STAMPEDE WRESTLING
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 1984
1pm - 2pm
TAPED ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1 AT THE VICTORIA PAVILION IN CALGARY, ALBERTA
ED WHALEN opens the show at ringside and welcomes us to STAMPEDE WRESTLING!
WHALEN runs down some of the matches will see today, including Bobby Heenan’s masked duo of the Masked Superstar and the Super Destroyer taking on Jim Neidhart and Gerry Morrow, Bret Hart defending the North American title against Bad News Allen, and the main event will see Davey Boy Smith face his younger brother, Johnny Smith, in a Streetfight!
ED then talks about a recent show in Regina, Saskatchewan, where Ric Flair was in town to defend the NWA title against Bret Hart.
VTR - Ric Flair v. Bret Hart, 10/27 in Regina:
. . . As they passed the 55-minute mark, both men, realizing that time is running out, really pushed for a pin or submission. They exchanged holds and counterholds at a feverish pace. Bret got a series of quick nearfalls, but Flair always got a shoulder up at the last second. Flair went for his signature hold, the Figure-4, but Bret grabbed Flair’s head and rolled him up in a small package for a VERY close nearfall.
The time ran out and the bell rung just as Bret had Flair locked in a Sleeperhold in the middle of the ring.
WHALEN says that Bret had been bloodied by Bad News Allen earlier in the night when Bret attempted to save Jim Neidhart from a post-match assault by Allen, but showed a lot of guts by coming out to wrestle Flair, and taking the Champ to the limit. Stampede promoters are working with Jim Crockett and the NWA championship committee to try and get Flair back to Stampede for a rematch.
Flair told a Calgary Sun reporter after the show that he has nothing but respect for Bret, and the entire Hart family, and he would love to come back to Stampede Wrestling and face Bret again.
When we come back from the break, we’ll have our first match, as Mr. Hito teams up with Leo Burke to face Steve DiSalvo and the masked Yankee.

LEO BURKE & MR. HITO V. STEVE DISALVO & THE MASKED YANKEE, JIP – Burke and Hito work well together as a team, and they get the win when Hito pins the masked Yankee with a bodypress from the top rope.
THE MASKED SUPERSTAR & SUPER DESTROYER (w/ Bobby Heenan) V. JIM NEIDHART & GERRY MORROW, JIP – We join the match about 10 minutes in, and Neidhart has the Super Destroyer in the corner, and he pummeling him. The Masked Superstar comes in and attacks Neidhart from behind, which brings Morrow in as well and all four men brawl in the ring. During the melee, Neidhart knocks the Super Destroyer through the ropes and to the floor. While outside the ring, Super D puts an object into his mask, then climbs back in the ring.
As referee Cedric Hathaway is trying to get Morrow and the Masked Superstar out of the ring, Super D delivers a loaded headbutt on Neidhart, KO’ing Jim, and allowing Super D to pin him for the win.
After the match, WHALEN climbs into the ring and interviews BOBBY HEENAN, THE MASKED SUPERSTAR and SUPER DESTROYER. Whalen says that Heenan’s team was victorious there, but he saw, and he’s sure everyone saw, the Super Destroyer put an object into his mask before delivering the headbutt that knocked Jim Neidhart out cold.
Heenan says that Whalen had better watch his mouth, if he continues to spread these lies about his men, Heenan will sue him!
Super D says there was nothing in his mask, and tells Ed to touch his forehead, he can see for himself, he says that his head is just harder than most people’s, allowing him to deliver such a devastating headbutt!
Heenan then talks about Bobby Duncum, and asks Whalen why Duncum wasn’t teaming with Jim Neidhart? Before Ed can answer, the Brain cuts him off, and says they all know the answer to that question, it’s because Duncum is scared to death of these two men, so he sent Gerry Morrow in to team with Neidhart instead. He says Duncum can’t hid forever, sooner or later, his men are going to get their hands on him and teach Duncum a lesson he’ll never forget!

ED WHALEN interviews the North American Tag Team Champions DAVEY BOY SMITH and DYNAMITE KID in the ring. Whalen asks Davey for his thoughts on the Streetfight against his own brother in today’s main event. Davey says that he didn’t want it to come to this, he really hoped that he and Johnny could have sorted this whole mess out, but JR Foley has got into Johnny’s head, and convinced him that he needs to do this. Davey says that after he beats Johnny in the Streetfight, he hopes that the two of them can finally put this whole ordeal behind them.
Dynamite then talks about the Masters of Disaster, Kerry Brown and Kelly Kiniski. He says that they’re a tough team, but they don’t scare him and Davey Boy, and any time Brown and Kiniski want to challenge them for these belts, he and Davey will gladly face them.
After Davey Boy and Dynamite leave the ring, BAD NEWS ALLEN, along with his manager JR FOLEY comes out to the ring.
Allen says that every time he’s got his hands on Bret Hart, Bret’s had to be either helped from the ring, or taken out on a stretcher, but he somehow manages to keep the North American title.
Foley thinks that it’s Stu Hart’s doing, and Allen agrees.
Allen says that in just a few minutes, he’s going to put the final nail in Bret’s coffin, he’s going to tear him limb from limb, take back the NA title, and end Bret Hart’s career, once and for all! He tells the fans in attendance and watching at home, not to take a bathroom break, or get something to eat, because if they do, they’ll miss seeing Bret Hart’s final match!

NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
BRET HART (Champ) V. BAD NEWS ALLEN (w/ JR Foley), JIP – When we join the match, Allen has Bret in a bad way, and the cut on Bret’s head from the other night in Regina has been opened up again, turning his face into a crimson mask. It looks like Allen might make good on his promise before the break, that today is the day he will destroy Bret Hart!
Bret shows his guts, though, as he keeps fighting back, no matter how badly Allen punishes him. They eventually move to the arena floor, where Allen again gets the upper hand, and batters Bret with a wooden chair, further opening the cut on his head. At this point, Bret has to wipe the blood from his eyes, just to see. Ed Whalen suggests that the referee should think about stopping the match, but he knows Bret wouldn’t want that.
Allen drops the chair, and rolls Bret back into the ring, knowing that he can’t win the title on the floor. Allen continues to pummel Bret . . . BUT THE CHAMPION FIGHTS BACK!!!
Bret starts firing off forearm smashes, one after another, hitting Allen in the jaw. He backs Allen into the corner, unleashes several chops that leave big red welts on Allen’s chest, then Bret hiptosses Allen out of the corner.
Bret goes to the second turnbuckle, and delivers an elbowdrop, and covers Allen. Bad News gets a shoulder up at 2 and a half, but he’s slow to get up. Hart stays on him, not giving Allen a chance to recover. Bret whips Allen into the ropes . . . AND LOCKS ON THE SLEEPERHOLD!!
Bret’s got Allen locked in the Sleeperhold, right in the middle of the ring! Allen tries to reach the ropes, but he can’t. In a last-ditch effort to break the hold, he backs into the corner, slamming Bret against the turnbuckles, but Allen doesn’t have enough strength to get much behind it, and Bret keeps the hold locked on.
At this point, seeing Allen’s chances of breaking the hold slipping away, JR Foley gets up on the apron, holding the wooden chair that Allen had used to pummel Bret earlier in the match, and he cracks Bret over the head with it! Bret is stunned, but still has the hold locked on, but a second chairshot from Foley causes Bret to release the Sleeperhold.
Referee Cedric Hathaway calls for the bell, and disqualifies Bad News Allen! Foley continues to hit Bret with the chair while Allen shakes off the cobwebs, then grabs the chair from Foley, drops it on the mat, and cinches Bret up for a Piledriver right into the chair!
Allen is weakened from the Sleeperhold, and Bret blocks the Piledriver attempt, and then backdrops Allen to the mat. Bret takes the chair and hits Allen with it as Bad News staggers to his feet. That puts Allen on the mat, and at that point, a group of wrestlers and officials hit the ring and pull Bret away.
WHALEN says that Bret Hart kept the title via the disqualification, but this issue with Bad News Allen is far from over. After the break, Davey Boy Smith faces his younger brother Johnny Smith in a Streetfight!

STREETFIGHT:
DAVEY BOY SMITH (w/ Dynamite Kid) V. JOHNNY SMITH (w/ JR Foley), JIP – We only see the final few minutes of the match, as the hour is almost up. Dynamite Kid is at ringside with his tag team partner, to make sure JR Foley doesn’t get involved.
The two brothers hit each other with everything but the kitchen sink, trying to gain the advantage. Late in the match, Johnny whips Davey Boy into the corner, then charges at him, but Davey Boy sidesteps, and Johnny crashes chest-first into the corner. Davey Boy quickly rolls Johnny up, but only gets a 2-count.
At that point, Davey Boy goes to the top rope and waits for Johnny to get to his feet. JR Foley starts to climb up on the apron, looking to interfere, but Dynamite Kid is there to stop him, and he pulls Foley back down to the floor, then knocks him on his ass with a big right hand!
Inside the ring, Johnny slowly gets to his feet, and Davey Boy delivers a top-rope missile dropkick that catches Johnny right on the chin. Davey Boy covers his brother and gets the 1, 2, 3!
While that was going on inside the ring, Kerry Brown and Kelly Kiniski, obviously upset over Dynamite assaulting their manager, arrive at ringside and pummel Dynamite Kid! Kerry Brown grabs the North American Tag Team title belt that Davey Boy wore to the ring, and smashes DK in the face with it!
After getting his hand raised, Davey Boy sees what’s going on, and he jumps out of the ring to help his friend and tag team partner.
The two teams brawl around ringside, eventually making their way back down the aisle and out of sight.
WHALEN wraps up this week’s show, and hypes next week.
