They welcome us back to Sapporo for this week’s episode of NTV’s World Wrestling Kingdom!
This week, we’ll see the Can-Am Express in action against Yoshinari Ogawa and Tamon Honda!
Kenta Kobashi meets Dan Spivey!
Last week, the Miracle Violence Connection called out any team that thought they could give them competition. Shinya Hashimoto and Toshiaki Kawada answered that challenge! They’ll meet in a tag team match on September 3 in Osaka, but today, they’ll meet in singles matches. Williams will square off with Kawada, and Hashimoto will meet Gordy!
And, in the feature bout, two men that have met before, and always give the fans a great match, Mitsuharu Misawa squares off with Stan “the Lariat” Hansen!
THE CAN-AM EXPRESS: DAN KROFFAT & DOUG FURNAS defeat YOSHINARI OGAWA & TAMON HONDA. The Can-Ams fell to Hashimoto and Kawada last week, but they redeem themselves today, as they get the win over Ogawa and Honda when Furnas hits Honda with a brutal Frankensteiner for the 1, 2, 3!
KENTA KOBASHI defeats DAN SPIVEY. Kobashi has spent his career so far as the underdog, and that doesn’t change here, as Spivey towers over him. But once the bell rings, Kobashi takes the fight to Spivey, and it seems he caught the big man off-guard! Spivey soon turns the tables, but the fans in attendance are clearly behind Kobashi. Spivey uses his size and power advantage to punish Kobashi, but Kenta keeps fighting back! The fans cheering gets louder and louder every time he kicks out of a pin attempt!
In the end, Kobashi blocks a Powerbomb attempt, instead back-dropping Spivey to the mat. Kobashi wears Spivey down, hits a double-arm DDT, then heads to the top rope for a Moonsault. That’s enough to get him the 1, 2, 3!
We go to backstage comments from Mitsuharu Misawa, who’s joined by Keiji Muto, Kenta Kobashi and Jun Akiyama.
Misawa says that he has a lot of respect for Tatsumi Fujinami. He considers the Dragon the best of the previous generation, and says that there’s no one he’d rather face for the King’s Crown than Fujinami.
However, he believes that Fujinami’s time has passed, and now it’s time for this new generation of wrestlers, like himself, Muto and Kobashi, to take their spot at the top of the cards.
Then we go to Fujinami backstage. He’s joined by Riki Choshu and Antonio Inoki.
Fujinami says that he’s worked his ass off to get to this point, a multiple-time champion and the opportunity to be considered among the very best in the history of puroresu! He says that if Misawa, or anyone else, wants his spot, all they have to do is take it from him in the ring!
Wakabayashi says that’s going to be a great match, between one of, maybe THE, best of the last 20 years in Tatsumi Fujinami, and a man that many consider to be the best wrestler of this generation, Mitsuharu Misawa! They’ll meet as part of a 6-man tag team match on next week’s program, and then the following week will be the big one, the one on one match between Misawa and Fujinami, to crown the very first King’s Crown champion!
“DR DEATH” STEVE WILLIAMS defeats TOSHIAKI KAWADA. Williams seems to be in a bad mood here, as he jaws with, and even kicks at, the young lions coming to the ring with Kawada, including Satoshi Kojima and Manabu Nakanishi. This doesn’t sit well with Kawada, and he tears into Williams with a ferociousness that we haven’t seen a lot of from him in the past.
On commentary, it’s noted that on the final date of the tour, Williams and his tag team partner Terry Gordy will face Kawada and Shinya Hashimoto in a match to crown the first Tag Team Crown champions. The other members of that match will meet one on one later on today as well.
Kawada enjoys the early advantage, but Doc soon turns the tables and pummels Kawada. Williams seems to have the match in hand, but every time he goes for a big move to try to put Kawada away, Dangerous K is able to block it. Kawada hits an enziguri out of nowhere, but Williams kicks out at 1! A few minutes later, Williams hits the Oklahoma Stampede, but Kawada kicks out! Doc takes it up a notch, and hits the Doctor Bomb . . . but Kawada kicks out at 2!
Williams seems to be getting a little frustrated by his inability to put Kawada down for the count. He goes for another Doctor Bomb, but Kawada gets out of it, and hits a Lariat for a 2-count!
Williams manages to connect on a second Doctor Bomb, but Kawada kicks out again! This time, Doc hooks Kawada for what looks to be a suplex, but he drives Kawada right down on the top of his head! Kawada sells it like he’s dead! The announcers go crazy, and Williams covers Kawada for the 1, 2, 3!
SHINYA HASHIMOTO defeats TERRY “BAMM BAMM” GORDY. The other members of that epic upcoming tag team clash face off now, as Hash and Gordy go one on one. Gordy’s partner Dr Death was successful in the last match over Kawada, and Gordy is looking to continue that success here. However, it’s not too be, as Hashimoto takes everything Gordy can throw at him, and continues to batter the American.
In the end, Gordy has the advantage, and goes for the Powerbomb, but Hash backdrops him, and then connects with an absolutely brutal kick to the head! Gordy is stunned, and Hashimoto hits him with his jumping DDT for the 1, 2, 3!
MITSUHARU MISAWA defeats STAN “THE LARIAT” HANSEN. This is a brutal, hard-hitting match right from the word go! The fans are into it, and they go crazy every time either man hits a big move!
Hansen’s gameplan early on seem to be to get Misawa down, and just pound him into submission. He drops Misawa with a suplex, and puts the boots to him, before dropping a big elbow off the ropes! Hansen then pulls Misawa up into a sitting position, and just rains down elbows to the top and side of Misawa’s head! Misawa is in a bad way now, he’s stunned, and doesn’t seem able to get anything going.
Hansen goes for his Lariat, but Misawa is able to avoid it, and comes back with a Rolling Elbow! Hansen is stunned . . . BUT HE DOESN’T GO DOWN!!! Misawa hits another elbow smash, and this time Hansen goes down, but when Misawa covers him, Hansen kicks out at 2!
Misawa hits a THIRD Rolling Elbow, and this time, he manages to keep Hansen down for the 1, 2, 3!
Misawa gets the win, but he knows he was in a war, as he took a brutal beating, and he’s still a little unsteady on his feet as he leaves the ring and heads to the locker room.
Wakabayashi, Fukuzawa and Takeuchi wrap things up, and hype next week’s show, which will see Misawa, Kenta Kobashi and youngster Jun Akiyama in 6-man tag team match against Tatsumi Fujinami, Antonio Inoki and Riki Choshu!.
