11-03-84 - ALL-STAR WRESTLING



Standby St. Louis for action. You've got a ringside seat for the excitement of professional wrestling! This is KDNL-TV All-Star Wrestling! Hi again everybody. This is Kevin Wall. Welcome to another exciting edition of All-Star Wrestling. This hour on All-Start Wrestling we're going to see America's Hero Sgt. Slaughter take on the masked madman known only as the Halloween Horror. We'll also see two teams new to the area as the team of Jimmy Backlund and Randy Barber battle it out with the North-South Connection; the tandem of Jim Gorman and Paul Kelly. Also on the agenda we'll here from Colonel Buck Robley as well as both the Central States Champion "Avalanche" Buzz Tyler and his opponent from the Sheik's Army; The Iron Shiek who will battle it out for the CSW Title at the top of the hour. All that and more can be expected on this edition of All-Star Wrestling. Stay with us; we'll be back with our first match of the hour right after this.

Sgt. Slaughter comes out and says the Pledge of Allegiance to start the show.

Match: Sgt. Slaughter vs. The Halloween Horror

The Sarge takes a beating from the vicious psychopath known as The Halloween Horror early on. The fans chants of "USA" seemingly bring Sgt. Slaughter back from the edge of disaster however and he puts a hurting on the masked man before locking in the Patriot Clutch for the win here tonight.

Back from break the atmosphere in the arena has changed as the fans are booing and throwing garbage at the collected forces of the Sheik's Army which tonight consists of Abdullah himself, Iron Sheik, MEB, Captain Luke Graham, Gypsy Joe; and T.G. Stone. The Shiek tells ring announcer Terry Garvin and the fans to shuts their faces! Close their yaps before his Army forces them shut permanently! That he heard the big words from the so-called fighting Missouri Champion last week! Nothing but air! They don't fear Race! The Sheik's Army is the most dominant force in wrestling today! They don't fear anything! Whether man or beast! They don't fear your gods! Tonight they challenge "Avalanche" Buzz Tyler for the Central States Championship! Tonight they shall destroy Tyler right in front of his blubbering fans! And tonight the Iron Sheik will be CSW Champion! This he swears!

Back from break Kevin Wall sends us to a video package for the CSW TV Champion; the monstrous so-called wrestler of the Sheik's Army; the vile MEB!



We're in a cemerary at night where the door to a tomb bursts open. Smoke billows from it and out from the ashes emerges the monstrous MEB! A voiceover begins from Abdullah about how the Beast escaped from the very lake of fire! It shows MEB being fed disgusting looking flesh which the Sheik says once was his opponents while we're shown him squashing several jobbers in brutal fashion from his previous matches. The Sheik warns all comers that toe mess with MEB is to invite their own utter demise!

Buzz Tyler has the CSW Title draped over his shoulder. He tells us that the Shiek's little Army may've gotten one over on the Avalanche last week. But that there was the exception; not the rule. Buzz and his good buddy Bob Brown proved that earlier this week when they not only defeated that idiot T.G. Stone; but the man he faces tonight; The Iron Sheik as well. And Sheiky, that was just a preview of comin' attractions baby.

Another ad for next Thursday's show, this time Kevin Wall is with Col. Buck Robley and Jerry Blackwell. Robley does most of the talking telling us that the MEB might be big, he might be bad; but that the monster is yellow! He says that the Sheik and his army can try to duck him and his man Jerry "The Crusher" Blackwell, but they won't be doing it long. Because already they got their hands on Gypsy Joe. And while the man may indeed feel no pain; today Blackwell proved once again that nobody, but nobody walks away from the 450 lb. Splash!



Kevin then replays a 5-minute clip where Gypsy Joe gets a little offense in and Colonel Buck Robley chases Sheik Abdullah from ringside menacing him with his bionic forearm before a dominating Jerry Blackwell puts an end to Joe with the 450 lbs. Splash.

Kevin Wall then sends us to our next match with referee Tom Andrews.

Tag-Team Match: Jimmy Backlund & Randy Barber vs. Jim Gorman & Paul Kelly



Before the match begins Jimmy Backlund and Randy Barber are in the ring telling the fans how they're the most In High Demand tag-team in wrestling today! And if their so-called "opponents" don't get in the ring soon they're gonna leave here denying the Central States fans the honor of seeing them compete. Because they got places to go and jobs to do!

The North-South Connection then comes to the ring. Jim Gorman who's in a cowboy hat and snobby Paul Kelly billed from Brooklyn, New York. The matches begins with Kelly and Gorman really never on the same page, though singly they fair well against Backlund and Barber. At one point Kelly and Gorman nearly come to blows and their opponents leads the fans in a chant to "Fight! Fight! Fight!" It never comes to that however as they hug it out and the fans boo.

The match continues until Jimmy Backlund charges a once again bickering Kelly and Gorman, who see him coming and hit a double flapjack into the ropes and Kelly rolls him up for the win! Barber then enter the ring and goes to clothesline Jim out of his boots, but Gorman ducks it and catches Randy with a back body drop that sends us to...

