NORTHLANDS COLISEUM IN EDMONTON, ALBERTA
MATCH #1:
KELLY KINISKI (w/ JR Foley & Kerry Brown) beat SHAWN MICHAELS via pinfall after a top-rope kneedrop.
MATCH #2:
KERRY BROWN (w/ JR Foley & Kelly Kiniski) beat MR. HITO in a hard-fought match via pinfall after hitting a Legdrop.
MATCH #3:
THE MASKED SUPERSTAR (w/ Bobby Heenan) VS. JIM NEIDHART. Neidhart went after Heenan as the match started, which proved to be a mistake, as it gave the Superstar a chance to attack the Anvil from behind. Superstar dominated the early going, but Neidhart eventually made a comeback and had the Superstar on the ropes. However, Neidhart couldn’t put the masked man away, and the Superstar eventually turned the tables again, and this time, he put Neidhart away with the Cobra Clutch.
Superstar refused to break the hold after the bell, but a group of babyface wrestlers hit the ring and pulled him off Neidhart, with Superstar and Heenan then leaving the ringside area.
MATCH #4:
BOBBY DUNCUM VS. THE SUPER DESTROYER (w/ Bobby Heenan). Like the Neidhart – Superstar match, this was another slobberknocker. The two men pummeled each other, with neither getting any kind of real advantage. Super D eventually did take control, but Duncum turned the tables and laid Super D out with a vicious Lariat for the pinfall.
MATCH #5:
DYNAMITE KID VS. GREAT GAMA SINGH (w/ JR Foley). Singh spent several minutes at the start taunting the fans on the floor. Dynamite waited in the ring, but eventually his patience ran out, and he dove from the top rope onto Gama to start the match!
Inside the ring, Dynamite stayed on the offensive, and wore Gama down. Late in the match, JR Foley interjected himself, distracting Dynamite, and that gave Gama a chance to fight back, but it was short-lived, as Dynamite dropped Gama with three consecutive snap suplexes, then delivered a diving headbutt from the top rope for the 1, 2, 3.
MATCH #6:
BRUCE HART & DAVEY BOY SMITH VS. ADRIAN STREET & JOHNNY SMITH. Davey Boy and Johnny Smith didn’t even wait for the bell to sound, they started brawling, eventually moving to the arena floor. Inside the ring, Bruce Hart and Adrian Street had the fans on the edge of their seats, with lightning-quick holds and counter-holds. The Smith brothers made their way back into the ring, and referee Cedric Hathaway tried to separate them and get them to go to their respective corners. While Hathaway was doing that, Street used the opportunity to jab a thumb into Bruce’s eye, then bounced off the ropes and dropped Hart with a clothesline.
The next few minutes saw Adrian Street control the match, as he kept Bruce on the mat, and wore him down with several holds, smoothly transitioning from one hold to the next. Bruce eventually fought his way to his feet, but Street quickly grabbed Hart by the hair and pulled him back down to the mat. While the referee didn’t see the infraction, Davey Boy Smith did, and he jumped into the ring and went after Street.
All this proved to do was distract the referee again, and it gave Street the opportunity to whip Hart into the turnbuckle in Street’s corner, and he and Johnny Smith double-teamed Bruce while Hathaway was busy getting Davey Boy out of the ring.
Bruce took a vicious beating from Street and Smith, but out of nowhere Bruce seemed to get a second wind, and started throwing punches at both men. Bruce then made a mad dash for his corner, diving to slap Davey Boy’s outstretched hand, just as Johnny Smith grabbed Bruce.
Davey Boy came in and tore into his brother, knocking him around like a ragdoll. Adrian Street came in, but he was got more of the same, and Davey knocked him through the ropes and to the floor.
Davey Boy puts Johnny on the mat with a dropkick, then heads to the top rope. As Johnny Smith staggers to his feet, Davey Boy connects with a bodypress that put Johnny Smith in a pinning predicament.
However, Street, while outside the ring, grabbed Bruce Hart’s BC Mid-Heavyweight title belt, and then jumped off the top rope onto Davey Boy, smashing Davey in the head with the belt. The referee immediately called for the bell and awarded the match to Davey Boy and Bruce by disqualification.
Street put the boots to Davey Boy, but Bruce jumped into the ring and hit Street with several rights and lefts before connecting with a dropkick that sent Street back to the floor.
Bruce then helped Davey Boy to his feet and helped him to the dressing room.
MAIN EVENT
HARLEM STREETFIGHT FOR THE NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP:
BAD NEWS ALLEN (Champ) (w/ JR Foley) VS. BRET HART. Bret took the house mic before the match started, and thanked all the fans who had sent letters after Allen piledrived him on the floor. He said that most of the fans he’d had the opportunity to speak with didn’t want him to wrestle this match, at least not so soon. He appreciates their concern, but this is something he has to do. Foley then snatched the mic from Bret, and said that it might be something Bret feels he has to do, but it’ll be the last thing he ever does!
With that, Bad News jumped Bret from behind to start the match. There was very little actual wrestling in this Harlem Streetfight, as both men had one goal in mind, and that was the complete destruction of the other.
The two men brawled in, and out, of the ring, and at one point they even made their way into the first few rows of seats, causing the fans to scatter!
The ring bell was used as a weapon on the floor, as Bad News picked it up and went to hit Bret with it, but before he could, Bret kicked him in the gut, then grabbed the bell and clobbered Allen with it!
A couple of chairs made their way into the ring late in the match, as there are no rules in this type of match, and both men used the chairs as weapons at various times in the match.
By the end, both men were bleeding heavily. The match came to an end when JR Foley interfered, and went to hit Bret with a chair as Allen held Bret. Hart was able to move out of the way at the last second, and Foley smashed Allen over the head with the chair instead!
Bret then dropped a stunned Foley with a clothesline, and then covered the Champion for the 1, 2, 3!
BRET HART IS THE NEW NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPION!!!
