11/6/96 - Viking Hall Philadelphia, PA
"Mean"Gene Okerlund and "The Genius" Lanny Poffo welcome us to another exciting edition of Eastern Championship Wrestling joining you live tonight from Viking Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania! They then briefly recap last week's show including "Macho Man" Randy Savage's in-ring return defeating Brian Christopher, William Regal attacking Eddie Guerrero after his match, the brutal Tag-Team match between The Dark Circle and The Circus of Doom which ended in a No Contest; and finally # 1 Contender "The Long Island Loud-Mouth" Chris Jericho's impersonation of ECW CHamp "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson which earned Jericho a beating at the hands of ol' Double A. Lanny found Chris' antics rather amusing. Okerlund knew he would.
They then run down tonight's huge card which will see the ECW Tag-Team Champions Dustin Rhodes and Tommy Dreamer, the ECW Light Heavyweight Champion Dean Malenko; and the ECW Champ "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson all in non-Title action! Also on the card "The Soul Stealer" Papa Shango will face his former ally "The Ring Master" Matt Borne! All that and more! Stay tuned!
Joel Gertner then annouces the first match of the night.
Match: Alex Porteau vs. Ace Darling
Referee: S.D. Jones
Alex Porteau who has "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase with him and Ace Darling start the show off with a solid back and forth contest. Ace hits a bridged German suplex midway through getting a two count; but in the end Potrau picks up the win with a slingshot suplex.
During the match we're shown a replay of Weekend Warriors this past Saturday where "The Canadian Crippler" attacked Randy Savage after his match. After a savage beatdown, Benoit looked to be on his way to handing Randy's valet "Hot Stuff" Debbie Combs one as well when "The All-American" Ron Simmons made the save! They then inform us that all three men were ordered by ECW President Eric Bischoff not to show up at the arena tonight, wanting them to take a week to cool off.
COMMERCIAL BREAK
After the break we're taken backstage where Correspondent Terri Runnels is talking with # 1 Contender "The Long Island Loud-Mouth" Chris Jericho about his antics here last week. He honestly doesn't know what ECW Champ Arn Anderson's problem is! He might be as tough as the come, but man can the guy not take a joke! Okay, he'll confess; "The EnPorker" costume was a tad too fat. But it wasn't his fault! The costume shop was all out of the 4 XL! Give him a break! Because that's exactly what Chris is going to give ol' Double A right here and now! He says he's only going to make this offer one time. And one time only! Arn should leave the Title in the back tonight with those snazzy boots of his; or he's going to beat him so bad that AAA is going to have to come fix that spare tire of his!
Match: Yoshihiro Tajiri vs. Brian Christopher
Referee: Danny Davis
"Too Cool" Brian Christopher has been in a bit of a rut of late, but looks to be on his way to mounting a comeback as he hits Yoshihiro Tajiri first with a superkick and then with the Hip Hop guilltoine legDrop! Tajiri kicks out both times however, and after using several of his dazzling moves like the handspring back elbow and trapping Christopher in the illegal Tarantula hold for a bit; "The Japanese Buzzsaw" cracks Brian Christopher with the Shining Wizard amd makes the pin! Tajiri gets his hand raised by Mr. Fuji while "Miss Texas" Jacqueline Moore helps her man from the ring.
COMMERCIAL BREAK
The Mexi-Kings; Eddie Guerrero and Shawn Hernandez; talk to Terri about how that punk ass Homicide fled the company after the beating he received last week. Puta! Probably in Witness Protection esse. Which is exactly where that limey Brit William Regal should be headed! Cheerio! Haha!
Match: Eddie Guerrero vs. Devon Hughes
Referee: S.D. Jones
Oh Testify my brothers! Eddie Guerrero thought he was going to get off easy in this one and takes Devon Hughes too lightly. He was wrong to do so and gets a good pounded by big Devon who hits the 360 degree corkscrew back elbow smash setting "Latino Heat" up for a big ol' Spinebuster! Eddie kicks out at two and fights his way back into the match. He sends Hughes out of the corner with a monkey flip and proceeds to hit his dazed competitor with a belly to belly suplex before locking in the Lasso from El Paso elevated Cloverleaf! Devon cries out gritting his teeth, but he isn't going down without a fight. He makes it to the ropes and as Eddie attempts to keep on top of him he racks him with a headbutt before unloading with the fists! He has Guerrero on the run and laying him out heads up top for the flying headbutt! Eddie is one step ahead of him however and roles out of the way allowing Devon to crack his head on the canvas! Devon kicks around for a bit before being pulled up to his feet by Eddie Guerrero who plants him into the mat with a front powerslam! It's Guerrero who then goes up top and going airborne connects with the Frog Splash! 1! 2! 3! Eddie has won the match! He celebrates with Shawn Hernandez while Spike Hughes helps Devon as he rolls out of the ring.
