It is announced before the show begins that Lord Jonathan Boyd has been injured and that Paul Jones will take his place in the Battle Royal, also Rufus R. Jones has been added to the Battle Royal and George South has been removed.

The match is fast a furious. The two men brawl all over the ring, with Valentine gaining the upper hand when Valentine distracts the referee and allows Jones to throw powder in Valiant’s face. The powder isn't enough to get the pin, but it derails Valiant’s assault.

White begins to work over the leg of Valiant. Valentine has one goal, it’s not to win this match, it’s to break Valiant’s leg and take the bounty money. Valiant is trying with all his might to get back into this, but he's fighting two men as Jones keeps getting involved to help Valentine.

Valentine gets Valiant into the corner and just is wailing on him, when Valentine starts to come back the roar of the crowd is deafening as Valiant doesn't feel the assault of Valentine he is feeding off the crowd!!!!! Valiant blocks Valentine’s punch and rocks Valiant with one of his own. Again Valentine tries to punch Valiant and again Valiant blocks it and rocks Valentine!!! Valentine is in the middle of the ring and Valiant is nailing him with hard shots to the head!!!! Valentine is in trouble and Jones jumps on the apron and distract referee Scrappy McGowen. When he does he tosses a pair of brass knux to Valentine!!! Valentine tries to nail Valiant with them, Valiant blocks it and takes the Knux from Valentine and decks Valentine with them!!!!! Valiant puts the knux in his tights and goes for the cover!!!!

Paul Jones is fuming in jumps into the ring and is complaining about the brass knux!!! The ref says he didn’t see it!! Valiant pulls the Knux out of his tights and blasts Jones with them!!!! Valiant then bails out of the ring as Jonathan Boyd and Rip Morgan rush the ring!!!!

Ivan tried to come to the ring with Nikita but was escorted to the back before the match could begin. Nikita and The Bull throw caution to the wind as soon as the bell rings, there is some deep hate between The Bull and The Russians. The Bull and Nikita batter each other with hard blows to the head and body, turning this match into a total slugfest. After a good ten minutes of knock down, drag out fighting, Nikita tosses Manny into the ropes and tries to connect with the Russian Sickle, but Manny ducks it and comes back with the Flying Jalapeno!!! Manny covers!!!

Manny can’t believe it!!!! Nikita gets back on his feet and pounds his chest!!!! Manny tackles Nikita and they fall through the ropes!!!! Nikita and Manny are brawling outside of the ring and not paying attention to the referee as he counts both men out!!

The two don’t seem to hear the bell as they keep brawling!!! Officials come out to separate the men and the crowd is sent to intermission to try and calm the whole situation down!!!!

BATTLE BOWL ’84 BATTLE ROYAL

(Participants: "MACHO MAN" RANDY SAVAGE, SAM HOUSTON, JIMMY GARVIN, JOHNNY WEAVER, , BUGSY MCGRAW, PAUL JONES, "DOWNTOWN" DENNY BROWN, RIP MORGAN, LES THORNTON, RUFUS R JONES, ITALIAN STALLION, KEITH LARSEN, THUNDERFOOT I, THUNDERFOOT II, AND DICK SLATER)

The ring is filling full of wrestlers as we come back from intermission. Paul Jones and Rip Morgan are the last men in the ring and the bell is called for. The Italian Stallion doesn't have the chance to contribute much to the match as Dick Slater tosses him over the top rope quickly. Randy Savage and Johnny Weaver are in the center of the ring laying in heavy chops that are echoing throughout the Charlotte Coliseum. Les Thronton tosses Rufus R. Jones, Thornton takes too much time bragging to Rufus about what he has done, because Keith Larsen dropkicks Thornton from behind sending him out. Morgan has spent the whole match protecting Paul Jones but gets drawn into a fight with Bugsy Mcgraw, Denny Brown goes right after Jones, Jones and Brown trade blows, Brown looks like he is about to eliminate Jones when Dick Slater comes up behind Brown and tosses him out. Jones smiles and offers a handshake to Slater, Slater shakes Jones’ hand THEN KICKS HIM IN THE GUT!!!! SLATER SENDS JONES SAILING OVER THE TOP ROPE!!!!


