PNW presents...
The Portland Special
Live at the Portland Sports Arena
Wednesday Jan. 14, 1985
Don Owen handling ring announcing
Don Owen welcomed everyone to the show and told them how much he and PNW appreciates them, and these Portland Special cards are theyre way of saying 'Thank You'. With that, he introduced the first match of the night.....
Match 1: George South and Ricky Santana wrestled to a 10 minute time limit draw.
Match 2: Steve Doll pinned Akio Sato with a flying cross body from the top rope at 10:30.
Match 3: The Assassin & Karl Steiner def. Sivi Afi & Steve Pardee after Steiner nailed Pardee with a vicious clothesline at 13:02.
Match 4: "The World's Strongest Man" Ken Patera def. Mr. Ebony by submission with his full nelson lock after a wild battle that went 9:22.
Intermission
Match 5: Tom Peterson Superstore $500 Challenge Match
Steve Simpson pinned Mike Miller following a back slide at 15:46 to win the $500 bonus. He will compete again this Saturday for a chance to win another $500.
Special Interview with "Playboy" Buddy Rose
Rose came to the ring decked out in a nice suit saying that he had just got back from Las Vegas, and is here with a special challenge. Whoever wins the cage match later tonight and walks out the PNW Champion, he is issuing a challenge to face that man and take the belt from them. Don Coss, who was doing the interview seemed shocked at that, and asked Rose if he has considered that his friend Rip Oliver could very well walk out with the belt still around his waise. Rose said that friends are one thing, but this is business, and his challenge stands. Rose then left the ring area.
Match 6: PNW Tag Team Title Match
The Sheepherders (c) vs. Brett Sawyer & Joe Savoldi
Sawyer and Savoldi came up short as The Sheepherders pinned Savoldi with a double gut buster at 19:55 to retain. Sawyer and Savoldi put up a good fight, but their lack of teaming on a frequent basis hurt them in this one.
Match 7: PNW Heavyweight Title Cage Match
Rip Oliver (c) vs. Billy Jack Haynes
After a bloody and brutal bout that went 27:00, Billy Jack Haynes pinned Rip Oliver. Oliver was attempting a piledriver, but Haynes flipped him over his back, ramming his head into the cage. He slammed him to the mat (picture Bob Holly's Alabama Slam) and flipped over Oliver to hold him down for the three count and the belt!
End show.
