STAMPEDE WRESTLING
SATURDAY, JANUARY 18, 1985
TAPED THE PREVIOUS NIGHT AT THE VICTORIA PAVILION IN CALGARY, ALBERTA
ED WHALEN opens the show at ringside and welcomes us to STAMPEDE WRESTLING!
The first match is already in progress as WHALEN runs down some of the matches we’ll see this week, including the turncoat David Schultz taking on Bruce Hart, the Kiwis facing Davey Boy Smith and Mr. Hito, and the main event, which will see Bret Hart defend the North American title against the man who pinned him in a tag team match last week, Randy “Macho Man” Savage!
KERRY BROWN (w/ JR Foley & Kelly Kiniski) V. KEITH HART, JIP – We join the match at the 7-minute mark. Keith Hart is no slouch, and he gives Brown a tough match, but in the end, Brown, one-half of the International Tag Team Champions, puts Keith away with a Piledriver.
ED WHALEN climbs into the ring and interviews JR FOLEY and International Tag Team Champions THE MASTERS OF DISASTER: KERRY BROWN & KELLY KINISKI.
Kiniski wonders why they haven’t been given any challengers for the International Tag belts lately, JR Foley thinks it’s because the matchmakers can’t find a team that actually wants to get in the ring with Kiniski and Brown. Foley says that if the matchmakers won’t give them challengers, then they’re going to take matters into their own hands, and next week, Foley says he’ll pull two names out of his hat, and those two men will challenge the Masters of Disaster for the International Tag Team titles!

A video airs, highlighting the Kiwis, Rip Morgan and Jonathan Boyd.
WHALEN discusses the Kiwis, and says that they’ve been on a tear since arriving in the area a couple of weeks ago.
DAVEY BOY SMITH and MR. HITO come out to ringside. Hito talks about teaming up with Jim Neidhart last week to face the Kiwis, and how the match ended. He says that Neidhart has other commitments this week, and can’t be here, but Davey Boy Smith is a former North American and International Tag Team Champion, and if anyone can help him get revenge on the Kiwis, it’s Davey Boy!
Smith says that he and Mr. Hito will run the Kiwis right out of Stampede wrestling.
DAVID SCHULTZ V. BRUCE HART, JIP – We join the match about 10 minutes in, and Bruce Hart has been busted open. He’s bleeding quite heavily, as Schultz continues to pummel him. Bruce tries to make a comeback, but Schultz is all over him, and just doesn’t give Hart a chance to get anything going. Schultz is about as vicious as we’ve ever seen him, and catches Bruce with a wicked Lariat, giving Schultz the 1, 2, 3!
WHALEN climbs into the ring after the match, and interviews SCHULTZ. Dr. D talks about Bret Hart, and says that all the pain, all the suffering that Bret has coming his way, he brought it all on himself. Schultz says that he called the World title match right down the middle, but Bret, the whiny little puke that he is, couldn’t accept that he lost fair and square, and had to blame someone else. Schultz says that Bret’s really pissed him off, and pissing off David Schultz is the last thing in the world that you want to do!

Back from the break, THE KIWIS stop by ringside to talk to Ed Whalen before their match. Jonathan Boyd says that he and Morgan got into wrestling for one reason . . . they like to beat people up! He says that they’ve never cared about money or fame, or even championships.
Rip Morgan says that the only thing that drives them in this sport, is getting their hands on some unlucky punk, and beating him to a bloody pulp! He says that’s exactly what they’re going to do to Davey Boy and Hito!
DAVEY BOY SMITH & MR. HITO V. THE KIWIS – We see this match in it’s entirety, which is about 6 or 7 minutes. The match goes back and forth, and Smith and Hito hold their own against their bigger, rougher opponents. In the end, though, the Kiwis cut Davey Boy off from his partner, keeping him isolated in their corner, and they repeatedly double-team him. After knocking Smith to the mat, Morgan holds Smith in place, while Boyd goes to the top rope, and delivers a kneedrop, right onto the shoulder of Davey Boy. Morgan picks Davey Boy up, delivers a shoulderbreaker, then holds Smith while Boyd delivers a second kneedrop onto the now-injured shoulder. Smith screams in agony, rolling around on the mat, clutching his shoulder. Referee Cedric Hathaway stops the match, saying Smith can’t continue, and awards the match to the Kiwis.
Boyd and Morgan celebrate, then jaw with some ringside fans while Mr. Hito tends to Davey Boy Smith.

NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP:
BRET HART (Champion) V. RANDY “MACHO MAN” SAVAGE, JIP – We join the match about 15 minutes into the 30-minute time limit. Hart has the advantage, taking Savage down to the mat with an armdrag, then hits a standing dropkick as Savage scrambles back up to his feet. From there, Bret goes to work on the arm and shoulder of the challenger, keeping Savage on the mat. A moment later, Savage fights his way to his feet, and fires off several hard punches, thatn stun Bret, and the champion lets go of Savage. The Macho Man goes on the offensive, and after knocking Bret to the mat, Savage puts the boots to him.
Bret battles back, but his comeback is short-lived, as Savage jabs a thumb into the champion’s eye, stopping Bret dead in his tracks. Savage jumps off the top rope with a double axehandle that puts Bret on the mat. Savage then goes back to the top rope, and leaps off with his flying elbowdrop!
Bret rolls out of the way at the last second!!!!
As Bret moves, Savage crashes to the mat, and Bret covers him for the 1, 2, 3!
Bret Hart has pinned Randy Savage to retain the North American title!
Here comes “Dr. D” David Schultz!!! Schultz jumps into the ring and attacks Hart from behind as Bret is getting his hand raised. Schultz knocks Hart to the mat, then takes the North American title belt, and repeatedly bashes Bret in the face with it!
In what seems like only seconds, Bret’s face becomes a crimson mask, as Schultz bashes him in the face and head with the belt, again and again!
The babyface locker room empties, as the wrestlers, and several officials, hit the ring and drag Schultz away.