Morgan is trying to toss McGraw when he turns around to see Jones get eliminated he stops trying to toss McGraw and goes right after Dick Slater!!! Slater is ready for him and backdrops the charging Morgan out of the ring!!! Morgan is pissed!!! Morgan tries to climb back in, but several referee's and officials stop him and convince him to go to the locker room,. As he is leaving Bugsy McGraw is eliminated by the Thunderfoots. Morgan goes to attack Bugsy and the two men fight all the way to the back. Randy Savage is still paired off with Johnny Weaver, and laying into each other Jimmy Garvin has gotten ahold of Sam Houston and they are trading chops in the corner, The Thunderfoots team up to toss Keith Larsen, then attack Dick Slater!!! The masked men are beating on Slater. II loads his mask and tries to headbutt Slater as I pins his arms back. Slater moves and II hits I with the headbutt KOing his partner!!!! Slater then tosses II over the top rope, and follows it up by tossing I out!!! On the other side of the ring Randy Savage tosses out Johnny Weaver!!!!!!

We are down to the final four, which is made up of Randy Savage, Dick Slater, Jimmy Garvin and Sam Houston!!!! Savage takes Slater, while Houston keeps fighting with Jimmy Garvin After several minute of intense back and forth action Houston slips out of a brainbuster and dropkicks Garvin from behind sending him flying over the top rope!!! Garvin can’t believe it goes insane outside of the ring!!!! Savage and Slater are killing each other with punches!! Savage rips Slater’s eyes, but Slater rips right back at Savage’s!!!! Slater whips Savage into the corner and charges for a leaping splash, but Savage moves!!!! Slater crashes into the corner and flips over the turnbuckle and out of the ring!!!

Houston tries to jump Savage from behind with a Bulldog, but Savage shoves him off!!! Savage is unloading with punches on Houston in the corner!!! He pulls Houston to the middle of the ropes and whips Houston into the ropes, Houston leapfrogs Savage then connects with a dropkick that sends Savage back into the ropes!!! Houston rushes to try and flip Savage out of the ring but he can’t get him over!!! Houston peppers Savage with punches and kicks, Houston then backs up and rushes at Savage to try and clothesline him over, but Savage ducks down and backdrops Houston over the top rope and out of the ring!!!!!! Savage wins!!!!!

Tommy Young checks all four men and then calls for the bell, and the match is on!!!! Blanchard and Steamboat start for their respective teams, Blanchard and Steamboat go face to face, jaw jacking in the center of the ring. Blanchard is the first to throw a punch, but it's blocked by Steamboat who fires off one of his own. Steamboat and Blanchard are now standing in the middle of the ring going toe to toe with punches and chops!!!!

Steamboat starts to get the upper hand and backs Blanchard into the corner, he climbs on top of Blanchard and begins to rain down punches hitting him with ten big punches as the crowd counts along!!! Steamboat jumps off and Blanchard staggers out of the corner, only to get caught with a deep arm drag!! Steamboat holds onto the arm drag and turns it into an arm bar.

Referee Tommy Young checks in but Blanchard is not about to give it up. Steamboat wrenches the arm bar some more before pulling Blanchard off the mat. Still holding the arm bar Steamboat tags out to Flair. Flair comes in and continues to work over Blanchard's arm. Blanchard is looking for a way to break the hold and resorts to grabbing Flair's hair backing him into the corner. Flair releases the arm bar and it looks like we are going to get a clean break when Blanchard hits a cheap shot on Flair, stunning him for a brief moment. Blanchard tries to whip Flair out of the corner, but Flair reverses it and it's Blanchard that crashes hard into the opposite corner.

Flair chops Blanchard before giving him a snapmare out of the corner and then dropping the Flair knee across his forehead!!!. A cover only yields a two count and Flair tags out to Ricky Steamboat. The Dream Team hit a Double Suplex, but a cover once again only gets two, this time because Wahoo breaks it up!!. Steamboat grabs another armbar on Blanchard.
Steamboat keeps working the arm bar. He pulls Blanchard to his feet , tag out to Flair, whips Blanchard into the ropes and hits him with a Punch in the stomach doubling Blanchard over, which allows Flair to hit a knee lift and get a two count. Flair pulls Blanchard to his feet and goes to whip him into the ropes, but Blanchard finds a way to reverse it!! Blanchard ducks down for a backdrop, but does it too soon and Flair surprises him with a Sunset Flip!!! Once again two count only as Blanchard is able to kick out.

