SOUTHEASTERN CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING PRESENTS:
Sanctioned by the National Wrestling Alliance
Southeastern United States Representative for the NWA: the Honorable Lou Thesz
Taped 1/8/85 at the Houston County Farm Center in beautiful Dothan, AL
Airs in syndication throughout AL and MS the weekend of 1/11
Referees: Ron West, Mac Murray, and Bobby Simmons
Ring Announcer: Freddie Miller
And your hosts: Charlie Platt and Rick Stewart
welcome everyone to Southeast championship wrestling and before they could get any further Zeppelin’s “Kashmir” blasts and Arn Anderson and Jerry Stubbs make their way out to the desk. Mr. Perfect Jerry Stubbs says he caught the Christmas Show replay on TV, just like everyone else and he will be the first to admit that Marty Jannetty and Tommy Prichard are good, but they aren’t perfect. And that is exactly what Stubbs and Anderson are, Christmas Night was their first match back together in a year, the Midnight Rebel’s days at the top are numbered.
“that’s exactly right, and Charlie I want you to hold that microphone real still, I’m not out here to yell and I’m not out here to scream. Tom Prichard and Marty Jannetty have made their biggest mistake to date, I will tell you right now, a series of six-man tag team matches teaming with Austin Idol to take on the entire Stud Stable, it was a bad idea. Four out of the next seven days, Perfect, Jimmy, and myself have the punks we don’t like, wearing the belts we do like, inside the squared circle with no titles on the line.
“That means all bets are off. Regardless of how these six-man matches end the Stud Stable will accomplish what we set out to do. Charlie Platt, you ever had a three legged table? Of course you didn’t, because a three legged table ain’t good for nothing. That is exactly what’s going to happen to Austin Idol, Tom Prichard, and Marty Jannetty. Sunday night in Meridian, MS the target might be Idol’s neck. Monday night in Biloxi the target might be Prichard’s shoulder. Thursday night in Mobile it might be Jannetty’s neck. Then again we might just decide to get sadistic and prevent you from using your heads for anything besides a hat rack from now on.”
Match 1
Ref: Bobby Simmons
Arn Anderson, one-half of the Tennessee Stud’s Perfection Connection, goes one on one with El Rojo Capo, The Red Hood and puts on a wrestling clinic. Anderson spends plenty of time eye-balling the camera as he works on Rojo’s arm and shoulder, asking with the Rebels think of that. Instead of finishing his masked counterpart, Arn turns his attention to the man’s knee, emphasizing his point by yelling Prichard and Jannetty’s name out before every big move. Arn hits the Ghordbuster, his devastating front suplex, but pulls the man up just before the count of three with a smile. Anderson hits the Ghordbuster once again. Referee Bobby Simmons has seen enough and calls for the bell before Anderson even attempts the cover at 7’58.

Platt and Stewart welcome everyone back from break and are now joined by Scott Armstrong, Johnny Rich, and the Tonga Kid! TK says he is so frustrated he can’t see straight. Two months ago he had Mr. Wrestling II right where he wanted him and should have been the Southeastern Heavyweight Champion, but instead that opportunity was seized by someone else, and here lately, TK can’t get a fair chance at having a wrestling match with Jimmy Golden, and what happens? Jimmy Golden gets a series of matches with Austin Idol, Scott calms the situation a bit, patting TK on the shoulder and saying that Golden will get what’s coming and so will the Tonga Kid. Johnny agrees and says that great days are ahead and that he would like to introduce everyone to his cousin, a great wrestler who has decided to come home, DAVEY RICH!
Davey says it’s great to be in Alabama and that he and Johnny, the Party Patrol, are ready for some action. Davey says it’s great to be around Scott and TK as well, and that 1985 promises to be a big year indeed!
Match 2
Ref: Mac Murray
Johnny and Davey Rich, the Party Patrol took on the tag team in high demand across this great nation, Jimmy Backlund and ‘Ragin Bull’ Randy Barber! Backlund and Barber used some good team work in the early going, but the Rich Cousins got all fired up and turn the momentum around allowing Davey to catch Jimmy Backlund with a Lou Thesz press for the pinfall at 9’02

