They welcome us to this week’s episode of MLW’s “TITANS OF THE RING”!
On tonight’s program . . .
Sgt Slaughter will be in action!
We’ll see the newest addition to Dallas Page’s “Diamond Mine”, the 6’7”, 300 lbs Diamond Studd!
“Cowboy” Scott Casey will be in action!
The Million Dollar Man, with Virgil in his corner, makes his in-ring debut!
The Killer Bees, Brian Blair and Jim Brunzell, will be in tag team action!
And, after what happened last week between Demolition and Mr Fuji’s team of the Powers of Pain, a match between the two teams has been signed for tonight’s show!
Plus, Brutus Beefcake will have Jake “the Snake” Roberts as his guest this week on The Barber Shop!
We’ll see another video of Mr Perfect!
And, we’ll hear from a tag team calling themselves The Outlaws, Hangman Jaggers and Black Bart!
SGT SLAUGHTER beats THE BROOKLYN BRAWLER. The Brawler is a mean, rugged individual, but Slaughter wears him down, and gets the win after locking the Brawler in the Cobra Clutch for the submission victory.
During the bout, we see an insert promo from Slaughter, talking about the Battle Riot match this Sunday, saying that he’ll win it and become Intercontinental champion!
We go to an “Update” segment with Mean Gene Okerlund.
Gene says that the Battle Riot ’90 special is coming up this Sunday night, from the Boston Gardens, and they’ve got some big matches scheduled for the show!
We’ll see the popular Bushwhackers, Luke and Butch, square off with Rhythm & Blues!
The Ugandan headhunter Kamala will meet “Cowboy” Scott Casey!
From there, we’ll see two big grudge matches . . . Hacksaw Jim Duggan faces The Big Bossman, and Brutus “the Barber” Beefcake will go one on one with Larry Zbyszko. Roddy Piper will be in Zbyszko’s corner, so Brutus will have to have eyes in the back of his head in that one!
And then the main event, the 30-man Battle Riot battle royal! Two wrestlers will start, and every two minutes after that, another wrestler will enter! The numbers are drawn at random, and the winner of the match will become the first MLW Intercontinental champion!
We hear comments from several wrestlers that will be involved. The Ultimate Warrior says that the other 29 men will feel the power of the Warrior, as he throws them all over the top rope on his way to victory! Ted Dibiase is very confident, saying that his victory is guaranteed, because every one has a price for the Million Dollar Man!
Mean Gene wonders what Dibiase is talking about, that everyone has a price, and how that plays into the Battle Royal?
Okerlund says that it all happens LIVE on the USA Network this Sunday night, January 28!
THE DIAMOND STUDD (w/ Diamond Dallas Page) beats BARRY ORTON. The Diamond Studd is a big, powerful man. He’s announced at 6’7” and 300 lbs, and he throws Orton around like a ragdoll! The Studd delivers what the commentators call the “Diamond Drop” a choke slam, before covering Orton by placing a boot on his chest for the 1, 2, 3!
Vince says that it’s time for another Mr Perfect video! This time, Perfect is at a bowling alley, and claims that he will bowl a perfect game!
“COWBOY” SCOTT CASEY defeats NICK DECARLO. Casey came up short last week when he faced Mr Perfect in the main event, but he gets back on track here, as he hits a running Bulldog on DeCarlo for the 1, 2, 3!
During the bout, we see an insert promo from Casey, talking about the Battle Riot battle royal, and says that he is going to do his best to win!
After the bout, Mean Gene Okerlund is at the interview podium with The Outlaws: Hangman Jaggers and Black Bart.
Mean Gene asks them about coming to Major League Wrestling, but both men seem more interested in “Cowboy” Scott Casey as he leaves the ring after his win.
Bart asks Gene about Scott Casey, he says that he and the Hangman are from the Wild West, he’s from Texas and the Hangman’s from Kansas. They’ve known true cowboys, men who are rough and rugged, but this Scott Casey, from what Bart can see, he’s too much of a sissy to be a real cowboy!
