10/16/96 - Cassell Coliseum Blacksburg, VA
"Mean" Gene Okerlund and "The Genius" Lanny Poffo welcome us to the Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Virginia for another exciting edition of Eastern Championship Wrestling! They then begin talking about last week's show which included "The Dark Prophet" Brimstone showing up for the first time since his betrayal of Papa Shango at September to Remember; only to attack him again! We're sure to hear more on this ongoing situation later tonight. Also "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero made his in-ring debut, Ron Simmons attacked Eastern States Champ Chris Benoit; and Tag-Team Champions Tommy Dreamer and Dusty Rhodes announced that Destruction Inc. will be getting their shot at their Titles right her tonight!
They then run down the rest of tonight's huge card which will see ECW Champion "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson in non-Title action, Rob Van Dam and Rick Rude are set to meet Tully Blanchard and Scott Taylor in Tag-Team action and in a huge Tag-Team Main Event "The Dark Prophet" Brimstone and Pogo the Clown will meet "The Soul Stealer" Papa Shango and a partner of his choosing! That's a whole lot of Tag-Team action!
Just then however Ron Simmons appears on the ramp! Ron Simmons says that he's tired of this shit. He's sick of games. This past Saturday he didn't want that little bitch Porteau in the ring. He wanted "The Crippler." One on one. And instead he gets attacked from behind again. So is that how it's going to be? Is Chris Benoit scared of facing off with a former All-American, a two time Heavyweight Champion man to man? Is Chris Benoit just another punk ass bitch?!
Just then "White Train" by Tito & Tarantula hits and out from the back comes ECW President Eric Bischoff! Ron wants to know what this is? Is Benoit hiding behind ECW management now? Eric says that's not it at all. He's out here tonight and one thing everyone should know by now is when "Easy E" is out here, it can only mean one thing. Business is at Hand! And tonight that business is the Eastern States Championship! You see Eric has seen what's been going on and he wouldn't be "All-Class" if he kept letting Ted DiBiase play his little game. So he's making a match right here tonight. Ron Simmons versus Chris Benoit! If Simmons wins he'll be given his chance at the Title! And if "The Crippler" doesn't come out here he's going to be stripped of the Title! And he'd better hurry on out, because that match is coming right now!
Match: Chris Benoit vs. Ron Simmons
Referee: S.D. Jones
Ron Simmons heads down to the ring in his street clothes. He looks pleased but very determined as he paces about the ring while being joined by the ref. It looks like the match may not happen for a minute when the Talking Heads hits and out from the back comes "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase who is holding the Eastern States Championship for "The Canadian Crippler" Chris Benoit who wastes no time tossing aside his trenchcoat as he charges down the ramp and slides into the ring! There's an explosion of fists as Benoit and Simmons begin pounding the hell out of one another! But Ron backs "The Crippler" into the corner and soon he's unloading on the Eastern States Champ! He has Chris retreating toward the ropes as Simmons follows him beating him around the ring with some massive forearm shots! Okerlund says it isn't very often you see someone getting the power advantage on Benoit, but that's looks exactly like what's happening here tonight! And a hard right hand drops Chris to the mat! Benoit won't stay down however and Ron pushes him back into the corner while hammering away before whipping him across the ring! Benoit hits the opposing corner hard and bouncing out gets caught in a rear headlock by big Ron Simmons who begins working over his neck.
But in desperation Chris drops down on his ass hitting Simmons with a surprise jawbreaker over the top of his head! Both men are down for a bit, but slowly get back up and Ron comes in with another hard right! But Benoit blocks it and hits one of his own! And another! And another! Simmons backs into the ropes and Chris goes for the whip; but Ron reverses it! And ducks for a big back body drop! Too early because "The Crippler" puts on the breaks and lets him have it with a kick to the face! Ron hits the canvas and Benoit grabs his legs before stomping a mudhole in his gut! He then twists up his legs and locks in the Sharpshooter! Ron is screaming in pain as Benoit pulls back!
But he's fighting it clawing his way to the ropes! After a while though Chris ain't budging and Ron tries to turn over! It takes a couple attempts; but he does it throwing Benoit into the ropes! Ron is back up on some shaky legs and Chris charges in! Only to get pounded into the mat with a snap scoop powerslam! Simmons is unable to make the cover, but crawls to the corner and with some difficulty he climbs up top! Simmons leaps off with a clothesline! But Benoit nails him in the gut with a hard right hand! Quick leg drop from Benoit before he begins once again working on Ron's legs. Simmons knows he's in trouble and scrambles to his feet but Benout is right on top of him hammering him into the corner. Quitting the Chops, Chris begins punishing Ron with some kicks! He pulls him out of the corner and is looking for a suplex, but Ron hits him with a shoulder thrust! And another! And Ron is back up on his feet! He grabs Chris by the head and charging into the corner slams him face first into the turnbuckle! Benoit looks dazed as Ron Simmons rears back and connects with a thrust spinebuster! Benoit goes down hard! And Ron makes the cover! But Chris rakes his eyes and rolls out of the ring!
