TOTAL NON-STOP ACTION!
MONDAY, DECEMBER 2, 1996
BROADCAST ACROSS THE UNITED STATES ON TNT
LIVE FROM THE GRAND OLYMPIC AUDITORIUM IN LOS ANGELES, CA
CHRIS CRUISE opens the show at ringside, and welcomes his co-host, LEE MARSHALL.
CRUISE and MARSHALL welcome us to the historic Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, California for another edition of NWA Total Non-Stop Action!
This week . . . Pierre Oulette of Team Canada will be in singles action against Cowboy Lance Cassidy . . . Scoot Andrews makes his NWA-TNA debut . . . the X Division title tournament continues, as Hayabusa takes on Devon Storm . . . after Shane Douglas got involved in the Jeff Jarrett vs Terry Funk match last week, Jarrett has challenged Douglas to a match tonight. The title won’t be on the line, but the NWA Championship Committee has stated that if Douglas wins, he’ll earn a title shot. Plus, the Championship Committee will grant Terry Funk another shot at the title in the near future, due to the way his title match last week ended.
STAN LANE is backstage with “THE FRANCHISE” SHANE DOUGLAS and SENSATIONAL SHERRI. Douglas is his usual arrogant self, and promises a victory over Jeff Jarrett, who he calls nothing more than a “paper Champion”. Douglas says that the NWA title hasn’t been held by a true Champion since the last time he held it! He says that he’ll beat Jarrett tonight, go on to regain HIS belt, and then he’ll deal with that senile old piece of shit, Terry Funk!
Sherri says that the fans are looking at the next NWA World Heavyweight Champion!
MATCH #1
X DIVISION TITLE TOURNAMENT QUARTER-FINAL MATCH:
DEVON STORM (#6 seed) VS. HAYABUSA (#3 seed). Storm and Hayabusa give the fans an exciting, fast-paced match with plenty of high-flying and brawling. Hayabusa controls most of the match, but Storm turns the tables when he gets his knees up as Hayabusa goes for a Moonsault. From there, Storm takes over, and hits the Eye of the Storm for the 1, 2, 3!
After the match, Storm and Hayabusa shake hands. Storm then takes the house mic from Gary Michael Cappetta, and cuts a promo, saying he’s going to win the X Division title, and he’s going to do it for all the great NWA fans!
VTR – Two Weeks Ago On NWA Total Non-Stop Action:
. . . Vader whips Ace into the far corner, then charges at him with a splash, then backs up, and squashes Ace again! Ace slumps in the corner, and Vader repeatedly drives his knee into the head of the masked man. The referee moves in to try and check on Ace, but Vader just shoves him aside, and continues to pummel American Ace.
At this point, Ace can’t even defend himself, and the referee tries to get in between them again, to force Vader back out of the corner. Once again, Vader grabs the ref and shoves him aside. This time, the referee calls for the bell, disqualifying Vader! Vader doesn’t care, he drops the ref with a big right hand, and turns his attention back to American Ace.
Ace stands and throws some punches at Vader, but there’s nothing behind them at this point. Vader grabs Ace, and tosses him out of the corner. Madusa Miceli is in the ring, and she stands between Vader and the fallen Ace, but Harvey Whippleman grabs ahold of her, and locks on a Full Nelson, forcing Madusa to watch what’s about to happen.
Vader bounces off the ropes and splashes his fallen opponent, then picks Ace up . . . and hits the Powerbomb!
Vader pulls Ace up and sets him up for another Powerbomb, when finally security personnel, a group of referees, and several wrestlers hit the ring and are able to get Vader and Whippleman to leave.
Moments later, Ace is loaded onto a stretcher and taken from the ring.
CRUISE says that NWA Executive VP Dory Funk Jr had some comments last week, regarding the incident.
Footage is shown of Dory Funk announcing last week that the NWA was fining Vader $25,000 for assaulting the referee during that match. Funk also announced that, because American Ace would be missing some time due to the injuries suffered against Vader, the NWA Championship Committee had decided to vacate the NWA World TV title. Dory said there will be a Gauntlet for the Gold match on the Dec. 9 edition of NWA-TNA, featuring the top 8 contenders, to crown a new World TV Champion.
CRUISE and MARSHALL talk about Funk’s comments, and then talk about the Gauntlet for the Gold match set for next week to fill the TV title vacancy.
CRUISE quickly explains the Gauntlet for the Gold match . . . the match will start with two wrestlers in the ring, and every 90 seconds, another wrestler will enter the match. Once all 8 wrestlers are in the ring, it will basically become a battle royal, where a wrestler has to go over the top rope and to the floor to be eliminated. Once it gets down to the final two competitors, they will face off in a one-on-one match, with the winner being named the new NWA TV Champion!
MARSHALL then runs down the list of the 8 wrestlers that will compete in this match . . . Chris Candido, Disco Inferno, Pierre Oulette, Rick Martel, Lord Norman Smiley, Cowboy Lance Cassidy, the Belfast Bruiser, and a special mystery participant!