“Vell, vell, vell,” is how Professor Malenko begins his speech. Josef and Dean’s lifeless eyes tell as big a story as the Professor ever could, but that doesn’t stop him from trying. It is very “cute” how Alabama Champeon, Der Porker, Mr. Cash and his burrheaded minion, Mr. Brown vant revenge for fallen comrade, Mr. Austin, but veed this varning, you will end up victims. "Checkmate gentlemen, Check. Mate. Bwhahahaha."
Match 3
Ref: Ron West
The Amazing Malenko Brothers and their masked solution, Checkmate worked as a vell oiled machine as they took on former AAU National Wrestling Champion the Italian Stallion and his teammates, The Yellow Jacket, and The Drifter. The Stallion was able to hold his own a bit, and defend himself on occasion but the grappling mastery of Checkmate and the Malenko’s proved devastating, especially in the ring with Stallion’s masked compadres. Once Josef locked on the step-over toe-hold Facelock, the STF, on the Drifter that was all she wrote at a time of 8’08.
After the contest, Billy Joel’s “You May Be Right (Lunatic)” welcomes the Southeastern Heavyweight Champion AUSTIN IDOL to a massive reaction at the Farm Center! Ya know something Daddy, that Mr. Wrestling II gave the Boss all he could handle, and regardless of the tricks and pain perpetrated by II, Austin Idol learned some valuable lessons from him and respects the man for what he has meant to Professional Wrestling. That being said, some bums have been coming out here with the champ’s name on their lips talking about what’s going to happen to Austin Idol and the Midnight Rebels, well that is a helluva lot easier said than done. Anderson, Stubbs, and Golden are fine wrestlers and tough hombres, but the Boss will go to war with the Rebels and take his chances against anybody!
Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell” blasts across the PA system and the Farm Center erupts again as the Southeastern Tag Team Champions, Marty Jannetty and Tom Prichard, the Midnight Rebels join their partner at the desk. Prichard and Jannetty glad hand the champ and say what an honor it will be tagging with Idol, a rassler they both have a ton of respect for, and a man who has quickly become the perfect travelling companion for the Rebs. Jannetty says he and his partner’s story hasn’t changed since they arrived in the area, they have been tag team champions across this country and brought their talents to Southeastern, THE hotbed for tag team wrestling, to prove themselves to be the best tag team in the world. This is the place to do that, and you can’t do that by beating the Executioners or the Hoods, you have to beat the Nightmares, the Lightning Express, the Anderson and Stubbs’, the RAT Patrol, and the Malenko’s. The Rebels came here for a fight and won’t be paper champions. If Anderson and Stubbs’ were surprised to see the Rebels were willing to take them on in non-title six-man action and risk injury, well they will find out that Marty Jannetty and Tommy Prichard are chock full o’ surprises!

1 Fall w/TV Time Remaining

One half of the Southeastern Tag Team Champions, Marty Jannetty locks up with longtime Alabama veteran, cousin to the Fullers and Golden’s, and on-again/off-again partner in crime for the Stud Stable, Roy Lee Welch. They exchange grappling holds evenly for the majority of the bout, Jannetty usually ending up in an advantageous position, but the wily Welch uses the ropes, the referee, and his mouth to slow any momentum gained by Jannetty. Ring awareness is one thing that Welch has in spades and proves it by using the ropes for leverage and using the referee’s positioning to his advantage as he takes control of the contest. But the fighting spirit of Marty Jannetty rages from deep within as he battles back. Dropkicks, back body drops, and a running high knee changes the tide of battle and Jannetty fires the crowd up with his high octane babyface comeback. Jannetty ascends to the top rope and connects with a HUGE dropkick to put Roy Lee away at 13’13.
