STAMPEDE WRESTLING
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 1984
1pm - 2pm
TAPED THE PREVIOUS NIGHT AT THE VICTORIA PAVILION IN CALGARY, ALBERTA
ED WHALEN opens the show at ringside and welcomes us to STAMPEDE WRESTLING!
WHALEN runs down some of the matches we’ll see this week, including the HUGE main event, as Bret Hart defends the North American title in a Steel Cage match against the most dangerous man in wrestling today, Bad News Allen!
WHALEN is joined at ringside by the North American Champ BRET HART.
Several clips are shown, highlighting the feud between Bret and Bad News Allen. We see footage of Bret beating Allen for the North American title after JR Foley’s interference backfired. Then we see various clips of Allen assaulting the young Champion, leaving him a bloody mess.
Bret and Whalen talk about the match later on, and Bret says that all week, his friends and family have tried to talk him out of the match, saying that it’s one thing to wrestle Allen in a match, but getting into a cage with a man like that, is just asking for trouble. Bret says that he’s never been one to back down from a fight, and he knows there’s a good chance that his career could end in this match, but he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if he backed out of this match, because then he’d just be admitting to himself, and everyone else, that he couldn’t beat Allen.
Whalen wishes him luck, and says that when we come back from the break, we’ll have our first match, as newcomer Makhan Singh takes on Mr. Hito!

MAKHAN SINGH (w/ Gama Singh) V. MR. HITO. We get the full match here, as it only lasts about 4 minutes. Hito does a good job of sticking and moving early on, but once the 401 lb. Singh gets ahold of him, it’s all downhill for Hito. The match ends when Singh whips Hito into the ropes, then scoops him up, and falls forward, comign down with all his weight on top of Hito! Singh gets the 1, 2, 3, which is only a formality after that brutal slam.
ED WHALEN talks about some of the other matches that will take place on this week’s show, including Davey Boy Smith challenging new World Mid-Heavyweight Champion Adrian Street for the title, and Leo Burke facing his old nemesis from the Maritimes, Hubert Gallant.
WHALEN climbs into the ring and is joined by BOBBY DUNCUM and JIM NEIDHART. Both Duncum and Neidhart have their fists taped.
Duncum talks about what happened last week, where Bobby Heenan and the Masked Superstar tied him up in the ropes, and Superstar busted him up with a taped fist. He says that it took a half-dozen stitches to close the cut on his head after that. Duncum then says that what Superstar doesn’t realize is that Duncum is the KING of the taped fist match, and challenges Superstar and Super Destroyer to face him and Neidhart next week in a taped fist match!
Neidhart says that next week, it’s the end of the line for the Superstar and Super Destroyer!

LEO BURKE V. HUBERT GALLANT, JIP – During the match, Whalen talks about how these two were once best friends and tag team partners in the Maritimes, but Gallant turned his back on Burke, and they’ve been involved in a bitter feud since then. We see some brawling, and plenty of scientific wrestling from these two, and in the end, Burke gets the win after connecting with a running kneelift.
WHALEN interviews BOBBY HEENAN, THE MASKED SUPERSTAR and THE SUPER DESTROYER in the ring. Heenan says his men accept Duncum’s challenge for a Taped Fist match on next week’s show, but warns Duncum that what happened to him last week will pale in comparison to what the Superstar and Super Destroyer do to him and Neidhart next week!

After the break, WHALEN interviews BAD NEWS ALLEN in the ring. Allen gloats about the pain and suffering he’s caused Bret Hart over the past several weeks, and says that there’s a silver lining for Bret, because after Allen ends Bret’s career later today, Bret can live out the rest of his days doing something else, where he won’t have worry about Bad News Allen kicking his butt anymore.
WORLD MID-HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
“EXOTIC” ADRIAN STREET (Champ) V. DAVEY BOY SMITH, JIP – We join the match about 15 minutes in. Davey Boy Smith has the upper hand, and sends Street out of the ring with a dropkick. Street takes a moment to clear the cobwebs on the floor, then throws up his hands, as if to say “forget this” and he starts walking towards the locker room! Davey Boy isn’t about to let Street cheat him out of the title, and he charges after him. The two brawl in the aisle for a moment, before making their way back to the ring, where Smith continues to work Street over.
As the ring announcer informs us that 25 minutes have elapsed in the match, and we’re 5 minutes away from the time limit, Street is able to turn the tables. He jabs a thumb in Davey Boy’s eye, stopping Smith dead in his tracks. Street takes over, and hits several high-risk moves, including a missile dropkick from the top rope. Street goes to the top once again, and after waiting for Smith to get to his feet, Street connects with a crossbody from the top rope for the 1, 2, 3!

