LIVE FROM THE GRAND OLYMPIC AUDITORIUM IN LOS ANGELES, CA
CHRIS CRUISE opens the show at ringside, and welcomes his co-host, LEE MARSHALL.
CRUISE and MARSHALL welcome us to the historic Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, California for another edition of NWA Total Non-Stop Action!
This week . . . we’ll see the final Quarter Final match of the X Division title tournament, as Curry Man, the masked man from India, meets Juventud Guerrera . . . and, 8 of the top wrestlers in the World will meet in the Gauntlet for the Gold match, to crown a new NWA World TV Champion! We know the identity of 7 of the wrestlers, and the 8th will be revealed a little later on.
CRUISE talks about an incident that took place two weeks ago, when Public Enemy made their return to the NWA, and attacked World Tag Team Champions the Heavenly Bodies after a match.
VTR: Two Weeks Ago on NWA-TNA:
. . . After the match, Tom Prichard grabs the house mic from Gary Michael Cappetta, and say that they wanted competition, and the NWA gives them the Sheepherders?!?!
Del Ray says that they’re insulted that the NWA even thought the Sheepherders stood a chance of beating them.
At that point Ini Kamoze’s “Here Comes the Hotstepper” begins to play . . . and look who’s back!!!
After not being seen on television for the last three or four weeks, “FLYBOY” ROCCO ROCK and JOHNNY GRUNGE are back in the NWA!
Public Enemy storms the ring, and attack Prichard and Del Ray! After knocking the Champions to the mat, Rocco takes the mic, and says that if the Heavenly Bodies want competition, the Mack Daddies of violence are happy to oblige! Rock and Grunge then continue to pummel the Champions.
Grunge leaves the ring and clears off the timekeeper’s table. Rock then tosses Del Ray through the ropes, and Grunge lays him out across the table. Grunge holds Del Ray in place as Rocco Rock somersaults off the top rope . . . and puts Del Ray through the table!!!
Johnny Grunge climbs back into the ring, and picks up the house mic. He says that they’ve taken a few weeks off to get their priorities straight, but now they’re back and ready to kick some ass!
STAN LANE is backstage with the NWA World Tag Team Champions THE HEAVENLY BODIES. Lane talks about the incident two weeks ago involving Public Enemy, and then says that a title match has been signed between the two teams for next week’s show!
PRICHARD is beside himself, saying that this is CRAP, Public Enemy aren’t wrestlers, they’re nothing but a couple of thugs that the NWA pulled off the street! He says that there is no way that he and Del Ray should have to defend these titles against those two!
DEL RAY says that the the NWA is so desperate to get the titles off them, that they’ll put them in the ring with two thugs like Rocco Rock and Johnny Grunge. But Del Ray is convinced that good wrestlers can beat a couple of streetfighters any day, and he and Prichard are not only good wrestlers, they’re the BEST wrestlers! He says that PE can bring their tables, and chairs and garbage cans to the ring if they want, because it’s going to be a WRESTLING match, and when it’s all said and done, the Heavenly Bodies will out-wrestle the Public Enemy and retain the titles.
MATCH #1
X DIVISION TITLE TOURNAMENT QUARTER-FINAL MATCH:
JUVENTUD GUERRERA (#4 seed) VS. CURRY MAN (#5 seed). Juvy and Curry Man put on a great, fast-paced match for the fans. Juvy gets the win after sliding out of Curry’s grip as he went for the Spice Rack, and hit the Juvy Driver for the 1, 2, 3.
Juventud Guerrera wins, and takes the fourth semi-final spot in the X Division tournament!
CRUISE and MARSHALL talk about the X Division title tournament. The four semi-finalists will be THE GREAT SASUKE (#1 seed), JUSHIN “THUNDER” LIGER (#2 seed), JUVENTUD GUERRERA (#4 seed) and DEVON STORM (#6 seed). Next week, Great Sasuke will take on Devon Storm, and the following week, Jushin Liger will face Juventud Guerrera. The winners of those matches will meet for the X Division title at BattleBowl on December 28, live on PPV!
CRUISE then talks about the NWA World title situation.
VTR: Last Week on NWA-TNA:
. . . Douglas eventually takes control of the match, and catches Jarrett with the Pittsburgh Plunge for the 1, 2, 3!
After the match, as Douglas is getting his hand raised, NWA Executive VP DORY FUNK JR comes to the ring. Funk asks that his brother, TERRY FUNK, come out as well.
With Douglas, Funk and Jarrett in the ring, Dory says that, with Douglas’ win over Jarrett here tonight, he’s made a decision regarding the NWA World title match at BattleBowl.
He says that, as far as he is concerned, both Douglas AND Funk are the top contenders to the title, as Funk beat Douglas in the official #1 contenders match a few weeks back, but Douglas has also earned a shot at the title by pinning the Champion here tonight.
So, the match he has signed for BattleBowl will be for the NWA World title, and it will be Jeff Jarrett defending the title against Terry Funk and Shane Douglas in a 3-WAY MATCH!!!
Pre-recorded comments air from NWA Champion JEFF JARRETT, SHANE DOUGLAS and TERRY FUNK. All three men talk about the upcoming 3-Way match at BattleBowl. All three guarantee a victory, with Douglas stating that he has a secondary goal in the match, besides winning the World title, and that’s to end Terry Funk’s career!
We go to a pre-recorded NWA CONTROL CENTER segment with STAN LANE.
LANE says that the countdown to BATTLEBOWL has begun! We’re less than 3 weeks away from the NWA’s return to Pay-Per-View, with BattleBowl 1996, airing live on Saturday night, December 28.