Hangman laughs, and says Bart’s right. He says that Casey wouldn’t cut it in their neck of the woods!
As Casey is walking towards the back, Bart and Jaggers decide to go confront him!
There’s a lot of jawing back and forth, but the Killer Bees, on their way out for the next match, get in between Casey and the Outlaws before things get physical.
Black Bart doesn’t take kindly to that, and tells Blair and Brunzell that the next time they stick their noses in the Outlaws’ business, they’re going to get a butt-whoopin’!
THE KILLER BEES: BRIAN BLAIR & JIM BRUNZELL beat AL DENNISON & GEORGE SOUTH. The Bees get the win when Brunzell pinned Dennison after both he and Blair hit Dennison with a double dropkick.
During the bout, we see an insert promo from the Killer Bees, talking about the Battle Riot battle royal. Blair says that there are no friends in the Battle Riot, and says that if he gets the opportunity, he’ll throw Brunzell over the top! Brunzell agrees, and says that it’s every man for himself in the Battle Riot!
THE MILLION DOLLAR MAN (w/ Virgil) beats LARRY LANE. Dibiase makes his in-ring debut, and it’s a successful one, as he locks Lane in the Million $ Dream sleeperhold at the 1-minute mark. Lane tries to fight it, but he fades quickly, and after his arm drops three times, the referee awards the match to Dibiase!
Afterwards, Dibiase stuffs a dollar bill into Lane’s mouth, though once Dibiase turns away, Virgil grabs the bill and sticks it in his pocket.
Vince, Jesse and Gorilla send us to Brutus Beefcake, for this week’s edition of The Barber Shop!
Brutus welcomes us to The Barber Shop, and introduces his guest this week . . . Jake “the Snake” Roberts!
Roberts comes out, and Brutus says that at different times in his career, Jake has been on both sides of the fence, he’s been loved by the fans, and also hated by them! He says that, judging by the response when Jake came out just now, it’s safe to say that he’s one of the most popular wrestlers around right now!
Jake says that if the fans want to cheer for him, that’s fine with him, but it really makes no difference, he’s here to win championships, that’s what’s important.
Jake says that he’ll be taking part in the Battle Riot battle royal, and he expects to come out the winner, no matter what number he draws.
Brutus wishes him luck, and sends us back to Vince, Jesse and Gorilla.
Vince says that he wouldn’t bet against Jake Roberts, the Snake is one of the most cerebral competitors in all of sports entertainment, and he loves playing mind games with his opponents.
DEMOLITION: AXE & SMASH defeat THE POWERS OF PAIN: WARLORD & BARBARIAN (w/ Mr Fuji) by Disqualification. This is a wild, hard-hitting affair that sees plenty of offense from both teams.
Late in the match, there’s a ref bump, and Mr Fuji gets up on the apron, looking to give his Powers of Pain an advantage. As Fuji attempts to hit Axe with his cane, Axe grabs the cane from Fuji, and knocks the Devious One to the floor!
Axe then hits both Warlord and Barbarian with the cane, and tosses it from the ring just as the referee is getting back to his feet.
Fuji then gets back up on the apron, and as Axe comes over to him again, Fuji throws a handful of powder into Axe’s eyes, blinding him!
The referee sees this, and calls for the bell, but the POP and Fuji don’t care. With Axe blinded, Fuji, Warlord and Barbarian triple-team Smash! He tries to fight them off, but the numbers advantage is just too much, and they leave him laying on the mat! Axe has started to regain his sight, but all three men now attack him, and leave him laying beside Smash, flat on the mat!
Vince, Gorilla and Jesse wrap things up, and hype next week’s show, as well as Sunday night’s Battle Riot ’90 event from the Boston Garden, where the first MLW Intercontinental champion will be crowned!
