Jim: “Last week a SOONER STATE RULES MATCH was ordered between Bob Backlund and Buddy Landell at WrestleBowl this weekend in Oklahoma City. Mr. Backlund seemed pleased since it will require wrestlers to adhere to college rules, and shortly we will Buddy Landell’s reaction. But first lets go to this footage of what has lead up to this match, and then we will join Joel Watts who is standing by with Mr. Landell!

BOB BACKLUND V BUDDY LANDELL
Buddy comes to the ring carrying some sort of a book, and then lays it on the ring announcers table, and enters the ring and shakes the hand of the ref and Backlund, the bell rings and we are underway and it seems like we have a good clean match between the young Landell and the former WWF champion. The camera pans to the book and it says “National Wresting Association Official Rules of Wresting “ on the cover . . . . . . . . . . . .. . Landell goes over to ringside table, opens his rule book, closes it, raises all ten fingers in the air, then throws Backlund back in the ring right before the ten count, then pulls his tights and puts his foot on the ropes as he covers Backlund and the ref refuses to count!
Roberts demands the time keeper give him his rulebook, and Roberts picks out a page and argues with the ref, pointing out some sort of rule in the book, but this all allows Backlund to recover, who schoolboys Landell, the ref throws the book to the side and counts as Backlund covers Landell:

LANDELL KICKS OUT, AND BACKLUND IS STILL GROGGY and cant capitalize, Landell rolls out and points to the ref the rule book is still in the ring, as the ref goes to pick it up and throw it to the ringside, LANDELL REACHES INTO HIS TIGHTS, AND PULLS OUT A FOREIGN OBJECT, AND NAILS BACKLUND WITH IT, PUTS IT IN HIS TIGHTS AND COVERS THE FORMER WWF CHAMPION!

BUDDY LANDELL DEFEATS BOB BACKLUND IN MOST CONTROVERSIAL FASHION AT 9:14 HERE IN TULSA!

BUDDY LANDELL v BOB BACKLUND
Landell walks down to the ring with his trusty rulebook and sets it on the timekeeper’s table . . . . . . . . . . . . at the 8:10 mark Landell and Backlund fly out of the ring, as the ref checks on Backlund, Landell takes his rule book, and slides it into the ring, Backlund catches up to him, and throws him in the ring, and this allows Landell to face plant Backlund right into the book right as he climbs into the ring! Landell covers Backlund as the ref stares back and forth at the book, the ref counts the three count, but then picks up the book and questions Landell on it. Landell take the book, and points to a page in it, and the ref shrugs his shoulders! Landell is awarded the match, and bails before a stunned Backlund can gather his senses and get revenge!

LANDELL!.

Backlund: “Joel Watts, this Buddy Landell comes to the ring with a rule book, then cheats me out of a win. Well, Buddy Landell, I WROTE THAT RULE BOOK! And to have an opportunity to share this money (pulls out a wad of bills) with THE PEOPLE, THE PEOPLE . . .

BUDDY TEARS APART THE PAPER BAG, AND COUNTS WHAT IS LEFT IN IT! HE TAKES THE MONEY ALL OVER THE FLOOR, TOO!
Buddy: “WHERE IS THE REST OF IT!!!!!
LANDELL KICKS BACKLUND IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD AND SLAPS HIM ACROSS THE BACK OF THE SKULL!
Joel: “No, Buddy, no!
WRESTLERS ENTER THE SCENE AND ESCORT A CRAZED LANDELL AWAY FROM THE FALLEN BACKLUND!
Buddy: “BACKLUND, WHERE'S THE REST OF MY MONEY! THE WAY I SEE IT YOU OWE ME! YOU OWE ME BACKLUND!

