Coming off a big return at Halloween Havoc, Rick and Scott Steiner kept the momentum rolling into the month of November. It was only a matter of time before the current bulls in these woods, Big Bubba Rogers and The Dirty White Boy, Southern Justice. Rick Steiner scored a big pinfall on Anthony after a huge Steinerliner on Nitro, leading to the Steiners first WCW World Tag Title Shot in nearly a year in the main event of Clash of Champions: Thanksgiving Thunder to be held at the Mecca in Milwaukee, a building that has been good to the Steiners through the years.
That damn Colonel Robert E. Lee Parker always has an ace up his sleeve though, and has introduced a wild card to the table…
Citing the personal tension rising between himself and Dusty Rhodes, due his boys continuous embarrassment of the so-called American Dream, Mr. Rhodes has been resorting to physical violence, and he knows that the Col. has long since given up his pugilistic endeavors. Meng certainly made his presence felt in his return to Nitro, and as Beautiful Bobby continued to pick up television victories, the Stud Stable have zeroed in on Diamond Dallas Page and that World Television Title. The quiet man from Huntsville says that he has never been one to say too much, but he wants Dallas Page to know that he took it quite personal when Page started talking about wanting to be the best TV Champ of all-time, calls out Tully Blanchard and started roll calling past champs. He never mentioned Eaton, and has ducked Bobby’s challenges. Dusty Rhodes found Parker’s need for guard amusing, but says that he has known Bobby Eaton for over a decade and that he has never seen him this way, and the Dream believes that there will be a new Television Champion at Thanksgiving Thunder…
The reigning, defending Generation neXt Division Champion and Light Heavyweight Champion has been on a World Tour in the last couple of weeks, and JJ Dillon has even referred to ‘Lone Wolf’ Dean Malenko as Professional Wrestling’s Iron Man! In a recent tour of Europe, Malenko defeated the German Catch Wrestling Mid Heavyweight Champion in a best of 3 main event series, 3 to 0, and after some North American obligations, would be flying to Mexico City where he will be taking on the Universal Wrestling Association’s Light Heavyweight Champion in a 2 out of 3 Falls main event. Dean Malenko is truly an elite professional wrestler, he is carried the Generation Next label well, but his time is now.
JJ Dillon is committed to WCW’s foreign talent exchanges, and wants World Championship Wrestling to provide the platform for the greatest wrestling action on the planet. That includes not only the singles competition; it also includes tag-teams. That includes heavyweights, and also includes other weight classes. With that in mind, JJ Dillon, Magnum T.A., and the Championship Committee want to roll out the welcome mat to them all with an all-encompassing, CRUISERWEIGHT DIVISION. Set at 225 lbs. it includes Junior, Mid, Light, and Welterweights. Dean Malenko has clearly established himself across all of these divisions. There is another champion he has not defeated. This man is the reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, and for those who don’t know, the International Wrestling Grand Prix titles out of Japan are greatly respected across the wrestling world. This man has hired an agent, and wants to make waves in the United States…
Mr. Onoo has negotiated a contract to bring Mr. Ohtani to the United States, and Magnum T.A. can’t think of a better opponent for Dean Malenko at Thanksgiving Thunder to crown the first ever WCW WORLD CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPION
Rey Mysterio, Christian Cage, and Lenny Lane have continued to take the fight to Psychosis, La Parka, and El Diablo. In what appeared to be sacrificing a teammate, Psychosis and La Parka left Diablo in a match on Nitro only to return with the Insano Luchadore Super Crazy by their side to turn the tide of this raging battle. Crazy lived up to his name in his very first appearance on Nitro hitting a Super Springboard Asai Moonsault from the apron to the top rope and some 3 feet past the mats up the aisle way smashed Lenny Lane, landed on his feet basement dropkicked Christian in the knee enabling Psychosis to hit a Guillotine legdrop off the guard rail on the floor! Then the Chairman of WCW, La Parka smashed his trusty wooden folding chair across Rey, Jr. and the Magnificent Rudo Trio celebrated their success.
Speaking of incoming talent, Don ‘The Natural’ Callous, made his way back to Nitro saying that he has made the signing of the century. He has been gone for a few weeks tying up loose ends in Los Angeles, CA and that he is bringing back with him utter destruction, devastation, and elimination to all! It was time to shake things up in WCW, and he knows exactly how to do that, “by taking WCW to the Extreme!” The following week, The Nasty Boys, returned to Nitro following their heart wrenching loss to Southern Justice in their bid to take the Unified Tag Team Championship of the World. They aren’t in a very good mood, and the face of Don Callous really gets under their skin. Callous says he is unleashing a new team on WCW, well if they want to make an impact, how bout they take on the Nasty Boys at the Clash!? Callous appeared on the ramp laughing his ass off, and says that the Nasty Boys will get exactly what they asked for and for their insolence he will not rest until they have been entirely eliminated.
Coming off a victory at Halloween Havoc, it is easy to say that Sting, and especially Ric Flair were flying high. His emotional, over-a-year long rivalry with Curt Hennig has been building since his return to WCW in September, and Ric Flair has not forgotten the “exile” that Hennig sent him on following last Halloween Havoc. After wins in consecutive Nitro main events over Buff Bagwell and then Scott Norton, Ric Flair has finally been granted his one-on-one shot at Curt Hennig’s Heavyweight Championship of the World at Starrcade 96: Homecoming. The official contract signing is to be held at Clash of Champions: Thanksgiving Thunder from the Mecca in Milwaukee.
One man not excited about Sting’s new found friendship with the Nature Boy is Lex Luger. Lex says that he should have been Sting’s partner at Halloween Havoc because not only can Sting trust him, but that together they are the best Tag Team in the World. Lex says that he knows the Steiners are the current #1 Contenders to the World Tag Team Titles, but that he was officially throwing him and Sting’s name into Contendership, and that he has no doubt, he and Sting will end up winning the World Tag Team Championship at Starrcade in Greensboro.
One team that did not take too kindly to the insinuations of Mr. Luger were for champions, the tag team of 1996, Booker T. and Stevie Ray, Harlem Heat. Stevie Ray is busy calling Lex a “fruity booty” which Booker T. found utterly hilarious. One thing Book didn’t find so hilarious was Luger assuming that he and Sting will get first crack at whoever leaves the Clash with the tag titles. Harlem Heat are the ones that unified the WCW and International Tag Team titles and made WCW’s Unified World Tag Titles the most important tag team championship on the planet, and if anyone deserves to get a shot at the champs at WCW’s biggest event, it’s Harlem Heat, sucka. With no backup, Luger decided that discretion was the better part of valor, but issued a challenge to Booker T., to meet him one-on-one at the Clash, and Booker enthusiastically accepted!