COMMERCIAL BREAK
"Mean" Gene and Lanny welcome us back from the break before reminding us that next week's show will be coming to us live from the Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania! And while tickets for that show are sold out, those folks at home should be sure to join us right here on Eastern Championship's home station of TNN The Nashville Network to catch all the exciting ECW action live! And be sure to tune in this Saturday morning and night right here for more ECW action with ECW Slammin' Saturday and ECW Weekened Warriors!
The lights then go out, mist fills the arena; and voodoo drums begin to pound. Out on the ramp "The Soul Stealer" Papa Shango emerges from the darkness with Barry Windham and Rhino in tow! They come down to the ring and Shango tells us this Saturday they did what need to be done! An example was made, a life reduced to ash; and a traitor dealt with as the Dark One commands! And now with Mongo Vyle dealt with in due fashion, the Dark Circle is sure to ensnare, enclose on yet another traitor; the very knave known as "The Ring Master" Matt Borne!
Just then weird circus music begins to play as a spotlight cricles about the darkened arena settling on the ramp where Matt Borne stands united with Pogo the Clown, Luna Vachon; and "The Dark Prophet" Brimstone! Brimstone tells Shango that he may not have taken notes, may not have felt it worth bothering checking in on this reality; but the odds... are no longer in the Dark Circle's favor!
Shango laughs at this and says that numbers mean nothing! Only true power shall reign! And none can stand against, none can destroy, none can collapse the power of the Dark Lord! And the Dark One has conferred with him! And has imbued his soul with the very power to destroy "The Dark Prophet!" He then lets out his war cry.
Match: Papa Shango vs. Matt Borne
Referee: Danny Davis
Davis wisely looks a little nervous officiating this one and gives both Papa Shango and Matt Borne more leeway than would be normal while the two men tear one another apart. Little wrestling is used early on and trapping Shango in the corner, Borne climbs the second rope and rains down what must be a 20 count of punches on his former master. Shango scoops him up however and hits Borne with a running sitout powerbomb for a two count! Rear headlocks prove futile as Shango at one point bites "The Ring Master" to escape it and when Matt locks in the Stump Puller single leg Boston Crab, the voodoo priest manages to roll over on his stomach and kicks Matt in the balls! And a brawl has broken out at ringside between The Dark Circle and The Circus of Doom!
Shango then hits the Voodoo inverted shoulderbreaker for a near pinfall. Clumps of Matt's hair litter the ring and Shango is bleeding from his mouth as Borne pummels his face in when "The Soul Stealer" lets loose with a face full of Voodoo Mist! Borne clutches his face and starts screaming as he runs about the ring. Shango is stalking his prey when suddenly Brimstone slides into the ring, spins Papa about, grabs him by the throat; and Chokeslams him right back to Hell! Having had enough Davis calls for the bell awarding the match to Shango via DQ while on the outside Windham and Rhino double-team Pogo the Clown who is seated up against the guardrail getting a mudhole stomped into him! Seeing their teammate in trouble, Brimstone and Borne head outside and begins fighting with them! Shango is now back on his feet and wiping blood from his face he lets out a war cry before hitting the ropes, charging across the ring; and wipes everyone out with a tope dive! The bodies hit the floor and ECW is still in chaos as it takes a...
COMMERCIAL BREAK
In front of the ECW banner with Correspondent Terri Runnels, David Prazak talks about his client "The Lone Wolf" Dean Malenko who wants to make it clear tonight, that holding two Titles; both the ECW Light Heavyweight Championship AND the WCW Gen X belt he refuses to be overlooked at the biggest show of them all Wrestle Annual III like he was at Showdown in Charlotte. He'll have a match whether it's sanctioned or not. Malenko then tells us that he doesn't care who it is he faces, he's issuing a challenge to anyone on the roster. Hell he'll fight that Chump the Blitzkrieg for the belt if he has to. Because he hasn't forgotten this past Wednesday by a long shot!
