ED WHALEN opens the show at ringside and welcomes us to STAMPEDE WRESTLING!

We’ll also see North American Champion Bret Hart defend the title against Randy “Macho Man” Savage, who won a Battle Royal on boxing day to earn a shot at the belt.
LOUIS CYR V. BOBBY BURKE, JIP – Burke can’t get anything going against his much larger opponent, and Cyr gets the win by submission with a Bearhug.

ED WHALEN is in the ring with North American Champion BRET HART. Whalen says that Bret was unsuccessful in his quest for the World title on Boxing day, mainly due to David Schultz and his actions, and says that the fans can see for themselves.
VTR: Ric Flair vs Bret Hart, Boxing Day at the Stampede Corral in Calgary:
Bret goes on the offensive to start the third fall, but becomes frustrated when he feels that Schultz is counting too slowly whenever Bret has Flair covered. Eventually, Bret confronts Schultz, asking him why he’s counting so slow. Schultz denies that there were any slow counts. Bret goes back to work on the Nature Boy, and after a minute or two, he gets another nearfall, and this time it’s painfully obvious to Bret, and everyone in the building, that Schultz is taking his sweet time counting the fall.
Now Bret is really pissed, he gets in Dr. D’s face again, and this time Schultz shoves Bret back. Flair was walking up behind Hart, and as Schultz shoved him, Flair rolled Bret up from behind. Schultz made a SUPER fast three-count and “Nature Boy” Ric Flair has once again regained his World title over Bret Hart.
Schultz hands Flair the belt, then leaves the ring as Bret shakes his head in disbelief.
BRET can’t understand why David Schultz, a man that he’s stood beside in this ring, a man he had a great deal of respect for, would do what he did.
At that point, “DR. D” DAVID SCHULTZ comes out to the ring. He climbs through the ropes, and snatches the mic out of Bret’s hand.
SCHULTZ says that he doesn’t know what Bret or Whalen are talking about, as everyone saw from the footage, he called the match right down the middle. He thinks that maybe Bret expected Schultz to show some bias on Bret’s behalf, due to their history together, but he told Bret and everyone else the week before the show, that he wasn’t going to play favourites.
WHALEN says that it’s obvious from the footage that Schultz most certainly did NOT call the match down the middle, he obviously favoured the Nature Boy.
SCHULTZ gets in Whalen’s face and asks him if he’s hearing him right, if Whalen is really going to stand here and question Schultz’s integrity? Schultz grabs Whalen by the collar . . . and Bret Hart hauls off and slugs Schultz!
The two men brawl all around the ring, before Schultz gets the upper hand and throws Bret through the ropes and to the floor, but Bret recovers and attacks Schultz as he follows him to the floor. From there, the two men brawl around ringside, eventually making their way down the aisle and out of sight.

NON-TITLE MATCH:
KERRY BROWN & KELLY KINISKI (w/ JR Foley) V. JIM NEIDHART & SCOTT HALL, JIP – Whalen talks about Scott Hall, saying this is the first we’ve seen of the young man here on Stampede TV, but he’s got a big reputation as one of the fastest-rising young stars in this sport. Hall and Neidhart work well together, tagging in and out to keep the Champions off their game. However, Hall’s inexperience shows, when he lets himself be lured into the Champions corner, and they viciously double-team him. The match ends when Brown drops Hall on his head with a Piledriver for the 1, 2, 3.
ED WHALEN interviews RANDY “MACHO MAN” SAVAGE in the ring. Whalen talks about Savage winning the Battle Royal on Boxing day at the Corral to earn his shot at Bret Hart and the North American title in today’s main event.
SAVAGE runs down Bret Hart, and says that he hopes Bret wasn’t beaten up too badly by Schultz earlier, as he doesn’t want Bret or the rest of the Hart family to have any excuses when he beats Bret and takes his title.
After Savage leaves the ring, Whalen interviews BOBBY DUNCUM.
DUNCUM talks about running the Masked Superstar out of Stampede Wrestling a few weeks ago, and says that he and Gerry Morrow will beat these Kiwis today.

BOBBY DUNCUM & GERRY MORROW V. THE KIWIS (Jonathan Boyd & Rip Morgan), JIP – We join the match at around the 7-minute mark. The Kiwis try to brawl with Duncum, and find out that isn’t going to get them anywhere, as Duncum can fight with the best of them. Once Morrow enters the fray, though, the Kiwis have more luck with him, and they take turns pummeling Morrow. Duncum tries to come in and help his partner several times, but this only distracts the referee, allowing the Kiwis to double-team Morrow.
Eventually Morrow is able to make the hot tag, and Duncum comes in and cleans house, knocking both Kiwis to the floor. As the match progresses, Duncum has the match well in hand, until referee Cedric Hathaway is knocked down. As Duncum brawls with Boyd, Morgan grabs the flagpole that they carry to the ring. When Duncum hits the Lariat on Boyd and covers him, Morgan comes off the top rope and drives the flagpole into the back of Duncum’s head. Morgan then rolls Duncum over, and puts Boyd on top of him.
Gerry Morrow is still down and out on the apron, and in no condition to help his partner. Referee Hathaway regains his senses, and counts Boyd’s pinfall on Duncum!
The Kiwis have picked up a win, although controversial, in their Stampede debut!

NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
BRET HART (Champion) V. RANDY “MACHO MAN” SAVAGE, JIP – We join the match about 10 minutes in. Savage has the Champion in a bad way, as he pummels Bret, not giving the Champion a chance to make any kind of a comeback. A few minutes later, Savage tosses Bret to the floor . . . and here comes Dr. D David Schultz!
Schultz kicks Bret in the head, then pulls him up by his hair and repeatedly slams Bret’s head into the ring apron before rolling him back inside. Savage continues to pummel the young Champion, and a moment later, feeling that he’s got Bret worn down, Savage goes to the top rope for the flying elbowdrop! Savage leaps from the turnbuckle . . . but Bret rolls out of the way!
Savage crashes to the mat, and Bret seems to get his second wind, as he delivers a kneedrop, then climbs to the second turnbuckle. As Savage gets to his feet, Bret connects with a crossbody, and gets a VERY close nearfall!
Both men are back up, Savage throws a haymaker, but Bret ducks it, then spins Savage around and delivers an atomic drop! From there, Bret pulls Savage up, whips him into the ropes . . . and locks on the Sleeperhold!!
Bret has the hold cinched in, in the middle of the ring, and Savage looks to be fading fast. But David Schultz, who’s still watching from ringside, jumps into the ring, bounces off the ropes, and delivers a double axehandle to the head of the Champion.
The referee immediately calls for the bell, giving Bret the win by disqualification.
Savage and Schultz gang up on Bret, as both men put the boots to the Champion.
Here comes DAVEY BOY SMITH!!
Smith hits the ring, and sends both Schultz and Savage through the ropes with a pair of dropkicks before checking on his friend.
WHALEN says we’re out of time for this week, and hypes next week’s show.
