Jim Ross: “It’s a new year, 1985, and joining me for commentary is the one and only Cowboy Bill Watts.
Bill: “Thanks Jim, and with a New Year comes New Year’s Resolutions. And my resolution this year is the MESS WITH THE FREEBIRDS. It is my displeasure to report that as a result of an incident that took place Christmas night in Little Rock at the conclusion of the North American title match, Magnum TA, the former champion, has suffered grave injuries at the hands of Michael Hayes and the Freebirds. Magnum had to immediately go under emergency reconstructive surgery to basically put back together his shattered face. We are going to show exactly what happened in Little Rock, Jim and I will warn parents right now, that when that segment comes on you may want to remove little missy and junior from the room.
“It’s pretty clear as far as I am concerned Jim that Magnum TA will never wrestle again. But I know he has millions of fans across the country and we will do all we can to keep the fans up to date as Magnum recovers and tries to reenter society and pursue a career after wrestling.
“I know the Freebirds think what they did was funny. I know thy think it was just a barrel of laughs. Well, let me assure Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy and Buddy Roberts that I'm not laughing. I have the power with the Mid South Championship Committee to strip both Hayes and Roberts of their belts. Certainly their behavior was not becoming of a Mid-South Champion. But to me, titles are won and lost in the ring, not by the stroke of a pen. But mark my words, Jim Ross, as long as the Freebirds remain in Mid-South Wrestling, I will do all in my power to make their lives a living hell and that is my New Year’s Resolution.
Jim: “Let’s go to Boyd Pierce for the first match of 1985!

Jim Ross explains we cannot show the footage of the North American Heavyweight title match from Little Rock because of agreements with various broadcast partners, and shows photos of the bloody Michael Hayes v Magnum Ta match. Then footage of what happen after the match is shown:
. . . . .WAIT! ROBERTS AND HAYES THEN JOIN GORDY AND BEAT DOWN THE JUNKYARD DOG AT RINGSIDE! TIGER CONWAY JUNIOR JOINS THE FIGHT, BUT QUICKLY GETS DESTROYED, AND satisfied that both Tiger and JYD are neutralized THE FREEBIRDS ENTER THE RING, AND TURN THEIR SIGHTS ON MAGNUM!
Gordy and Roberts grab Magnum by the arms, and Hayes demands the house mike:
Hayes: “HEY MAGNUM? Remember the first slap I gave you? It aint nothing compared to THIS!
WITH THAT, HAYES SLAPS MAGNUM ACROSS THE FACE WITH THE NORTH AMERICAN TITLE BELT!!!! WHAT A DISGRACE!!!!! THIS IS DISGUSTING!!!!!
HAYES ORDERS GORDY AND ROBERTS TO PICK UP MAGNUM AGAIN, AND HAYES RUNS OFF THE ROPES THIS TIME AND CROWNS MAGNUM AGAIN! , MAGNUM IS A BLOODY MESS, AND HAYES HAS MAGNUM HELD BACK AND SLAPPED WITH THE BELT A THIRD TIME!!! FANS, THAT IS 10 POUNDS OF METAL BEING POUNDED INTO AS MANS SKULL!!!!! MAGNUMS FACE IS A PULP!!!! THEY GO FOR A FOURTH TIME!!!!

IT’S HACKSAW AGAIN! THERES NO NEGOTIATING THIS TIME, HE THROWS A 2X4 INTO THE RING, AND STAGGERS IN, ONLY TO BE OVERWHELMED BY ALL THREE FREEBIRDS, AND KICK A MUD HOLE INTO THE BRAIN-DEAD HACKSAW, BUT THAT BUYS JUST ENOUGH TIME FOR JUNKYARD DOG TO RECOVER, AND CHASES THE FREEBIRDS OUT WITH HACKSAW'S BOARD!!!!
JYD, ALONG WITH TIGER, CHECKS ON MAGNUM, FANS, THE FORMER NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPION IS OUT COLD, and as Hacksaw recovers and tries to check on MAGNUM, but each time JUNKYARD DOG, in a fury, chases off Hacksaw!!!! JYD seems annoyed with Hacksaw Duggan for some reason tonight, fans.
Magnum still not moving in the ring, fans. This seems serious. Finally medics come out, and put Magnum is a neck brace, as a precaution, and wheel him out on a gurney. Three blows to the face with a ten-pound title belt at the hands of the Freebirds after a brutal match. We all need to pray for Magnum TA.