MATCH #2:
PIERRE OULETTE (w/ Coach D’Amore) VS. COWBOY LANCE CASSIDY (w/ Freddie Joe Floyd). Cassidy is looking for some payback after being buried under the Canadian flag following last week’s tag team match. Cassidy tears into Oulette as soon as the match starts, and enjoys an early advantage. D’Amore tries to interfere early, but Cassidy’s cousin, Freddie Joe Floyd, chases D’Amore to the locker room. Oulette eventually takes control of the match, and ends up hitting Cassidy with a Cradle Piledriver for the pinfall.
CRUISE and MARSHALL are joined at ringside by AMERICAN ACE and “MADE IN THE USA” MADUSA MICELI. Ace is wearing a suit, and his mask.
ACE talks about the concussion he sustained at the hands of Big Van Vader, and says that his doctor’s have told him that he should be fine to return to the ring in time for BattleBowl. He talks about Vader, and says that they will settle this once he returns to the ring.
ACE goes on to thank the fans for all the letters and well wishes while he’s been out, and says that they are the greatest fans in the World.
MATCH #3:
SCOOT ANDREWS VS. LITTLE GUIDO. Two youngsters make their NWA-TNA debuts here, as Scoot Andrews, known as the Black Nature Boy, and the Sicilian shooter Little Guido, square off.
We only get about 45 seconds into the match, before BIG VAN VADER storms the ring!
Vader attacks both men, hitting them with super-stiff punches and forearm smashes. The two men try to fight back, but Vader continues to pummel them. He whips Guido into a corner, and then squashes him with a running splash. Then he does the same to Andrews in another corner. Vader then drops both men with Powerbombs.
Vader demands that Gary Michael Cappetta bring a mic into the ring, which Cappetta quickly does. Vader cuts a promo on American Ace, saying he heard Ace out here moments ago, saying he would settle things with Vader. Vader challenges Ace to come out to the ring right now and he can have his chance to settle this.
A moment later, Ace shows up on the ramp, then charges to the ring!
Cruise and Marshall talk about the fact that Ace still hasn’t been cleared to return to the ring, and he’s risking serious injury!
Security personnel, referees and the entire babyface locker room hit the ring just as Ace goes after Vader. Before either man can get any shots in, they’re separated by the security, referees and other wrestlers. Vader knocks several of them down and breaks free, lunging at Ace, who’s still being held back. Vader gets in a big right hand to the temple of the masked man before he’s pulled away again. Ace is dazed, but he then slips free of the men holding him, and he jumps onto Vader, delivering several right hands to the head before he too is pulled away.
Finally the two men are separated and dragged back to the locker room.
We go to a pre-recorded NWA CONTROL CENTER segment with STAN LANE.
LANE says that the countdown to BATTLEBOWL has begun! We’re less than 4 weeks away from the NWA’s return to Pay-Per-View, with BattleBowl airing live on Saturday night, December 28.
LANE says that there will be five Lethal Lottery tag team matches, and the winning teams will take part in the 10-man, every man for himself BattleBowl Battle Royal!
Plus, we know that the finals of the X Division title tournament will take place at BattleBowl.
BattleBowl is shaping up to be the biggest event in the history of the National Wrestling Alliance!
MATCH #4
NON-TITLE MATCH:
JEFF JARRETT (w/ Capt. Lou Albano) VS. “THE FRANCHISE” SHANE DOUGLAS (w/ Sensational Sherri). We’ve got a Battle of the Bullies here! This match came about after a miscommunication caused Douglas to collide with Jarrett, and Jarrett’s guitar, two weeks ago as Douglas battled Terry Funk in a #1 contenders match. This match goes back and forth for several minutes, but Douglas eventually takes control of the match, and catches Jarrett with the Pittsburgh Plunge for the 1, 2, 3!
After the match, as Douglas is getting his hand raised, NWA Executive VP DORY FUNK JR comes to the ring. Funk asks that his brother, TERRY FUNK, come out as well.
With Douglas, Funk and Jarrett in the ring, Dory says that, with Douglas’ win over Jarrett here tonight, he’s made a decision regarding the NWA World title match at BattleBowl.
He says that, as far as he is concerned, both Douglas AND Funk are the top contenders to the title, as Funk beat Douglas in the official #1 contenders match a few weeks back, but Douglas has also earned a shot at the title by pinning the Champion here tonight.
So, the match he has signed for BattleBowl will be for the NWA World title, and it will be Jeff Jarrett defending the title against Terry Funk and Shane Douglas in a 3-WAY MATCH!!!
CRUISE and MARSHALL wrap things up. They talk about what we just heard, that the NWA World title will be defended at BattleBowl in a 3-way match!
Then they hype next week’s show, which will see the last quarter-final match of the X Division title tournament, between Curry Man and Juventud Guerrera. Plus, we’ll see 8 of the top wrestlers in the world compete in the Gauntlet for the Gold match to crown a new NWA World TV Champion!
