STAMPEDE WRESTLING
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 1984
1pm - 2pm
TAPED THE PREVIOUS NIGHT AT THE VICTORIA PAVILION IN CALGARY, ALBERTA
ED WHALEN opens the show at ringside and welcomes us to STAMPEDE WRESTLING!
WHALEN runs down some of the matches we’ll see this week, including the main event, a World Mid-Heavyweight title match between new Champion “Exotic” Adrian Street and the Dynamite Kid!
Plus, we’ll see what many Stampede fans consider to be a “dream team” in this area, Davey Boy Smith teaming up with the reigning North American Champion Bret Hart! They’ll face the Masters of Disaster, Kerry Brown and Kelly Kiniski.
And, the Masked Superstar and Super Destroyer take on Bobby Duncum and Jim Neidhart in a Taped Fist match, where all four wrestlers will have their fists taped.
MR. HITO V. HUBERT GALLANT, JIP – During the match, Whalen talks about how both men are very accomplished Mid-Heavyweight wrestlers, despite the fact that when most people think of the top Mid-Heavyweights, these two men don’t even cross their minds. Gallant tries to keep the match on the mat, and works several submission holds to wear Hito down. Hito, on the other hand, goes to the air every chance he gets, hitting several dropkicks, as as well as some high-risk moves from the top rope. In the end, Hito gets the win after connecting with a bodypress from the top rope for the 1, 2, 3.

WHALEN interviews BEN BASSARAB in the ring. Bassarab is not in a good mood, and says that ever since he came to Stampede Wrestling, he’s been consistenly overlooked. He says that he’s had fans all across western Canada tell him how great they think he is, but the Stampede promoters just don’t recognize his talent, they keep wasting him in opening matches. Bassarab pleads with the matchmakers to put him in some bigger matches, so he can show everyone what he’s truly capable of.
BRUCE HART V. GREAT GAMA SINGH, JIP – The fans are treated to a thrilling match between these two, who Whalen puts over as two of the top contenders to the World Mid-Heavyweight title. Bruce gets the win by submission with the Hart Breaker, a reverse figure-4 leglock.

WHALEN takes a moment to talk about the big Boxing Day show which will take place on December 26 at Calgary’s Stampede Corral. NWA Champion Ric Flair will return to Calgary for that show, he’ll defend the title in a rematch with Bret Hart, but this time it will be a Best 2 out of 3 Falls match, with a special guest referee! The identity of the referee, as well as the other matches on the card, will be revealed in the coming weeks.
VTR: The Masked Superstar bloodying Bobby Duncum a few weeks back on Stampede Wrestling.
WHALEN says that Duncum and Neidhart challenged the Superstar and Super Destroyer to a taped fist match, and it’s coming up right now!
TAPED FIST MATCH:
BOBBY DUNCUM & JIM NEIDHART V. THE MASKED SUPERSTAR & SUPER DESTROYER, JIP – There’s nothing pretty about this one, as these two teams simply pound away on each other with the sole purpose of eliminating the other team! We join the match about 12 minutes in. Neidhart has been busted open, but it doesn’t seem to slow him down. The end comes when, as Neidhart and the Masked Superstar brawl on the floor, Bobby Duncum nails the Super Destroyer with a vicious Lariat, and covers him for the 1, 2, 3!
Neidhart and Superstar continue to brawl on the floor, even after the bell rings. Superstar gets the upper hand, and rams Neidhart, head-first, into the ringpost, knocking him senseless. Superstar then jumps into the ring and attacks Duncum from behind. Superstar knocks Duncum to the mat, then kneels over him and repeatedly punches Duncum in the head with his taped fists, even grinding his knuckles into Duncum’s forehead! By the time several referees are able to pull the Superstar off, Duncum is a bloody mess!
With Neidhart down and out on the floor, and Duncum lying in a pool of blood in the ring, the Superstar and Super D stop by Ed Whalen at ringside. Superstar tells Whalen that Duncum and Neidhart may have won this battle, but as we can see, the war is far from over!