WHALEN welcomes us back after the break, and says that it’s time for the main event, the match that everyone’s been waiting for, as Bret Hart faces Bad News Allen in a steel cage!!
NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP
STEEL CAGE MATCH:
BRET HART (Champ) V. BAD NEWS ALLEN, JIP – We join the match at the 12-minute mark. Both men are bleeding, though Bret looks like he’s taken the majority of the punishment so far. Bret is bleeding heavily, and seems to be having a hard time even staying up on his feet, as Allen continues to pummel him. Allen takes a moment to wipe some blood out of his eyes, and seeing it on his hand brings a crazed look and a smile to the face of the challenger and Ed Whalen points out that Allen actually seems to be enjoying this!
Bret makes a comeback, firing off several hard rights to the head of the challenger, but Allen puts a stop to that, driving a knee into Bret’s midsection. From there, Allen whips Bret into the corner, and follows him in with a vicious clothesline. Allen then starts raking Bret’s face against the wire cage, and then tosses the Champion to the mat.
With Bret down and out, Allen turns his attention to the fans, and starts taunting them, yelling out that he’s going to cripple their hero!
Bret staggers back to his feet while Allen is still jawing with the fans, and charges at Allen, knocking him into the corner. Bret starts throwing wild rights and lefts as Allen tries to cover up. Bret hiptosses the challenger out of the corner, then goes to the second turnbuckle and, as Allen gets back to his feet, Bret connects with a diving shoulderblock.
Bret pulls Allen up . . . and goes for the Sleeperhold!! Allen, thinking quickly, drops to his knees, driving the top of his head into Bret’s jaw, and breaking the hold. Allen bounces off the ropes and delivers a kneedrop to the head of the Champion, then he straddles Bret, and starts pummeling Bret with rights and lefts.
On commentary, Ed Whalen says that the referee should consider stopping this, as Bret is a bloody mess, and he’s having a hard time even defending himself as Allen continues to pummel him!
Bret may be down, but he’s not out yet. He seems to get a second wind, and flips Allen over, so that Bret’s now on top of the challenger, and starts punching Allen repeatedly. Bret pulls Allen up, and whips him into the ropes, hitting a picture-perfect standing dropkick as Allen rebounds off the ropes. Bad News is back to his feet quickly, and charges at Bret with a clothesline, but Bret ducks it, and hits a clothesline of his own! Allen rolls towards the ropes, but Bret is right on him, he pulls Allen up, and rakes Allen’s face back and forth against the cage!
At this point, both men are bleeding profusely, and Allen now looks wobbly, as Bret hits him with a flurry of rights and lefts, then puts Allen on the mat with a forearm to the head.
From there, Bret pulls Allen up . . . and locks on the Sleeperhold! This time, Allen isn’t able to defend against the hold, and Bret cinches it in, right in the middle of the ring!
Allen tries to break free, but the lights are going out, and he drops to one knee, then both knees.
Referee Cedric Hathaway checks Allen’s arm, and it falls. He raises it agan, and it falls. He lifts Allen’s arm a third time . . . and it falls!
Bad News Allen is out, and Bret Hart has overcome the odds and won this violent, bloody Steel Cage match!
WHALEN says we’re out of time for this week, and quickly wraps things up before hyping next week’s show, which will feature Bobby Duncum and Jim Neidhart taking on the Masked Superstar and the Super Destroyer in a Taped Fist match!