4. BUDDY LANDELL V BOB BACKLUND
Backlund enters the ring loaded for bear after the sneak attack by Landell on TV recently. Landell begs for mercy but there will be none as Backlund battles Landell tooth and nail, to the point that Landell takes his rulebook, AND RUNS TO THE DRESSING ROOM! Backlund wins by count out, but you can tell Battlin' Bob isn’t happy with the result, or Landell's cowardice!
WINNER, VIA COUNT OUT, BOB BACKLUND, 3:00
Joel Watts joins Buddy Landell backstage.
Joel asks Buddy about the Sooner State Rules match.
Buddy: “Well of course I think it’s completely ridiculous Joel, I mean I am a professional wrestler, and to me that means two men enter a squared circle with ropes around it, and battle each other by any means necessary to achieve a three count pinfall. Riding the other wrestler, out of bounds, points? I put that Mickey Mouse nonsense behind me when I graduated high school and turned down wrestling, football and track and field scholarships to train to be a professional, and that is what I am through and through. I beat Bob Backlund at the pro game, over and over and over again, and now he has somehow conned the Mid-South committee into ordering some ridiculous amateur rules match that clearly stacks the odds in his favor, and I don’t think it’s fair.
“That said, in addition to my NWA Rules of Wrestling, copyright 1930 rulebook, Joel Watts I have in my hand a 1983 copy of the NCAA Wrestling Rules Handbook, I have been studying it each night, and by the time comes Sunday night January 26 at Wrestle Bowl, Mr. Bobby Backlund you will be surprised to know that Buddy Landell has a trick or two up his sleeve when it's comes to amateur wrestling as well as professional wrestling, Bob Backlund, I predict I will embarrass and humiliate you at WestleBowl, and this so called Sooner State Style Match will backfire on YOU!

THE FREEBIRDS ENTER THE RING! FANS, AFTER WHAT WE SAW LAST WEEK WE KNOW THERE IS BAD BLOOD BETWEEN THE FREEBIRDS AND THE MANTELL CORPORATION! Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy and Buddy Roberts all surround ken Mantell and an incredulous Superstar, pointing fingers and jaw jacking with them . . . . HOLD ON!
Here comes . .ANGELO MOSCA AND KILLER KHAN, THE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS . . . . COWBOY BOB ORTON, JR . . .AND CYCLONE NEGRO! Don’t forget the Mantell Corporation has the Masked Superstar in there. The three Freebirdsare clearly outnumbered and surrounded! Joel Watts enters the ring with a mike as the Freebirds look around, and wonder if they made a mistake.
Ken Mantell: “WHOOOOA WHOOOOA WHOOOOA THERE, Michael Hayes! HAHAHAHA! Now, Michael Hayes, I don’t doubt that the Freebirds are tough and love to fight, but take a look around you son, you are outnumbered and OUTSIZED!
Michael: “Yeah, well Ken Mantell, we are sick and TIRED of being caught in yer mind games. Win, lose or draw, if it’s a fight you want, it’s a fight well give ya, man!
Ken: “WAIT WAIT WAIT!!!! Michael, allow me to stop everything here before it gets out of hand and offer an apology. Our business with the Junkyard Dog should never have involved the Freebirds. ORTON GRABS MANTELL BY THE JACKET AND GRABS HIM BY THE LAPELS!
Joel: “Bob Orton Jr, I think we’ve all had enough . . .
Orton: ”WHERE’S MY TITLE SHOT??? HWY DOES SUPERSTAR GET ONE AND I DON’T??? WHAT HAS HE DONE?
MOSCA, NEGRO, KHAN, AND SUPERSTAR STEP BACK IN AND PULL ORTON OFF MANTELL, AND PUSH HIM TOWARDS THE ROPES, AS SUPERSTAR GRABS THE MIKE AND GETS RIGHT IN ORTON’S GRILL!

It’s a wild affair as Terry Gordy bounces off Andre, and Ernie Ladd throws his tree trunk ham hands at Roberts! Multiple times both Gordy and Roberts go after the big men they end up on the balls of their ass! But Gordy cheats, and they have André in trouble with Ernie trying to make the H-H-H-OT TAG! Andre quickly recovers, and the Birds try to doubleteam him: NO! DOUBLE COCOANUTS, ANDRE THROWS ROBERTS INTO THE OPPOSITE ROPES: SIZE 18 BOOT INTO THE KISSER!
