in the WWF in the month of January, such as the Hillbilly Family, consisting of Uncle Elmer, Cousin Luke and Cousin Junior. But none of the new arrivals made as big an impact as the Rowdy Scot, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper! Piper started his interview segment Piper’s Pit, and used it to insult several of the wrestlers in the WWF. Manager Johnny V arrived on the scene in late-January, and immediately began scouting talent, saying he would find a wrestler, or group of wrestlers, to lead to the very top of the wrestling world. The Rock n’ Wrestling connection began in late-December 1984, as pop star Cyndi Lauper appeared on WWF Championship Wrestling, talking about being a WWF fan, and the fact that a couple of her videos have prominently featured WWF personalities. Lauper also talked about her friend, Wendi Richter, who has set her sights on Leilani Kai, who recently won the World Women’s title in Japan. Lauper said she would be in Richter’s corner as she challenged Kai for the Women’s title. As well, Jesse Ventura was invited to guest-host a show on MTV.

Nice to see Fuji managing the tag champs. Santana and The spoiler should be fun. Wrestlemania, with DiBiase and Hogan headling, should be fun. An, there is always Piper.

Oh man Chito, I'm just tickled pink about this bud. Hogan chasing the title heading to Mania might be the single coolest part of all of this. What better capper to the night. I love that there will be at least a nod of the cap to the Rock-n-Wrestling era with Cyndi playing a part, running through challengers for Richter with Lauper at her side can pop houses all through 85, considering Wendi wins at Mania. What I LOVE about it though is that we will get some great WRESTLING with our Rock here. Instead of Moolah stealing the title and time, you already have Sherri on roster, an all-in, FEUD OF THE YEAR, type rivalry between Sherri and Wendi will be good inside of the ring, Cyndi and MTV can make it an epic. Love Haku and Tonga as tag champs, especially under the Devious One, I can't wait to see what comes the tag division. I propose that we work in unison to get the Killer Bees to Chito in the draft . Tito is a great IC champ, I was never a big fan of the Spoiler, and the IC matches would go on last in a lot of places as it was the workers title, but he is big and menacing and a great hill to climb with a huge show on the horizon in a fed where babyface triumph was law. Lucious Johnny, the Hillbillies, Dino and Herc are still here, you have the talent. A lot of us 'purists' hate the WWF style, and what they actually gave us, that doesn't mean that they didn't have the horses for a different in-ring style if they wanted to go that route. I know Sean K. McMahon likes that style. There will be a little goofiness and some characters might have to be more sizzle than steak, but all of that is cool and fun, when the wrestling fucking matters. I can't wait to see you get hold of your favorite promotion and build us to your all time favorite period. I expect greatness Chito, no pressure Can't wait for Wrestlemania bud things are already looking awesome.

Hogan-Dibiase for the WWF Title at WM is gonna be phat hommie!!! I wonder who's gonna step up to the plate n take it to the Islanders at WM? The Hillbillies might be fun or maybe Dino Bravo could find a partner, Ivan Putski's a free agent he and Bravo would be a good WWF style team that could have a good ole brawl for WM I. Johnny V ain't everyone's cup o' tea but I dig him before I got Heenan in a trade I was gonna have him running against Big Dust. Gonna be fun to see who he brings on it. Really hyped to see your WWF hommie, bring it on!

I didn't see him mentioned here, is Muraco also with Fuji and the Islanders? I can see that being a fun six man team for some shows. Never been a Spoiler fan, but I liked when odd people got shots at the IC Title so this could be fun. Would like to see Muraco get some shots at the guy who took the IC Belt from him. The Rock N Wrestling Connection was such a big part of the 80's, looking forward to seeing you take on it. Like I said in email, this is such an amazing time to be in the WWF, Wrestlemania I coming up the first SNME coming in May if you chose to do it, things are just ready to explode and you got things lining up really well. Looking forward to what's coming next!

Muraco and the Islanders with Fuji?! OMG I'm gunna stroke out. There is Tito's Tormentor's right there. Now we definitely need to get the Killer Bee's to NY. Blair, Brunzell, and Tito vs. Muraco, Konga, and Tonga? Holy Effin Shit, that would tear the house down. Seriously, that Richter vs. Kai or Sherri, and Dibiase/Studd vs. Hogan and a Hillbilly, that is a 3 match sell-out across your territory. And we haven't even gotten Bravo or Herc onto the card. HTM and the Soulman are great pick ups for you. Mario suggestion of Ivan Putski isn't a bad one, I know I know, I didn't like his work by the mid-80's, but teaming up with Johnson, Tito, and/or Pedro Morales, looking intimidating on the apron and then taking a fall? He can look great doing that, lol. I am seriously pumped for your take on 1985 WWF, and I'm not blowing smoke up your ass or being cordial like how we all, always 'can't wait to see....' I seriously can't wait to read your plans here bro. Matter of fact, where the hell are my All-American, MSG, and Prism network shows? Chop chop Chito K.!

Hommie Ivan Putski wouldn't no great worker or nothin like that, but he was over tho. Put him wit the right partner, put them against the right peeps and he can have some good stuff on the card. I'd bring him in but Gordon Solie won't let me, sez he'll walk out cause Ivan might start singing melody of love again.
