They welcome us to historic Nippon Budokan for this week’s episode of NTV’s World Wrestling Kingdom!
Tonight, we’ll kick things off with a match that should be a real barnburner, as “Dr Death” Steve Williams meets Dan Spivey!
From there, four of the top young starts of this new generation will meet, as the Kings of Destruction, Toshiaki Kawada and Shinya Hashimoto, face Kenta Kobashi and Jun Akiyama! An interesting dynamic here, as Kawada is a long-time friend of Mitsuharu Misawa, going back to their days in high school, while Kobashi and Akiyama are both proteges of Misawa!
Then, the first of two big main events, Stan Hansen and Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy square off! This should be as hard-hitting and violent a match as you’ll ever see!
And, the big one, the match to crown the very first King’s Crown champion . . . the legendary Dragon, Tatsumi Fujinami against the man hoping to stake his claim as the ace of today’s puroresu, Mitsuharu Misawa!
“DR. DEATH” STEVE WILLIAMS defeats DAN SPIVEY. As expected, these two tear into each other as soon as the match begins, and the fans are treated to a slobberknocker! It’s a short match, lasting less than 10 minutes, but it’s full of action, as Spivey and Doc pummel each other from bell to bell!
In the end, after Spivey kicked out of a pin attempt after the Oklahoma Stampede, Williams connects with the Doctor Bomb for the 1, 2, 3!
THE KINGS OF DESTRUCTION: TOSHIAKI KAWADA & SHINYA HASHIMOTO defeat THE SUPER GENERATION ARMY: KENTA KOBASHI & JUN AKIYAMA. The commentary team says that a match with this much talent could main event any show in the world, but here, it’s only our semi main event! Akiyama, despite the fact that he continues to improve by leaps and bounds with every outing, is the weak link here, and the Kings of Destruction take advantage of that. Their game plan becomes obvious early, keep Akiyama in their half of the ring, and “big brother” Kobashi on the apron and out of the match.
Hash and Dangerous K are known the world over as two of the most dominant strikers in the sport, but they can also take an insane amount of punishment, and keep fighting back! Akiyama throws everything he’s got at the two men, and does get in plenty of offense, but when the Kings of Destruction take over, they pummel him without mercy!
However, when Kobashi is finally able to enter the match, he shows off his fighting spirit, taking everything Kawada and Hashimoto throw at him, and continuing to fight back!
As we pass the 20-minute mark, Akiyama again finds himself in trouble, in the wrong part of the ring, and Kobashi has to come in several times to break up pinfalls. Akiyama shows signs of life though, when he blocks a Brainbuster attempt from Hashimoto, and ends up hitting a picture-perfect belly to belly suplex, with Hash almost landing on the top of his head! Hashimoto is stunned, and when Akiyama covers him, Hash kicks out at the very last second!
Hashimoto quickly goes back on offense though, and after wearing Akiyama down some more, this time he connects with a brutal Brainbuster, and gets the 1, 2, 3!
Before the next match, we see a short clip from last week, of Stan Hansen issuing a challenge to the winner of the King’s Crown title match later tonight.
STAN HANSEN defeats TERRY “BAMM BAMM” GORDY. Last week, Hansen and Scott Norton steam-rolled their junior heavyweight opponents, but this week, Hansen is going to have a tougher time with Terry Gordy! These two men were tag team partners and frequent opponents in AJPW in the late 80s, and as a result, they are extremely familiar with each other.
Hansen and Gordy tear into each other, and we’re treated to a wild brawl! The momentum goes back and forth here, and they spent almost as much time brawling on the arena floor as they do in the ring!
In the end, Hansen hits a devastating Lariat as we near the 20-minute mark, to put Gordy down for the 1, 2, 3!
It’s main event time! Before the start of the match, ring announcer Hidekazu Tanaka introduces a special guest . . . new WWK Commissioner Jumbo Tsuruta!
Tsuruta is carrying the brand new King’s Crown championship belt!
Jumbo reads a “royal proclamation”, outlining the rules for the match, and stating that the winner will be crowned the very first King’s Crown champion!
The participants are then announced, with several women presenting Misawa and Fujinami with flowers.
KING’S CROWN DETERMINATION MATCH:
MITSUHARU MISAWA (w/ Keiji Muto, Kenta Kobashi & Jun Akiyama) defeats “THE DRAGON” TATSUMI FUJINAMI (w/ Antonio Inoki, Riki Choshu & Manabu Nakanishi). This is the match that everyone in attendance in Nippon Budokan, and watching at home on NTV, has been waiting for! The winner of this match will be crowned the very first King’s Crown champion!
Misawa and Fujinami stand nose to nose before the bell, jawing back and forth. When the bell rings, they tear into each other! Fujinami gains a quick advantage, and uses his technical wrestling prowess to keep Misawa on the mat, working him over. Misawa soon battles back, stunning Fujinami with elbow strikes, before hitting a dropkick that sends Fujinami through the ropes and to the floor. As the Dragon gets back to his feet on the floor, Misawa dives through the ropes, sending Fuji crashing into the barricade around ringside!
Misawa then sends Fujinami into the ring apron, before rolling him back inside the ring. Misawa works over Fujinami, and even though the Dragon gets some shots in, Misawa stays in control. That changes when Misawa blocks a Tiger Suplex attempt, backdrops Misawa to the mat, and then kicks him in the head! Misawa is woozy, and Fujinami takes advantage. He hits the Dragon Suplex, but Misawa still has enough energy to kick out of a pinfall attempt.
Fujinami continues to work over Misawa, but eventually Mitsuharu fights back, stunning Fuji with elbow and forearm strikes. Misawa goes for another Tiger Suplex, and this time he hits the move! Misawa goes for a cover, but Fujinami kicks out! The action continues to go back and forth, as both men try to become the first ever King’s Crown champion!
As we near the 30-minute mark, both men kick it up a notch, and we see several big moves and nearfalls! Fujinami hits another Dragon Suplex, but again Misawa kicks out of a pin attempt! Misawa then runs the ropes and hits the Rolling Elbow! Fujinami is stunned, and Misawa hoists him up for the Tiger Driver! He hits it, and covers Fujinami!

Mitsuharu Misawa has pinned the legend Tatsumi Fujinami in the middle of the ring to become the first King’s Crown champion!
Fujinami is slow to get up, but when he does, he goes over to Misawa . . . and offers his hand!
Misawa takes it, and the two men shake hands! Fujinami then straps the title belt around Misawa’s waist, and raises his hand!
Wakabayashi, Fukuzawa and Takeuchi wrap things up, and hype next week’s show, which will feature matches from the final night of the tour, at the Osaka-jō Hall. On that show, we’ll see a match for the very first Tag Team Crown, between the Kings of Destruction and the Miracle Violence Connection!