Final ad with Kevin Wall for the night with CSW Tag-Team Champions The Easy Riders! They tell us that they've heard the sobbing over what they did to those teen heattrhobs; The Uptown Boys! They've heard the crying and the boo hoo hooing from all the teenage girls! They even appreciate the rending of the garments! And while "Maniac" Matt Borne and "Killer" Jim Morris may well be sobs, they aren't heartless. Which is why they're going to help all of those Uptown Boys fans right here tonight! Because they're giving them a very special information tonight; and that's 4141 Mill Street Kansas City, Missouri 6411! What's that you ask? Why that's the address for St. Luke's Hospital, which is the current home address for your precious Marty Jannetty and Tommy Rogers! So go ahead and send them your cards, send them your flowers; and you chocolates. But Jim wouldn't recommend visting them; cause they sure ain't pretty no more!

Kevin Wall then sends us to the main event, where you referee for this evening is Dave Nevins.

CSW Title Match: Buzz Tyler (c) vs. The Iron Sheik



These two men battle back and forth with neither man giving the other an inch. Sheik Abdullah looks to be the difference maker after Buzz lays Sheik out with a powerslam; but Tyler grabs him over the top rope and lets him have it with a hard right sending him out to the floor! He turns back and Iron Sheik lets him have it with a throat thrust before dominating Tyler for a bit. But "The Avalanche" recovers and the two men end up busting one another open before all is said and done. The end comes when Sheiky staggers Buzz with several knees to the gut before letting him have it with a gutwrench suplex! Tyler is down and Iron Sheik locks in the Camel Clutch! Buzz is fighting it, but it's too much! He taps and Iron Sheik has won the Central States Championship! The fans boo as Sheik Abdullah staggers into the ring to raise his charge's hand!

And we're outta time!


10-27-84 - House Show at the The Five Flags Center (Dubuque, IA)
Sgt. Slaughter comes out and says the Pledge of Allegiance with the fans.
Match: Johnny Saint defeats David Madigan.
Match: Jerry Blackwell w/ Col. Buck Robley defeats Dusty Wolfe.
Match: The Grapplers # 1 & 2 defeats the Cornhuskers # 1 & 2.
Buzz Tyler comes out and says while T.G. Stone might've helped the Sheiks pull one over on them last week; tonight he's going to get his pound of flesh.
Match: MEB w/ Sheik Abdullah defeats Jim Gorman.
Main Event: Buzz Tyler defeats T.G. Stone w/ Sheik Abdullah.

10-31-84 - Kansas City TV Kansas City Memorial Hall (Kansas City, MO)
Sgt. Slaughter comes out and says the Pledge of Allegiance with the fans.
Match: Jerry Blackwell w/ Col. Buck Robley defeats Gypsy Joe w/ Sheik Abdullah the Great.

Sheik Abdullah the Great comes out with the Army. They don't fear Race! And tonight the Iron Sheik will be CSW Champion!

Wow shocking finish in that main event! I didn't expect to see Sheik win the belt on TV. But you have to think it would have caused a ratings bump for next week.

I think from a booking stand point it makes a lot of sense to have Iron Sheik as your champ, rather than Buzz Tyler, who was bland at his very best. You have a lot of avenues you can go with Sheik on top. Slaughter vs. Sheik being the obvious one. But also Blackwell vs. Sheik could be a lot of fun as well!

The Sheik's win, on TV, would send the Central States fans onto a tizzy. Like Comish said, Slaughter is waiting in the wongs for a feud that will be like a plains blizzard. I can't wait to see what is coming next.

Totally agree with Commish and T, Sheiky was still at the top of his game at this point, and gives the entire promotion so much more flexibility. Really like Justin's suggestion, Blackwell and Robley going to war with MEB and the Sheiks has outstanding potential as a main event feud, and you still have Slaughter waiting in the wings. I too liked the decision to have this title change on TV, it wasn't a Slaughter vs. Iron Sheik match that would do huge business at every building you visit. I don't know that a Buzz vs. Sheik title match would add one more ticket sale, it wouldn't hurt, but it wouldn't help. Putting it on TV will definitely mean a bigger audience for the next few tv shows, and might even get a few more ticket sales to house shows for the rematch that wouldn't have been sold otherwise.

Absolutely loved the Easy Rider's promo, Borne and Jim are really growing on me. Good work here bud.

Today the Iron Sheik proved once and for all that Iran is #1 by breaking the weak spine of the paper champion, Snowflake Tyler, and taking his belt. I just received a phone call from my good friend, the Ayatollah Khomeini, who has promised me ringside seats for the next Central States card in Teheran, where all challengers will be forced to fly to if they want to challenge the new champion for his belt.

What good sports those Easy Riders are. I too, answered their charitable call and sent Marty Jannetty and Tommy Rogers new Barbie dolls and EZ Bake ovens so they can occupy their time over their 3 year stay at the hospital.

If MEB enjoys eating the flesh of his hapless opponents, he will be in for a feast Thursday night when he chows down on the 500 pound carcass of that fat slob, Crusher Blackwell. I'd say Col Buck Robley is in danger of being devoured by Sheik Abdullahs monster as well, but from what I hear MEBs dietary restrictions prohibit him from eating Jackass.