Both men get to their feet and Flair grabs a headlock. Blanchard backs Flair into the ropes and then sends him off, not seeing that Steamboat tagged himself in. Flair ducks a clothesline and when Blanchard turns around Steamboat catches him with a Drop Kick!!! Two count. Blanchard is looking for the tag now, but Steamboat isn't letting up. Blanchard is trying to beg off and backs himself into the corner. Steamboat tries to press in for the kill, but Blanchard is ready. He grabs Steamboat by the front of his trunks and falls back, the momentum carrying Steamboat through the ropes and out of the ring!!! Wahoo drops off the apron and grabs Steamboat bodyslamming The Dragon on the arena floor!! Flair races to Steamboat’s aide and Wahoo backs off and climbs back on the apron.
Steamboat is back in the ring, but he isn't in control anymore. Blanchard has Steamboat in the Awesome Twosome’s corner. Blanchard hammers Steamboat with some hard forearms before tagging out to Wahoo. They whip Steamboat into the ropes and clobber him with a Double Clothesline. Cover only gets two Wahoo continues the punishment hitting a suplex on Steamboat then whipping him hard into the corner. Steamboat staggers out of the corner and Wahoo hits the Big Chop!!!! Steamboat goes down hard!!! COVER!!!!

Steamboat gets his foot on the bottom rope breaking the count!!! Wahoo argues with Young about the count. Wahoo reaches down to pull Steamboat up and Steamboat surprises him with a roll up!!!! Two Count and Wahoo is out and mad. He puts the boots to Steamboat just kicking him into the mat. He pulls Steamboat up and whips him into the Awesome Twosome’s corner, following him in with a hard clothesline.

Wahoo tags in Blanchard and the two start to unload on Steamboat in the corner. Steamboat tries to fight back firing away on both men and fighting out of the corner!!! Blanchard stops that by clipping Steamboat's knee and sending him down hard to the mat. Blanchard continues to punish Steamboat's knee as referee Young gets Wahoo out of the ring. Blanchard locks on a Spinning Toe Hold!!!
Steamboat is holding his knee and yelling in pain as we return from the break. Blanchard kicks it a few times before tagging out to Wahoo. Wahoo pulls Steamboat up and executes a Shin breaker. Wahoo then gets up and starts running his mouth to Flair, he pushes him off the apron. Flair rushes into the ring and Young stops him. This allows the Awesome Twosome to grab Steamboat's legs and make a wish. Blanchard stays in the ring and Wahoo comes out, when Young turns around they both swear they made a tag.

Blanchard drags Steamboat's leg over to the ropes. He drapes the leg of the Dragon over the ropes, Blanchard leaps in the air and drops his weight across Steamboat's leg. Blanchard then points at Flair and lets out a wooo before he locks on the Figure Four Leg Lock!!!!! Steamboat screams out in pain. Flair tries to jump into the ring but Young cut him off, while Young is trying to get Flair out of the ring Wahoo helps give Tully some extra illegal leverage!!! Young finally turns around but Wahoo has let go. Young keeps asking Steamboat if he gives up, but Steamboat keeps refusing. While Young is paying attention to Steamboat, Blanchard is grabbing the middle rope for extra leverage. Blanchard gets several near falls as the pain drives Steamboat's shoulders to the mat.

Suddenly a rush of adrenaline begins to flow through Steamboat, he is refusing to give in or go down. Blanchard reaches over and slaps the taste out of Steamboat's mouth!!! Steamboat's head snaps back and he starts yelling at Blanchard, Steamboat then starts to reverse the Figure Four!!! Steamboat is fighting to turn over, while Blanchard does everything he can to hold on, BUT STEAMBOAT IS ABLE TO TURN THE FIGURE FOUR OVER!!!! Now all the pressure is on Blanchard!!! Blanchard is now howling in pain and quickly rolls into the ropes to break the hold!!!!