Joel Watts is joined by JUNKYARD DOG backstage! JYD says he has visited Magnum TA at the hospital, his face is still covered in bandages from the surgery, and he is grateful for the cards and letters!
Jim: “That is great to hear JYD. Now one thing I could not help but notice is there seemed to be some issues with you and Hacksaw Duggan. You and Duggan will face Angelo Mosca and Killer Khan for the Mid-South Tag team titles at Wrestlebowl '85 JANUARY 25 in Oklahoma City. But I noticed you were less than pleased with Hacksaw Duggan’s involvement in the footage we just saw.
JYD: “You know somethin’ man, everyone keep pointing the finger at the Dog because this fool Ken Mantell goin’ round sayin’ Dog is with me, but I sometimes wonder about the Saw. I send him a Christmas card, don’t get any back. I call his house, he never home, don’t call back the Dog. Then, Christmas morning, I stop by his house to pick him up to take him to Little Rock for the match, we always ride together, he's not there. Who Hacksaw riding with I wonder? Then this stone fool come out with his head split wide open like a cantelope trying to help Magnum TA, I’m sayin' to myself, this fool don’t take my calls, don’t send me no cards, blows off the ride, I didn’t even see him in the locker room the whole night, now he show up and gonna do somethin’?
Joel: “Junkyard Dog, are you accusing Hacksaw Duggan of something?
JYD: “WHOOOOA WHOOA WHOOA there son, I aint accusing no one of nuthin’. I just wanna know where Hacksaw's head is at. We gonna be tag team partners, we going up against Angelo Mosca and Killer Khan, not Laurel and Hardy, and I want to make sure we on the same page. So Joel, if you can get hold of Duggan, hell I sure as cant, but let him know to return the Dogs calls.
Joel: “All right, well there you have it fans, I certainly will seek out Hacksaw Duggan and can assure I will pass on that man's comments as Junkyard Dog and Hacksaw Duggan will challenge Angelo Mosca and Killer Khan for the Mid-South tag team titles January 25 at WrestleBowl in Oklahoma Coty! Jim Ross: “Fans we go back in time once more to Little Rock. Earlier in the program we learned that Hacksaw Duggan and Junkyard Dog will challenge Angelo Mosca and Killer Khan for the Mid-South Tag team titlesin Oklahoma City. But before that match, Ken Mantels team took on the challenge of Andre the Giant and Ernie Ladd in Little Rock, let’s join that match progress right now:
9. MID-SOUTH TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
ANGELO MOSCA + KILLER KHAN w/Ken MANTELL V ANDRE THE GIANT + ERNIE LADD
The fans got their thrill watching André overpower Mosca and Khan,. Khan even did an off the top rope spot threatening to reinjure Andres ankle but, André rolled away in time.
It appeared as if Ladd and Giant had the titles won, but Mantels interference made the difference at 7:12 when he tripped Ladd right into a Killer Khan double karate chop, and pins Ladd before Andre could make the save. Andre protests to the ref, as Mantell leads his charges away and Ladd nurses his throat.
Mantell saw Andre arguing, and headed back to the ring, despite Mosca trying to convince him to not do it. Mantell enters the ring, and as Ladd puts his hands on his hip, laughing, Mantell berates Andre! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Andre laughs looks away, then turns back towards Mantel . . . .

ANDRE PICKS UP MANTELL, AND KHAN SLIDES IN, BUT IS KNOCKED OUT OF THE RING BY BIG CAT! HE COMES KHAN:
ANDRE THROWS MANTELL INTO KHAN, AND THEY CLASH AND ROLL OUT OF THE RING TOGETHER!!!!
FANS, MAYBE NOT A TITLE WIN, BUT A MORAL VICTORY AS KILLER KHAN AND ANGELO MOSCA CARRIES THEIR STUNNED AND HUMILIATED MANAGER OUT OF THE RING!

Jim: “Well, Mr. Mantell, I have one question to ask: WHAT were you thinking?
Ken Mantell: “Jim Ross, just because I may be the most financially well connected man in wrestling does not mean that I am soft. I am man enough to stand up to any man including Andre the Giant whining to the referee and all who would listen about losing a match fair and square to my men, and not only did I slap Andre in his big, fat ugly face but if that big idiot was standing in front of me right now, I would slap him in his face once again!
WAIT! IT’S MATCHMAKER GRIZZLY SMITH!
Smith: “Well, it’s interesting you say that Mr. Mantell, but you’ll have to wait until January 21 for that chance because that night Andre the Giant will step into the ring with . . . . .YOU, KEN MANTELL, ONE ON ONE!
Ken: “WHAT!!! YOU CAN’T BOOK ME AGAINST THAT BEHEMOTH! I'M A MERE MANAGER!!
Bill: “Well, Ken, like you said, you’re not soft, so I’m sure you’ll have no problem!
Ken lurches at all Bill and Grizzly, but the tag team champions hold him back!
“YOU CAN’T DO THIS!!! IM A MILLIONAIRE!!! YOU HAVENT HEARD THE END OF THIS!!!!
Jim: “FANS, A BIG NIGHT FOR THAT MANTELL JANUARY 25 IN OKLAHOMA CITY, a Tag team title match and he faces the Eighth Wonder of the World!!! WE WILL BE RIGHT BACK!

It’s a challenging match, and the game Shane Douglas gets his 1985 off to a good start with near fall after near fall, but Roberts wins with a power slam.
MICHAEL HAYES AND TRRY GORDY IN THE SCENE, Douglas wisely powders, holding his head.
Joel Watts steps into the ring to interview the Birds.
Joel: “Congratulations on the win, Buddy.
Buddy: “Aw well, let me tell you something, that crazy Shane Douglas, he's too much ha ha.
Michael: “You know somethin’ Joel Watts, me and Buddy Jack were not very good friends this Christmas. I’m runnin’ around smashing peoples faces with this here North American belt, and Buddy Jack has proven himself to be the greatest TV champion ever. But what about Bamm Bamm here? He aint got no belt . . . until NOW.
Hayes hands over a present to Gordy!
“Open it up, big man, it’s a belated Christmas gift!
Gordy opens it up . . . and ITS title belt . . .

Buddy and Michael put the belt on Terry! They are all smiles and high fives until BILL WATTS STEPS INTO THE RING! He is tailed by Grizzly Smith!
Michael: “Aw great, its Officer Hardass to spoil the fun!
Watts: “It’s good to see you too, Michael Hayes. But Mr. Smith here has another match to announce for Oklahoma City.
Grizzly: “Buddy Roberts, congratulations on your fine win today. I am here to announce your next opponent.
Buddy: “I can’t wait! Bring it on! Wendell Cooley? Al Perez? Randy Rose? Maybe even that up and comer Mike Davis!
