ED WHALEN talks about Boxing Day at the Stampede Corral. The main event will see the rematch of the century, as NWA World champion Ric “Nature Boy” Flair returns to Calgary to defend the title against Bret Hart. The last time they met, back in October in Edmonton, Hart took Flair to the limit, and nearly left Edmonton as the new World Champion.
On Boxing Day, they’ll meet again, this time in a Best 2 out of 3 falls match, with a 90 minute time limit!
Pre-recorded comments from NWA champion RIC FLAIR:
FLAIR is standing by the back door of a black limo, wearing an expensive suit, and surrounded by beautiful women.
FLAIR: “Bret Hart, take a look at perfection, pal, take a look at the World’s champion! I’ve got the most beautiful women on earth with me, I’ve got champagne on ice waiting for me in this limo, and I’m going to start my victory celebration a little early! Bret Hart, you got lucky the last time, I’ll admit that, you caught me on an off-night. But when I come back to Stampede Wrestling on December 26, the outcome is already a forgone conclusion! Let me lay it out for you Hart. The Nature Boy is going to walk into the ring as the World’s champion. The Nature Boy is going to beat you and pin your shoulders to the mat for the 1, 2, 3. And the Nature Boy is going to leave Calgary, still the World’s champion. WOOO!”
WHALEN says that Ric Flair is obviously very confident, and as the reigning World Heavyweight champion, he has every right to be. But despite what Flair says, Whalen isn’t so sure that Bret simply caught Flair on an off-night. Bret Hart is one of the most talented young men in this sport, and he has all the tools to beat Ric Flair and leave the Stampede Corral as the new NWA champion!
WHALEN then says that, in addition to the 90 minute time limit, instead of the standard 60 minutes, the NWA has assigned a special referee for the match.
“DR. D” DAVID SCHULTZ walks into the shot.
WHALEN says that it’s been a while since we’ve seen Schultz in Stampede Wrestling, but the last time he was in the area, he joined forces with the Hart brothers to try and rid Stampede of JR Foley and his men.
SCHULTZ: “That’s right, the Doctor is back, baby! I’ve got a lot of respect for Bret Hart, I’ve stood side by side with the man in battle against Foley’s army, I’ve watched his back during his matches, and he’s watched mine. But, let me tell ya, Whalen, none of that means a thing now! I’m the special referee, baby, and I’m going to call this thing right down the middle! If either one of ‘em tries anything, they’ll have to answer to me!”
WHALEN talks a little more about the match as Schultz leaves the ringside area. Whalen says that he’s sure David Schultz will be an impartial referee and says that the fans will want to be at the Stampede Corral on Boxing Day for what promises to be the match of the century!

“MACHO MAN” RANDY SAVAGE V. KEITH HART, JIP – We join the match about 5 minutes in. Hart has the Macho Man on the mat, and he’s working on the arm, but Savage quickly turns the tables, fighting his way to his feet and stunning Hart with a flurry and hard right hands to the forehead. Savage immediately goes on the offensive, and shows his vicious side, giving Hart a brutal beating! In the end, Savage connects with a top-rope elbowdrop for the pinfall. That isn’t enough for the Macho Man, though, as he goes to the top rope and hits a second flying elbowdrop!
WHALEN climbs into the ring and interviews RANDY SAVAGE.
SAVAGE: “Ed Whalen, you see that jerk layin’ there? That’s one Hart brother down, now I’ve got my sights set on Bret Hart, yeah. Bret, you got something I want, brother, and that’s the North American title. I don’t care if I have to go through every other wrestler in Stampede, that title is going to be mine!”
After Savage leaves the ring, WHALEN talks about everything that’s gone down between Jim Neidhart and Bobby Duncum, and the masked team of the Super Destroyer and Masked Superstar. They’ve spilled a lot of blood, they’ve wrestled in taped fist matches, last week they wrestled in a hair vs hair tag team match, but today, it all comes to an end, as Duncum and the Masked Superstar go one on one in a loser leaves town match!
LOSER LEAVES TOWN MATCH:
BOBBY DUNCUM V. THE MASKED SUPERSTAR, JIP – We join the match at around the 7-minute mark. Duncum is bleeding, but he doesn’t let that slow him down. He continues to battle back, but the Superstar continues to enjoy the advantage in the match. Eventually Duncum takes control, he throws Superstar out of the ring, and pummels the masked man on the floor, repeatedly bashing him over the head with a chair! Duncum then slams the Superstar’s head into the ringpost, stunning the masked man.
Both men get back in the ring just in time to beat the referee’s count, and continue to brawl inside the ring. There’s next to no scientific wrestling in this one, it’s just a brawl, plain and simple.
In the end, Duncum has the Superstar in a bad way, and whips the masked man into the ropes, and connects with a vicious Lariat! The Superstar hits the mat like a ton of bricks, and Duncum bounces off the ropes and drops a knee across the forehead of the masked man for good measure. Duncum covers the Superstar, and that’s all she wrote for the masked man, as Duncum gets the 1, 2, 3!
Bobby Duncum has finally vanquished his foe, and the Superstar now has to leave Stampede Wrestling!

NORTH AMERICAN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
KERRY BROWN & KELLY KINISKI (Champions) (w/ JR Foley) V. BRET HART & LEO BURKE, JIP – We join the match at about the 10-minute mark. Whalen talks about last week’s show, where Leo and Bobby Burke challenged for the titles, but came up short. This week, Burke has asked Bret Hart to be his partner, and when we join the match, Burke and Hart have things well in hand. They dominate the next few minutes of the match, and get several very close nearfalls.
The ring announcer informs us that we’ve passed the 15-minute mark of the match, and Bret and Burke still have the advantage. Bret has Kiniski in a bad way . . . and he locks on the Sleeperhold! This is the hold that Bret’s used to beat some of the biggest stars in this sport, and it’s the move that brought him the North American title! They’re close to the ropes, but Bret’s back is to the ropes, so Kiniski can’t grab them.
At that point, seeing his team’s hold on the championship slipping, JR Foley jumps up onto the ring apron, and smashes Bret over the back of the head with his cane!
Bret let’s go of the Sleeperhold, and Foley tosses his cane to Brown, who comes into the ring and repeatedly hits Bret with it, eventually breaking it over Hart’s head! Leo Burke charges into the ring, but he gets several shots from the weapon as well, and with the cane broke in half, Kerry Brown digs one of the jagged ends into Burke’s head, bloodying him!
Referee Wayne Hart has called for the bell, and disqualified the champions, but Brown and Kiniski don’t care, they’re enjoying themselves, using Foley’s cane to bloody their opponents!
Kiniski kneels over Bret Hart, and using part of the cane, he presses it against Bret’s throat, choking him!
At that point, Jim Neidhart, Dynamite Kid and Davey Boy Smith hit the ring and chase the Masters of Disaster from the ring. They survey the carnage, and help Bret and Burke to their feet as we go to the final commercial break.