Blanchard is first to his feet as Steamboat is having a hard time putting any weight on his leg. Blanchard grabs Steamboat and whips him into the ropes, Blanchard swings with a wild clothesline, but Steamboat ducks it, Steamboat and Blanchard then both go for a Cross body Block!!!! The two men crash into each other and are out cold in the middle of the ring.

Tommy Young starts to make his mandatory 10 count. Both men start to stir at 4 and Steamboat is getting closer and closer to Flair. Wahoo tries to rush into the ring but Tommy Young stops him. While his back is turned Steamboat makes the tag to Flair who comes in like a house of fire unloading on Blanchard, he fires off hard chops before whipping into the ropes and catching him with a big backdrop. Flair goes for the cover, but Tommy Young breaks it up and orders Flair out of the ring, saying he didn't see the tag.

Flair tries arguing with Young, but Young won't hear it. Steamboat limps back into the ring and grabs Blanchard and whips him into the ropes, Steamboat ducks his head for a backdrop, but Blanchard instead kicks him in the face!!! Steamboat goes down and Blanchard tags out. Wahoo rushes into the ring and locks on THE INDIAN DEATHLOCK!!!!
Steamboat is inching closer and closer to the ropes, and he reaches them!!! Young orders Wahoo to break!! Wahoo raises his hand in the air thinking he has won. Young tells him no and Wahoo is in shock. Blanchard wants the tag and Wahoo gives it to him. He goes over to Steamboat to pull him up but Steamboat fires rights into Tully;s face before grabbing him by the hair and throwing Tully through the ropes out of the ring!!!

Steamboat starts the slow crawl toward Flair!! Wahoo is trying to get Tully back to his feet. Tully finally gets back in the ring, he tries to stop Steamboat but is too late, and this time Young sees it. Flair is in the ring and exploding with adrenaline. He fires away with hard chops that knock Blanchard off his feet, Wahoo is in the ring and meets the same fate, Flair then dumps Wahoo out of the ring and is all alone with Blanchard!!!!!

Flair is very fresh and yells “NOW WE GO TO SCHOOL!!!” Blanchard charges Flair and gets greeted with a chop!! Flair pulls Tully up and he just unloads on him, he hits a high delayed vertical suplex, float over, two count only!!! Flair pulls Tully up whips him into the ropes and levels him with a big chop. Flair drops a knee and covers, but once again only two. Flair pulls Tully to his feet, whips him into the ropes and grabs a Sleeper Hold. Tully is trying to fight it. Wahoo is yelling at him on the outside. Tully twists his body and then fires two elbows into Flair's side, he backs Flair into the ropes and fires him off. Tully drops his head and Flair leap frogs him, Steamboat jumps into the ring, Tully turns around

In the ring Flair has Tully backed into the corner, he hits Tully with a couple of big chops then tries to whip him across to the opposite corner only Tully reverses the whip!! Flair flip in the corner!! Flair runs the apron, climbs to the top rope and comes off with a cross body block!!!!

Jay kicks out! Kerndole grabs a headlock takeover and brings Jay down to the mat. Kerndole grinds down on the headlock for several minutes before Jay fights to his feet. Jay breaks Kerndole’s hold and shoots him into the ropes, Kerndole leapfrogs Jay again but then gets caught by with a Powerslam!!!! Kerndole staggers up and gets dropped with a running clothesline!!! Kerndole is backed against the ropes, Jay shoots him off and hits a high back body drop!!! Ivan runs into the ring and gets hip tossed!!! Mark now in the ring, Jay and Mark send Kerndole into the ropes and hit a double clothesline, double clothesline for Ivan!!!! Jay covers Kerndole!!

Tommy Young pushes Ivan out of the ring, Jay and Mark make a tag, Mark whips Kerndole hard into the corner and follows him in with a splash, but Kerndole moves at the last second!!! Mark crashes into the corner, Kerndole grabs Mark by the hair and sends him face first into the steel cage!!!! Mark tastes the steel first!!!! Kerndole makes the cover!!

Kerndole grabs an arm wringer and then tags out to Ivan, Kerndole holds the arm out and Ivan hits it with a double ax handle from the second turnbuckle, then grabs an arm wringer of his own!. Ivan works the arm wring for a handful of seconds until Mark pulls Ivan in and slams him to the mat!!! Kerndole jumps in from behind and nails Mark with an ax handle to the back!!!! Jay tries to rush into the ring but Young stops him!! With the referee distracted Ivan and Kerndole take the chance to hit a double suplex!!!!!! Ivan pins Mark!!! Young turns around to make the count!!

