STAMPEDE WRESTLING
SATURDAY, JANUARY 25, 1985
TAPED THE PREVIOUS NIGHT AT THE VICTORIA PAVILION IN CALGARY, ALBERTA
ED WHALEN opens the show at ringside and welcomes us to STAMPEDE WRESTLING!
The first match is already in progress as WHALEN runs down some of the matches we’ll see this week, including Jim Neidhart and Mr. Hito taking on the Kiwis, and David Schultz facing Bret Hart in a non-title match!
KEITH HART V. GOLDIE ROGERS, JIP – We join the match just a few minutes in, with Keith Hart in control of the match. Hart gets the pinfall victory with a diving crossbody from the top rope.
WHALEN is joined at ringside by JR FOLEY and the International Tag Team Champions KERRY BROWN and KELLY KINISKI. Foley says that last week, he told Whalen that in order to get some competition, they would draw names from a hat to determine their opponents.
Foley then holds up the hat, and has Whalen pull two names out of it. The first name is SCOTT HALL and MICK FOLEY.
Whalen is suspicious, saying that Hall has been in the business maybe a year, tops, and Foley is a rookie, who just recently had his first professional match.
Whalen asks to see the hat, to take a look at the other names in it, but JR refuses, telling Whalen to mind his own business.

WHALEN interviews North American Champion BRET HART at ringside.
VTR: David Schultz attacking Bret last week, after Hart’s title defence against Randy Savage.
Bret discusses the attack, and says that he needed about a dozen stitches to close the cut on his head. He says that Schultz may be big and bad, but Bret is the superior wrestler, and he’ll prove it today.

WHALEN interviews THE KIWIS in the ring. Whalen talks about the destruction that the Kiwis have left in their wake since arriving in Stampede. Boyd says that there’s no better feeling than getting in that ring, and beating the hell out of somebody! Morgan says that they don’t care about money, or championship belts, all they care about is hurting people!
THE KIWIS V. JIM NEIDHART & MR. HITO, JIP – We join the match about 8 minutes in. The match is a wild brawl, with a little bit of mat wrestling thrown in by Hito. Neidhart eventually gains the upper hand, and after setting Morgan up on the top rope, Neidhart climbs to the second turnbuckle, and suplexes Morgan to the mat. Neidhart covers Morgan, but as he does, Jonathan Boyd grabs the flagpole that the Kiwis carry to the ring, and jumps off the top rope, breaking the flagpole over Neidhart’s head!
Referee Cedric Hathaway calls for the bell, and disqualifies the Kiwis, but Boyd and Morgan don’t care, Boyd takes the broken end of the flagpole, and digs it into Neidhart’s forehead, opening him up. Hito tries to help his partner, but he’s double-teamed by the Kiwis and thrown from the ring.
This brings a group of babyfaces out, and they pull the Kiwis off of Neidhart and Hito, but Morgan breaks free, and continues to assault Neidhart, until he’s finally removed from the ring.

WHALEN talks about today’s main event, a non-title match between Bret Hart and “Dr. D” David Schultz.
Footage is shown of what led up to this match. We see Schultz refereeing the Bret vs Flair NWA title match on Boxing Day, and obviously favouring Flair. From there, we see several brawls between the two men, including Schultz beating Bret to a bloody pulp after last week’s main event.
NON-TITLE MATCH:
BRET HART V. “DR. D” DAVID SCHULTZ, JIP – We join the match at the 10-minute mark. Bret has the upper hand when we join the match, and he’s got Schultz on the mat, working over his leg. Schultz battles back, but Bret takes him back down to the mat, and continues working on the leg. When he feels that he’s got Schultz softened up, Bret slaps on the Figure-4 Leglock, but Schultz is able to reach the ropes, breaking the hold. Bret pulls Schultz away from the ropes and out to the middle of the ring, and goes for the Figure-4 again. This time, Schultz grabs Bret’s head and rolls him up for a very close nearfall.
As both men get to their feet, Schultz nearly takes Bret’s head off with a lariat, and then puts the boots to the Champion. Bret tries to make a comeback, but Schultz continues to pummel him, and eventually drops Bret on his head with the Piledriver for the 1, 2, 3!
David Schultz has pinned the North American Champion in a non-title match!
Schultz snatches the mic from the ring announcer, and demands that Bret give him a shot at the title next week.