LANE says that there will be five Lethal Lottery tag team matches, and the winning teams will take part in the 10-man, every man for himself BattleBowl Battle Royal!
Plus, we know that the finals of the X Division title tournament will take place at BattleBowl. The remaining four participants in the tournament are the Great Sasuke, Jushin Liger, Juventud Guerrera and Devon Storm. Two of those four will meet at BattleBowl to crown the first ever NWA X Division Champion!
And, as we heard on last week’s episode, the NWA World Heavyweight title will be decided in a 3-WAY DANCE between Champion Jeff Jarrett and two former Champions in Terry Funk and Shane Douglas!
BattleBowl is shaping up to be the biggest event in the history of the National Wrestling Alliance!
CRUISE and MARSHALL talk about the Gauntlet for the Gold match. Cruise runs down the participants . . . Chris Candido, Disco Inferno, Pierre Oulette, Rick Martel, Lord Norman Smiley, Cowboy Lance Cassidy, the Belfast Bruiser, and a special mystery participant!
MATCH #4
8-MAN GAUNTLET FOR THE GOLD
FOR THE VACANT NWA WORLD TV CHAMPIONSHIP:
Gary Michael Cappetta runs down the rules for the match. We’ll start with two wrestlers in the ring, and every 90 seconds, another wrestler will enter. Once we’ve got the 8 wrestlers in the ring, Battle Royal rules will be in effect, where the wrestlers have to be thrown over the top rope and to the floor. When we get down to the final two competitors, they’ll meet in a 1 on 1 match to crown the new NWA TV Champion.
RICK MARTEL and COWBOY LANCE CASSIDY are the first two in the ring. Cassidy, remembering that Team Canada buried him under the Canadian flag last week, tears into Martel, and pummels him for the whole 90 seconds.
At that point, Martel’s Team Canada stablemate, PIERRE OULETTE, hits the ring! Oulette attacks Cassidy from behind, and he and Martel give Cassidy a beating. Once the Team Canada members have Cassidy worn down, Martel sits back and lets Oulette pound away on Cassidy. By the time the next wrestler hits the ring, Cassidy has been busted open.
DISCO INFERNO is the next wrestler into the ring, and he tries to help Cassidy, but he quickly gets double-teamed by Oulette and Martel. Cassidy shakes off the cobwebs, and jumps on Martel, pummeling him while Oulette takes Disco Inferno apart.
90 seconds later, CHRIS CANDIDO hits the ring. He hits Cassidy, Oulette, Martel and Disco with clotheslines, but unfortunately for Candido, when the four wrestlers get to their feet . . . they all gang up on Candido! They pummel him, until Martel takes a cheapshot at Cassidy, and the wrestlers break off into pairs again.
LORD NORMAN SMILEY is the sixth wrestler into the ring, and he goes right after Cassidy, punching at the cut on Cassidy’s forehead, opening it up even more. While that’s going on, Candido is pummeling Disco Inferno, and drops him with a DDT, while Martel and Oulette both sit back and watch.
At that point, the mystery participant makes his way to the ring . . . it’s the most homicidal, the most genecidal, the most suicidal man in professional wrestling . . . it’s SABU!!! Sabu hits the ring, and starts throwing punches at everyone with reckless abandon. Sabu goes after Chris Candido, with Candido rolling out to the floor to try and get away, but Sabu follows him out, and they brawl on the floor.
THE BELFAST BRUISER is the final man to enter the ring, and now we’ve got Battle Royal rules in effect!
It doesn’t take long for COWBOY LANCE CASSIDY to be eliminated. Cassidy has lost a lot of blood, and he has to be helped to the back.
The remaining seven wrestlers all brawl in the ring, and it’s a minute or two before we see any more eliminations. At that point, Sabu hits a running clothesline that sends CHRIS CANDIDO over the top and to the floor! The momentum from the clothesline also carries Sabu over the top, but he lands on the apron and is able to roll back into the ring.
DISCO INFERNO is the next to go, as Norman Smiley throws him over. The Belfast Bruiser then tosses RICK MARTEL and we’re down to the final four!
LORD NORMAN SMILEY and THE BELFAST BRUISER square off, and brawl near the ropes. As they battle along the ropes, Pierre Oulette comes over . . . and dumps both Smiley and the Bruiser out!
Smiley and the Belfast Bruiser continue to brawl on the floor, where Bruiser gets the upper hand, and repeatedly bashes Smiley over the head with a chair! Smiley hightails it to the locker room, with the Bruiser hot on his heels.
We’re down to the final two . . . Sabu and Pierre Oulette! They’ll now face off in a one on one match for the vacant NWA TV title!
VS.MATCH #5
NWA WORLD TV CHAMPIONSHIP:
PIERRE OULETTE (w/ Coach D’Amore) VS. SABU. Sabu takes the fight to Oulette as soon as the bell sounds to start the one on one match. The action goes back and forth, as both men get in plenty of offence, and both get several nearfalls.
Late in the match, Sabu gets the upper hand, and after a ref bump, he hits Oulette with the Arabian Facebuster! Coach D’Amore tries to help Oulette, but Sabu drops him with a big right hand. As the referee comes to, Sabu hits a Moonsault and gets the 1, 2, 3!
SABU IS THE NEW NWA WORLD TV CHAMPION!!!
CRUISE and MARSHALL wrap things up, and then hype next week’s show, where we’ll see the first of two X Division title tournament semi final matches, between the Great Sasuke and Devon Storm, and Public Enemy will challenge the Heavenly Bodies for the NWA World Tag Team titles!
