AWA ALL STAR WRESTLING
Taped November2, 1984 to air across the territory on November 9, 1984 at the studios of KMSP TV in Minneapolis. Rod Trongard on commentary and Ken Resnick as ring announcer and interviewer.
After the opening, we cut to Ken Reanick and Rod Trongard in front of the AWA logo.
RESNICK: We have a great program for you this week, fans. We have the Fabulous One in action as well as Steve O, the Samoans, and the debut of the Russian , Nikolai Volkoff. Butch Reed & Tony Atlas, a team that is at the top of the list of contenders for the Road Warriors’ world tag team titles, will be in action and what a main event, Rod Trongard!
TRONGARD: One of the all time greats, the British star, Billy Robinson will wrestle a young man who is probably the hottest wrestler in the AWA today, Curt Hennig! Paul Ellering, manager of the Legion of Doom, is here!
ELLERING: Last week, the Legion of Doom’s good money was thrown after bad! Korchenko, Smirnoff, and Ruuk failed miserably! Adnan, I hope for your sake that your Russian performs more admirably than my two hirelings did last week! Billy Robinson, I know all about your training in the snake pit at Wigan! I know full well that you have been trained to break bones a dozen different ways! If you can put Curt Hennig out of action, I promise you that you will be well compensated, incredibly well! (Steve Williams and the Barbarian walk into the picture).
WILLIAMS: C’mon, Paul, let me take care of that punk! Why waste your money on that has been?
ELLERING: Dr. Death, it’s a matter of looking at things from the historical perspective! If the southern troops had been cut down at Fort Sumter, the bloodshed of Gettysburg would have likely never occurred! If we can clear the trash off the road, it will clear the Legion of Doom’s highway to the World Title and AWA domination!

ADNAN: Rick Martel! This is the man who will destroy you and take your title! He is not a sportsman like Tatsumi Fujinami…HE IS A KILLER! He wants to not only take your belt, he wants to break your back!
VOLKOFF: Martel, I want your belt! Comrade Zhukov has scouted you and has told me everything I need to know to beat you! The Soviet way is unstoppable and unbeatable!

ATLAS: That’s right, number one contenders! Road Warriors, Ellering, we keep getting closer and closer to winning the belts!
REED: What we need brother, is a match where Ellering can’t stick his nose in and they can’t go out of the ring and turn it into a double countout! A cage match! We keep asking Lord Blears for a cage match, but they keep turning us down! We will find a way to get them in the cage! And when we do, the belts are coming to us!
Curt Hennig comes out!
HENNIG: Guys, I’m behind you 100% and if Dad and I can help you in any way, you just have to ask! Ellering, the Hennigs, Butch Reed, Tony Atlas, Rick Martel, Steve O, Pez Whatley…..none of us are going anywhere! The Legion Of Doom might not make it to 1985! You keep setting up roadblocks. Well, I plan on running through all of them! Billy Robinson, if you want to side with scum like that, then you aren’t the man I thought you were!

Steve O vs. Carl Fergi: Fergi’s rulebreaking tactics give the popluar Steve O some trouble, but Steve manages to pull out the win with a flying bodypress off of the top rope.

A music video set to “You Dropped A Bomb On Me” by The Gap band. The video features “Fabulous One” Steve Keirn in a swimming pool while Baby Doll sunbathes. Keirn and baby Doll working out in the gym. Getting ready for a night on the town and riding a limo. Then, as they are dancing in a club, clips from Keirn matches are inserted, mostly from Keirn’s last TV match with Jack Brisco.
RESNICK: I’m joined by Jack Brisco at this time. You have really had your problems with the Fabulous One and Baby Doll…
BRISCO: Steve Keirn was my friend for ten years and he knows that if there is one thing that my brother Gerald and me hate it’s when a man hits a woman! I’d rather die than hit a woman even a woman like Baby Doll! There is more than one way to skin a cat, even a hellcat like Baby Doll! (“Everybody Wants You” plays in the background)I’ve got a plan for Keirn and that woman and it won’t be long before they find out what that plan is!
”Fabulous One” Steve Keirn vs. Eric Froelich:Keirn struts and psotures a lot, but still manages an impressive win, pinning his barefoot opponent after a piledriver while Baby Doll cheers.

The Samoans (Afa&Sika) vs. Frankie Defalco & Jay “The Alaskan” York:Afa & Sika are dominant here. Nick Bockwinkel & Larry Zybysko join Resnick in the interview area during the bout and distract the Samoans a bit. It doesn’t affect the outcome as Sika pins Defalco after a Samoan drop. After the win, Afa & Sika gesture for Bockwinkel & Zybysko to come into the ring!
ZYBYSKO: No, let’s save it for the paying customers!
BOCKWINKEL: Well said, Larry! On Thanksgiving night at the St. Paul Civic Center, You and I will team with our colleague Jesse Barr to wrestle these two and their nephew in a six man elimination match. That’s one of the reason that we are here: to scout and try to determine the weak link of the Samoans. (cut briefly to the ring where Afa is holding the ropes open and SIka is gesturing for Zybyzko and Bockwinkel) You know, Larry, there are three things that differentiate man from the lower animals and I’m not sure that Afa & Sika have even one of those attributes!
AFA & SIKA COME DOWN AND GET IN BOCKWINKEL’s FACE! JESSE BARR JOINS HIS COHORTS!
AFA: We are sick and tired of you insulting us and our Polynesian heritage! We’ve signed a match with you three and on Thanksgiving night, we’ll shut your mouths!
ZYBYSKO: You think you can do what Bruno Sammartino couldn’t do? What Verne Gagne couldn’t do? We’re a wrestling machine! The three of us are too smart, too skilled, and just plain better than you are!
SIKA: We’ll see bigmouth, we’ll see!
RESNICK: We have to go to a break! We’ll try to restore order while we are gone!

Curt Hennig vs. Billy Robinson: On commentary, Trongard really works hard to get Robinson’s credentials across and make Hennig out as a massive underdog. Paul Ellering comes to ringside. Ellering serves a distraction to Hennig, but Robinson ignores him and dominates the bout. Hennig manages to turn the tide by reversing a Robinson suplex and then hitting the top rope dropkick to finish the great English grappler! Hennig wins and Ellering is not happy! Ellering climbs in the ring, yelling and gesturing at Robinson! Ellering slaps Robinson! Billy nails Ellering with a big forearm that knocks the manager out of the ring! Ellering is waving someone in! STEVE “DR. DEATH” WILLIAMS RUNS IN AND ATTACKS ROBINSON! Williams is pounding away on Robinson! Now, Dr. Death gets him up……OKLAHOMA STAMPEDE! The studio shook on that one! Now, the Barbarian and Ellering enter the ring and the three of them put the boots to Robinson! Curt Henning, Larry Hennig, Butch Reed, & Tony atlas make the save, but Billy Robinson has taken quite a pounding!