Match: Dean Malenko vs. Buck Zumhoff
Referee: S.D. Jones
"Rock 'N Roll" Buck Zumhoff gives it his all out here and gives Dean Malenko a bit of a fight. But he is no match for Dean who dominates the second half of the match before putting the Slammin' Saturdays host down for the count with a powerbomb off the second rope.
COMMERCIAL BREAK
While Joel Gertner makes the intros for the next match the announcers show us what happened with the Dark Circle and Circus of Doom when the show went to break earlier. The two teams continue to brawl when Ronnie Garvin and his security team show up to break it up. Okerlund calls this feud a powderkeg and the fuse has already been lit!
Tag-Team Match: Dustin Rhodes & Tommy Dreamer vs. The Texas Hangmen
Referee: Danny Davis
Black Bart and Jesse Barr gives the Tag-Team Champions one hell of a fight and it looks like both sides are having fun beating the hell out of one another. At ringside Bob orton Jr. gets in on the action when he can hopping up on the apron and clubbing Tommy Dreamer from behind to help Barr catch a breather at one point and whipping Dustin Rhodes into the steel barricade to prevent a tag another. Mostly though he aggravates the crowd by fighting with them. In the end the rowdy trio from Texas aren't enough and Dustin Rhodes pins Barr with the Blackout kneeling facebuster! After the match Dreamer and Rhodes share a drink from Dustin's flask while Orton argues with the ref. Having had enough of him though, Tommy surprised Bob by scooping him up and takes him out with the Fireman's Carry Slam! The Tag Champs return to celebrating their win with Beulah McGillicutty when...
"Ich tu der weh" by Rammstein hits! And out from the back come the Baron von Raschke and his Ubermensch! They head down to the ring when...
World's Finest show up on the ramp! Rob Van Dam and Rick Rude look ready for action and grab the Ubermensch from behind when...
Dustin Rhodes gets on the microphone. He tells both teams to hold up. He's too drunk to fight again. And him and Dreamer? They really don't care which team they end up fighting at Wrestle Annual III! So maybe they should just settle things themselves! World's Finest and the Ubermensch seem receptive to this idea when...
"White Train" by Tito & Tarantula plays and out from the back swaggers ECW President Eric Bischoff! He says he likes Dustin's idea! In fact he likes it so much he's going to set up a # 1 Contender's Match between World's Finest and the Ubermensch for right here next week!
COMMERCIAL BREAK
Okerlund and Poffo welcome us back from the last commercial break of the evening. They then hype tonight's main event which will see ECW Champion "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson battle it out with former Light Heavyweight Champ "The Redneck Rebel" Doug Gilbert! Banjo music begins to play.
Gertner: The following contest is scheduled for one fall. Introducing first weighing 240 lbs. from Lexington, Tennessee and accompanied to the ring by Cousin Jamie; he is "The Redneck Rebel" Doug Gilbert!
Doug and Jamie get the fans cheering as they have themselves a little hoe down in the middle of the ring!
Gertner: And now introducing at this time from Rome, Georgia weighing 255 lbs.; he is the ECW Champion; "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson!
Main Event: Arn Anderson vs. Doug Gilbert
Referee: S.D. Jones
Doug Gilbert gets some offense in here, but the ECW Champ Arn Anderson controls most of the match except when Cousin Jamie distracts him at ringside and Double A gets clubbed from behind by Gilbert who uses the Hot Shot flapjack dropped into a hangman on the Champ! It gets him a two count, but only serves to piss off Arn who dominates most of the match before hitting Doug hard with a DDT flattening him and is about to make the cover when...
Chris Jericho appears at ringside! And he's got the ECW Championship! He's screaming that it's "Mine!" Arn hops out of the ring and dropping the Title runs around the ring and up the ramp with Anderson in hot pursuit! "The Enforcer" is pissed and stops at the top of the ramp as the bell sounds?! Arn turns to look back.
Doug Gilbert has won the match via Count Out! The Bayou Boy has beaten the Eastern Heavyweight Champ! Doug and Jamie celebrate as they Dosey Doe around the ring. And annoyed Anderson turns back up to the ramp only to get busted in the chops by a superkick from Jericho! "The Long Island Loud-Mouth" seems mighty proud of himself as he gloats over Arn Anderson screaming how the ECW Title is his! But when Double AA begins to get back up, Jericho once again hightails it out of there! He leaves an enraged Anderson in his wake.
Lights Fade.
