They welcome us to Sapporo for this week’s episode of NTV’s World Wrestling Kingdom!
This week, we’ll see some great junior heavyweight action, as Jushin Thunder Liger teams up with the Great Sasuke to face Shinjiro Otani and Yoshinari Ogawa!
Genichiro Tenryu meets youngster Hiroyoshi Tenzan!
The Kings of Destruction, Shinya Hashimoto and Toshiaki Kawada face the Can-Am Express, Dan Kroffat and Doug Furnas!
In tag team action, the Miracle Violence Connection, Steve Williams and Terry Gordy, face a tough tag team in former IWGP tag team champs Hiroshi Hase and Kensuke Sasaki!
And, the feature bout will see Mitsuharu Misawa, Keiji Muto and Kenta Kobashi face Stan Hansen, Scott Norton and Danny Spivey!
JUSHIN THUNDER LIGER & THE GREAT SASUKE defeat SHINJIRO OTANI & YOSHINARI OGAWA. Liger and Sasuke are considered two of the very best junior heavyweights in wrestling today, and they show why here, as they put on a clinic against their younger opponents. Otani wrestles a more traditional junior style, similar to the 70s or 80s juniors. He doesn’t do much high-flying, instead wrestling a mat-based style, but at a lightning-quick pace! Ogawa tries to blend the two styles, wrestling mostly on the mat, but not afraid to take to the air either.
In the end, Liger pulls a fast one on Ogawa, playing possum as Ogawa heads to the top rope. When Ogawa attempts a Moonsault, Liger rolls out of the way, then hits Ogawa with his rolling Koppu kick, then delivers the Liger Bomb for the 1, 2, 3!
Before the next match, we go to backstage footage from last week’s show.
Tatsumi Fujinami and Riki Choshu question Genichiro Tenryu in the locker room about the way he conducted himself during their 6-man tag team match.
Tenryu just shrugs it off, saying he doesn’t care whether Fujinami and Choshu like his attitude or not, before walking off.
GENICHIRO TENRYU defeats HIROYOSHI TENZAN. Tenzan has shown a lot of promise since coming back from excursion late last year, but today, he’s up against the rugged veteran Tenryu. Tenryu shows the same disrespect to Tenzan that he showed in the 6-man tag match last week. When he has the upper hand, he slaps Tenzan around, and taunts him.
Tenzan is a powerful guy, and he fights back, but it doesn’t last long, as Tenryu again takes control of the match. In the end, Tenryu gets the win after hitting a vicious enziguri and then follows that up with his diving back elbow off the middle turnbuckle for the 1, 2, 3!
Afterwards, it looks like Tenryu has had a change of heart, as he helps Tenryu up . . . but then he just slaps him right down to the mat again, then laughs as he leaves the ring.
THE KINGS OF DESTRUCTION: SHINYA HASHIMOTO & TOSHIAKI KAWADA defeat THE CAN-AM EXPRESS: DAN KROFFAT & DOUG FURNAS. Kroffat and Furnas put up a good fight here, but in the end, they fall in defeat when Hashimoto drops Furnas on his head with a vicious Brainbuster for the 1, 2, 3!
THE MIRACLE VIOLENCE CONNECTION: TERRY “BAMM BAMM” GORDY & “DR. DEATH” STEVE WILLIAMS defeat HIROSHI HASE & KENSUKE SASAKI. The Miracle Violence Connection look dominant again this week, although they have a lot stiffer competition in former 2-time IWGP tag team champs Hiroshi Hase and Kensuke Sasaki. Hase is very talented on the mat, and Sasaki can match the power of Williams and Gordy.
Hase and Williams start out, and they go hold for hold on the mat and put on a clinic. Gordy tags in and uses his power to overwhelm Hase, who quickly tags in Sasaki. The match goes in a different direction now, as Sasaki and Gordy just tear into each other, both men hitting some big power moves.
The action goes back and forth, but as we pass the 15-minute mark, the MVC takes control of the match. Gordy pummels Hiroshi Hase, then tags Williams in and Doc takes over, pounding Hase into the mat!
After wearing Hase down, Williams hits him with the Doctor Bomb for the 1, 2, 3!
After the match, Williams and Gordy get on the house mic. Williams wonders if there’s any team in Japan that can give them some real competition?
This brings out the Kings of Destruction, Shinya Hashimoto and Toshiaki Kawada!
Hash says that he and Kawada would be more than happy to shut Doc and Gordy up, and challenges them to a tag team match on the last show of the tour, September 3 in Osaka!
MITSUHARU MISAWA & KEIJI MUTO & KENTA KOBASHI defeat STAN HANSEN & SCOTT NORTON & DAN SPIVEY. There’s quite a difference in styles here, but the two teams still put on a great match for the fans in Sapporo! The action is non-stop from bell to bell. In the end, Keiji Muto gets the win for his team, connecting with a Moonsault Press on Spivey for the 1, 2, 3!
After the match, the commentary team mentions that the main event of next week’s show will feature Misawa and Hansen going one on one, which the fans definitely do not want to miss!
Wakabayashi, Fukuzawa and Takeuchi thank the fans for tuning in to this debut show, and then hype next week’s card.
