They welcome us to Osaka for this week’s episode of NTV’s World Wrestling Kingdom!
Tonight, we’ll kick things off with two up-and-coming youngsters, as Jun Akiyama faces Yuji Nagata!
Two powerhouses will square off, as Stan Hansen meets Masa Saito!
The Can-Am Express, Dan Kroffat and Doug Furnas, face the young team of Yoshiro Takayama and Takao Omori!
Then, the first of two big main events, as the first Tag Team Crown champions will be determined, when the Miracle Violence Connection square off with the Kings of Destruction!
And, the final bout of the evening will see the Super Generation Army of Mitsuharu Misawa, Keiji Muto and Kenta Kobashi meet the legendary trio of Antonio Inoki, Tatsumi Fujinami and Riki Choshu!
JUN AKIYAMA defeats YUJI NAGATA. Both men debuted in September of 1992, just days apart from each other, so this is a second anniversary match for both men. They shake hands to start, and then lock up when the bell rings. They put on a fairly basic match, as young wrestlers usually do at this point in their careers, though the difference in styles of both men are evident. Both men are accomplished amateur wrestlers, but Nagata has also been training in the “shoot-style”, so his style depends more on strikes, while Akiyama prefers a more mat-based technical approach.
After a pretty evenly matched 13 minutes, Akiyama gets the win when he catches Nagata with a Belly to Belly Suplex for the 1, 2, 3!
Wakabayashi says that they have some pre-recorded comments from the Chairman of the World Wrestling Kingdom, Jumbo Tsuruta!
We go to Jumbo, seated behind a desk in his office.
Tsuruta says that this show that the fans are currently watching marks the end of their inaugural tour, and he thinks that it’s been a great success! We’ve seen Mitsuharu Misawa become the very first King’s Crown champion.
Later on in this show, we’ll see whether the Kings of Destruction or the Miracle Violence Connection will become the first Tag Team Crown champions, and we’ll also see a 6-man tag match for the ages, as the stars of the new generation, Misawa, Keiji Muto and Kenta Kobashi, face the legends of puroresu in Antonio Inoki, Tatsumi Fujinami and Riki Choshu!
The second tour will kick off in a few days in Kyoto, and it will culminate on October 15 at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo. The tour will feature a tournament to crown the very first Super J Crown champion! Also, on the final show of the tour at Nippon Budokan, Mitsuharu Misawa will make his first defense of the King’s Crown, against Stan Hansen!
Jumbo says that he has some big news as well . . . the World Wrestling Kingdom will finish the year with a show on December 24 at the Tokyo Dome! This show will feature all three crowns being defended, as well as plenty of other huge matches that will be announced in the coming months!
Jumbo hopes to see everyone at the Tokyo Dome on December 24!
STAN HANSEN defeats MASA SAITO. These men have met plenty of times before, both in the US and here in Japan. Both are powerful men who would rather brawl than wrestle! That’s what this match ends up being, a wild brawl, and they spend almost as much time outside the ring as they do inside it!
In the end, Hansen gets the win when he nearly takes Saito’s head off with a devastating Lariat! Hansen covers Saito and gets the 1, 2, 3!
Afterwards, Hansen takes the house mic, and says that Mitsuharu Misawa showed him a lot when he defeated the legend Tatsumi Fujinami to become the King’s Crown champion. Unfortunately for Misawa, his title reign is only going to last until his first defense, because at Nippon Budokan next month, Hansen is coming for Misawa’s crown!
THE CAN-AM EXPRESS: DAN KROFFAT & DOUG FURNAS defeat YOSHIHIRO TAKAYAMA & TAKAO OMORI. Takayama, the 6’7” shoot-style wrestler gives a good showing of himself here. Even though he’s only been in the sport for a couple of years, he holds his own against the more experienced Kroffat and Furnas. However, the Can-Ams get the win when Furnas hits Omori with a DDT for the 1, 2, 3 in around 7 minutes.
Before the next match, Wakabayashi talks about some things that have gone on between Genichiro Tenryu and some of the other veterans in the WWK, like Tatsumi Fujinami and Riki Choshu.
VTR: WWK’s debut show, Fujinami & Inoki & Tenryu vs Saito & Sasaki & Kojima:
Tenryu is his usual dick self here, slapping the youngster Kojima around, and yelling at Satoshi to tag out so that Tenryu can have some real competition! Inoki and Fujinami don’t seem pleased with Tenryu’s behaviour.
In the end, Fujinami gets the win, catching Kojima with the Dragon Suplex for the 1, 2, 3!
Afterwards, Inoki and the Dragon shake hands with their opponents, but Tenryu just leaves the ring and heads to the back.
END VTR
And then the next week . . .
VTR: Tenryu vs Tenzan, 8-24-94:
Tenzan is a powerful guy, and he fights back, but it doesn’t last long, as Tenryu again takes control of the match. In the end, Tenryu gets the win after hitting a vicious enziguri and then follows that up with his diving back elbow off the middle turnbuckle for the 1, 2, 3!
Afterwards, it looks like Tenryu has had a change of heart, as he helps Tenryu up . . . but then he just slaps him right down to the mat again, then laughs as he leaves the ring.
END VTR
The commentary team talks about Tenryu’s attitude, and says that the other veterans, particularly Tatsumi Fujinami and Riki Choshu, have made it clear that they don’t like it, and they aren’t going to stand for it!
We then go to Genichiro Tenryu in the backstage area.
Tenryu says that pro wrestling isn’t about making friends or pleasing people . . . it’s about winning championships! He says that if anyone here in the World Wrestling Kingdom has a problem with him or his attitude . . . they know where to find him.
FOR THE VACANT TAG TEAM CROWN CHAMPIONSHIP:
THE MIRACLE VIOLENCE CONNECTION: “DR DEATH” STEVE WILLIAMS & TERRY “BAMM BAMM” GORDY defeat THE KINGS OF DESTRUCTION: TOSHIAKI KAWADA & SHINYA HASHIMOTO. This is a wild match, as these two teams tear into each other, and neither team lets up until the final bell. It’s not often that Williams and Gordy come up against a team that they can’t simply overpower, but this team of Big Hash and Dangerous K is one of those teams!
As we pass the 25-minute mark, both teams really kick it up a notch, looking to put the match away. Gordy hits Kawada with a Powerbomb, but Toshiaki kicks out of a pinfall attempt at the last second.
Gordy then tags in Williams. As Doc comes in and pummels Kawada, Gordy brawls with Hashimoto and keeps him from getting involved. Doc hits Kawada with an Oklahoma Stampede for a 2-count, and then drives Kawada into the mat with the Doctor Bomb for the 1, 2, 3!
The Miracle Violence Connection are the first Tag Team Crown champions!
THE SUPER GENERATION ARMY: MITSUHARU MISAWA & KEIJI MUTO & KENTA KOBASHI defeat ANTONIO INOKI & TATSUMI FUJINAMI & RIKI CHOSHU. There was some bad blood between Misawa and Fujinami in their earlier tag team matches, but that seems to have subsided when Misawa beat the Dragon for the King’s Crown championship, and Fujinami shook his hand afterwards.
The two teams shake hands to start this one, and we’re treated to a wrestling clinic for the next 30+ minutes! The action is non-stop, the momentum goes back and forth, with both teams getting plenty of offense in.
In the end, the Super Generation Army get the win when Misawa hits Riki Choshu with the Rolling Elbow for the 1, 2, 3!
Afterwards, the two teams shake hands again, before leaving the ring.
Wakabayashi, Fukuzawa and Takeuchi wrap things up, and hype next week’s show.