Young once again has to push the hot head Jay out of the ring, allowing Kerndole to get into the ring, Kerndole and Ivan take Mark and they toss his hard into the cage!!!! Ivan then locks in a rear chinlock. Blood is pouring down Mark’s face as Young asks if he give up but Jay is refusing. After several minutes, Mark starts to fight to his feet!!!! Ivan is doing everything he can to hold on, Mark gets some shots into Ivan’s kidneys and then turns Ivan just enough to lift him up and drop him on his head for a belly to back suplex!!! Both men are down!!! They slowly are crawling to their corners, Ivan is closest so he gets the tag to Kerndole first, but Mark is also able to make the tag!!!! Jay and Kerndole meet center ring and start slugging it out!!! Jay is getting the upper hand until Kerndole rakes his eyes!!!!! Kerndole whips Jay into the ropes and Jay comes back with a monster lariat that damn near takes Kerndole’s head off!!! Kerndole staggers to his feet and Jay gives him the big chop to the head!!!! Kerndole collapses like a ton of bricks!!!! Is that enough to get the pin?!? Jay aims to find out as he makes the cover!!

Jay pulls Kernodle up by his hair and point at the cage, he then runs Kerndole hard into the cage!!! Jay tosses Kernodle into the cage with all he’s got and Kernodle flies into it!!! Jay then grabs Kerndole and rams his head into the cage ten times while the crowd counts along!!! Kerndole is bleeding like a stuck pig!!!! Kerndole staggers around Jay hits a big double chop!!! Jay covers!!!

Jay pulls the bloody Kerndole up and throws him into the ropes, he ducks down for a backdrop but Kerndole kicks him in the mouth to stand him back up and then clotheslines him down!!! Kerndole looks worn out and tags out to Ivan!! The two whip Jay into the corner hard and then beat him down together!!!! Ivan grabs Jay’s leg and drags him out of the corner, Ivan covers Jay!

Ivan tries a second time but a second time Jay blocks it!!! Jay sends Ivan into the cage!!! Ivan staggers off, Jay grabs Ivan and throws him into all four sides of the cage!!!! Jay makes the cover!!!

They grab Kernodle and whip him into the ropes!!! DOUBLE CLOTHESLINE!!! Ivan is staggering to his feet!!! DOUBLE CLOTHESLINE FOR IVAN!!! THE YOUNGBLOODS ARE FEELING IT!!! JAY CLIMBS TO THE TOP ROPE, MARK GRABS HIM, ROCKET LAUNCHER ONTO KERNDOLE!!! JAY COVERS

The cage door opens as Ricky Steamboat and Manny Fernandez lead several babyfaces into the cage to celebrate!!! Ivan and Kerndole slip out of the ring and Nikita helps them to the back. Meanwhile in the ring Ricky puts Jay on his shoulders and Manny puts Mark on his, the babyfaces applaud as Mark and Jay hold the World Tag Titles above their heads!!!!

Great closing moment with the Youngbloods having their moment of triumph. And lots of surprises. I never expected Sam Houston to last so long in the battle royal - he is clearly the shoe-in for rookie of the year for 1984.

I also expected Nikita to win the US title, but I suspect that will be happening at Starrcade.

What a night of action. Tully and Wahoo vs. Steamboat and Flair would have been worth the price of admission. Huge shot of adrenaline for Tully, pinning Flair. Even though Blanchard held on to his TV title it felt as though Steamboat and Flair had all the momentum, even after Wahoo lashed the Dragon.

Surprised to see Valiant over Valentine and the Youngbloods take the Tag Titles, but like Justin said, after a long year for them it would've been a great payoff for the fans. Especially after seeing Flair pinned. What a battle royal! From pushing Tully on TV to not only making the final four but outlasting Slater and Garvin is a minor miracle, and Justin is right Sam Houston has to be one of the hottest young stars on the horizon. Was hoping to see Garvin pick up the win if for nothing besides promo ammo, something to add to his collection, but honestly you write him so well that I think it does more help for Savage quite honestly.