WHALEN interviews North American Champion BRET HART and the North American Tag Team Champions DAVEY BOY SMITH and DYNAMITE KID in the ring.
VTR – The final moments of the Hart – Bad News Allen Cage match from last week’s show.
BRET talks about the match, and says that Bad News Allen is, hands down, one of, if not THE, toughest man he’s ever faced! He says that there were times when he wasn’t sure he could continue in that cage match, but it was the cheers of these great Stampede fans that kept him going! Bret thanks them for their support, and hopes they’ll come out to the Stampede Corral on Boxing Day, and support him in his quest to become Champion of the World.
DAVEY BOY talks about teaming with Bret today against Kerry Brown and Kelly Kiniski. He says Bret is a great wrestler, and it’s an honour to team with him. He then wishes Dynamite luck in his match with Adrian Street in the main event, and says that when the show is over, he and Dynamite will be in possession of the NA Tag titles AND the World Mid-Heavyweight title!
DYNAMITE says Davey Boy is absolutely right, he’s going to beat Adrian Street tonight, and win the World Mid-Heavyweight title.
BRET HART & DAVEY BOY SMITH V. KERRY BROWN & KELLY KINISKI (w/ JR Foley), JIP – Hart and Smith try to keep the match a scientific contest, but when Brown and Kiniski turn it into a brawl, Hart and Davey Boy show that they can hold their own in a brawl as well!
In the end, it’s JR Foley who makes the difference. As Bret has Kiniski locked in the Sleeperhold, Foley hands his cane to Kerry Brown, then Foley gets up on the apron and distracts the referee, while Brown comes in and smashes Bret over the back of the head with the cane! Hart lets go of the Sleeperhold, and Kiniski, groggy from the hold, is able to cover Bret for the 1, 2, 3!
The Masters of Disaster have stolen a victory from Bret Hart and Davey Boy Smith!

WHALEN says that, during the break, he was informed that Kerry Brown and Kelly Kiniski will challenge Davey Boy Smith and the Dynamite Kid for the North American Tag Team titles next week!
Now it’s time for the main event, as Dynamite Kid, one of the most exciting young wrestlers in the World today, challenges World Mid-Heavyweight Champ Adrian Street.
WORLD MID-HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
“EXOTIC” ADRIAN STREET (Champ) V. DYNAMITE KID, JIP – When we join the match, Street is in control. He delivers a vicious European uppercut that puts Dynamite on the mat. Street goes to the top, but Dynamite rolls over to the ropes. Street moves in, and starts choking DK, breaking each time at the count of 4 to avoid a disqualification. A moment later, the ring announcer informs us that 15 minutes have elapsed of this 20-minute time limit. Street finally stops choking DK, and Dynamite rolls out to the floor to shake off the cobwebs. Street follows him out and the two brawl on the floor for a moment before Street rolls the challenger back into the ring.
As Street climbs up on the apron to get back into the ring, DK drives a knee into Street’s gut, then hits a standing dropkick that sends Street to the floor. Dynamite then runs the ropes . . . and dives through the ropes onto Street on the floor!! Dynamite slams Street’s head into the guardrail, then rolls him back into the ring.
Back inside, Dynamite has the upper hand when the ring announcer informs us that there is only 1 minute remaining in the time limit!
Dynamite kicks it up a notch, hitting a standing dropkick that gets 2. He then runs the ropes and hits a crossbody, and that gets 2. DK drops Street with a piledriver, then goes to the top rope . . . diving headbutt!! Dynamite covers the Champion.
ONE . . . TWO . . . the bell rings!
Dynamite thinks he’s won it, but after talking with the timekeeper, the referee says no, the time limit expired. The match is a draw!
WHALEN says we’re out of time for this week, and talks about next week’s show, which will feature Kerry Brown and Kelly Kiniski challenging Davey Boy Smith and Dynamite Kid for the North American Tag Team titles!
