Continental Wrestling Association Monday, February 3, 1985 Mid-South Coliseum, Memphis, TN *Lance Russell opened up the show by reminding fans that Jerry “The King” Lawler will make a monumental announcement on Championship Wrestling this Saturday morning. 1) Buck “Rock n’ Roll” Zumhofe defeated The Canadian Spoiler at 8:23 with a dropkick from the second rope. 2) ”Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert (w/ Jimmy Hart) fought Billy Joe Travis to a 15:00 time limit draw. Again, Gilbert was left stunned by the result. 3) Sweet Sensation: Stan Lane & Shawn Michaels fought The Moondogs: Spot & King to a double disqualification when all four men fought around the ringside area. 4) Dutch Mantell & The Mongolian Stomper (w/ Stomper Jr.) defeated The Dream Machine & The Dirty White Boy at 10:11 when Mantell connected with the shoulder-breaker on Dream Machine. The Dutchman then chased the Dirty White Boy to the dressing room after the match. INTERMISSION 5) The First Family: Adrian Adonis & Rick Rude (w/ Jimmy Hart & Big Bubba Rogers) defeated Southern Tag Team Champions The Rock n’ Roll Express: Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson at 15:34 when “Ravishing” Rick Rude connected with the Rude Awakening neck-breaker on Robert Gibson to score the pin. We have brand new champions! 6) CWA Heavyweight Champion Jake “The Snake” Roberts defeated ”Wildfire” Tommy Rich at 23:11 when The Snake connected the DDT. Rich was on a roll and had Roberts primed for the Thesz Press, but Adrian Street tripped up Rich from the outside. Tommy grabbed him and began drilling Street, but The Snake kneed him from behind and hit the DDT to steal the win. 7) Southern Heavyweight Champion One Man Gang (w/ Miss Linda) defeated Bill “Superstar” Dundee at 13:11 when Gang blocked a flying cross-body attempt into a running power-slam to score the win. Dundee might have lost, but he put up a heck of a fight against a much larger opponent.

Early on the card we get a TLD from Gilbert and this Travis kid, Billy Joe is really proving his worth, but it might end up costing the youngster in the long run, Eddie Gilbert is not a man to embarrass. The Sensations and Moondogs was a fun brawl, and I love Dutchy and the Stomper together, great tag match.
Unbelievable night of action turns into an epic card for the ages after intermission. Jimmy Hart and I told you all, that without the shenanigans the Rock n Roll Express would not be able to withstand the onslaught of Ravishing and Adorable. In all seriousness, this feud has been handled so well. I think these four would be customed made for one another. Adonis and Morton especially, I would love to see two singles matches next week and get an Adonis/Morton bout, I think it would be a classic.
Then we get Snake and Wildfire going 25 minutes, plenty of time to tell an amazing story, which was always Jake's strong suit anyway. That DDT is just the ultimate trump card. At any point in the match after any spots or beatings received, all the Snake has to do is hit that move and it's lights out. Adrian Street will have to pay the piper for his actions here tonight, you can count on that.
Outstanding night of action in Mempho bro. Great work. Peace Jeff

I called it, RNR never should have agreed to that match with Adonis and RUde having no time limit. It's going to be allot harder to regain the titles for RNR than it was to keep them, I think the First Family may have a nice long reign ahead of them. I did not see Gang getting a clean pin on Dundee coming, I agree with doing it I just didn't see it coming. The crowd must have gone home mighty hot with heels all walking out with wins in the final three matches, and with titles to boot!

Congrats to the new champs, the first of many accolades to come for 'em I am sure. Rich and the rest best learn you can't fight a Devil's Triangle member wit out some back up, cause you gonna be fightin all of em. Eddie Gilbert better start trainin or somethin cause gettin draw wit Billy Travis ain't gonna cut it.

It wasn't decisive but Sweet Sensation got a big win. When Gilbert does blow, Travis is in trouble. Nice comeback win by Stomper and The Dutchman. Rude and Adonis will hold that belt for a good while, as long as they have Hart in their corner. OMG meants a lot of things for Dundee here.
Mempho is rocking, my friend.

The heels really come out strong as Lawler's return approaches on Saturday's TV. Really well played from a timing stand point as he comes back when they seem to be dominating with all hope lost for fans in some ways. Gang pinning Dundee clean really cements it.
RnR Express dropping the belts is the most noteworthy thing here, and as it should be with weeks of build. The new champs seem to be riding high, but I could see ego eventually driving a wedge between Rude and Adonis as their eventual coming apart. You've got a lot of other tag teams here, but wouldn't mind seeing a couple of the bigger faces thrown together with Lawler's imminent return. Could get some extra mileage there by something like Rich & Dundee off looking at these results.
Might not have done a time limit draw back to back with a double DQ, but the draw was well done in furthering Gilbert's character development here. This feud is getting 2 results with Travis also getting some elevation and added credibility out of it. Interested to see where the eventual blow off comes as it could easily go both ways with the direction of the characters and it still leaves both in a good position. Gilbert getting redemption or having to eventually find himself after losing or something, both work.
Good to see Mantel pin Dream Machine and the feud with Anthony kept going. I have said a lot about these 2 already, so I look forward to the next play here.
Honestly, some of the best booking ANYWHERE right now is going on here in Memphis 1985, and I can't say enough about the quality of doing it without Lawler present. Looking forward to the next batch of shows and what the announcement is.