Simmons recovers on the inside while Benoit staggers about the ring catching his breath. The ref begins the 10 count but only reaches 5 before Ron has joined the Champion on the outside! Simmons grabs Chris from behind, but Benoit turns with a short kick to the gut and begins wailing on him! Ron retreats into the guardrail where Chris grabs him by the head and attempts to introduce him to a face full of steel! But Simmons blocks it! Back elbow to Chris and he's got a front headlock locked in! And he gets Benoit up and over! Hitting a delayed vertical suplex on the outside! The count has reached six and Ron pulls Benoit to his feet to roll him back inside. But "The Crippler" stops at the apron and slams Simmons head into it! He then rolls him inside and reaching under the ring pulls out a steel chair!
He slides into the ring with it and S.D. Jones attempts to stop him, but Chris pulls it away and slams it across the back of Ron! He does it again and Jones calls for the DQ! Benoit hits him a third time before throwing the chair down on the canvas and hoisting Ron to his feet goes for the powerbomb onto the steel chair! But Ron battles out of it and scoops Chris up off his feet before turning toward the chair and hits a powerslam right onto it! Ron lets out a triumphant growl, but Chris has had enough and rolls from the ring! Alex Porteau has appeared at ringside and helps Benoit to his feet, but the Eastern States Champ pushes him away and heads up the ramp backwards eyeballing Simmons whil the big man hollers at him from inside the ring.

Match: Taka Michinoku vs. Chris Harris
Referee: Danny Davis
Chris Harris gets some offense in here, but it's mostly a showcase for Taka Michinoku's offense. He gets a two count off a Tornado DDT before finishing Harris off for good with the Michinoku Driver.
After the break we're taken down to the boiler room of the Bob Carpenter Center where "The Soul Stealer" Papa Shango is once again raving about the betrayal of the Dark Circle at the hands of "The Dark Prophet" Brimstone who attacked him again last week! With the help of that oaf Pogo the Clown and the hag Luna Vachon no less! Two souls tied to none other than the leader of the Circus of Doom; "The Ring Master" Matt Borne! Borne tells Shango he had nothing to do with it and was just as betrayed as he was! He begs him to pick him to get vengeance against the traitors here tonight!
Shango however says he isn't a fool! That he has spoken to th Dark Lord at length! And that "The Ring Master" is not to be trusted! At this point Barry Windham grabs him by the back of his neck and "The Soul Stealer" opens the boiler showing the flames! He tells Borne that his judgment is at hand! He then grabs Borne by the hand while the rest of the Dark Circle looks on and moves to stick in in the furnace! Borne is begging him to stop and still pleading he is innocent! Papa Shango suddenly stops.
He smiles menacingly as Borne whom he warns that he hopes he is right. That while Papa wishes to believe him, the Dark One does not! But Shango is known for being a forgiving man... So he shall give Borne a chance to prove his loyalty right here tonight! But if he should fail... the flames he shall meet! Shango laughs maniacaly as ECW goes to...

ECW Correspondent Terri Runnels is in front of the ECW Banner with "Mr. Wednesday Night" Rob Van Dam and "Ravishing" Rick Rude talking about their newly formed Tag-Team. Rude says that when you have to pinnacles of perfection in this sport like him and RVD it's only natual that they kill one another or form an alliance. He says that the statistics don't lie Terri. At Showdown in Charlotte? They beat The Dark Circle AND The Dungeon of Doom. And at September to Remember? They beat the best DiBiase had to offer. So it's only a matter of time before they get a shot at the Tag-Team Titles and all winning them will take is 1-2-3! Rob agrees calling themselves the Batman and Robin of wr-, no... wait bro. The Batman and Superman of wrestling. Cause while some might call them a dynamic duo; one thing no one can dispute is that Rob Van Dam and Rick Rude together are the World's Finest. Rude likes it. But says he isn't wearing a cape.
Match: The World's Finest vs. Tully Blanchard & Scott Taylor
Referee: S.D. Jones
The team of Tully Blanchard and Scott Taylor more than hold there own in this one. Taylor starts things off with Rob Van Dam whom he hits with the high impact chop drop off the top; setting him up for the superkick for a two count! He's out-classed by Van Dam however who sends Scott sailing with a monkey flip before laying him flat with the Rolling Thunder! That and a step-over spinning heel kick only get him a pair of twos however. And Scott makes the tag to Tully Blanchard!
He and Scott work as a well oiled unit double-teaming RVD for a bit before Blanchard hits him with a slingshot suplex that gets him close to a three count. Rob kicks out just in time however and rallies back taking the fight to Tully whom he hits with a leaping crossbody before tagging in Rick Rude!
"The Ravishing One" has an immediate advantage over Blanchard which he uses to get several nearfalls. Tully keeps battling back however and gets a couple of his own before locking in the figure four on "The Ravishing One!" Rude however reverses the hold sending Tully crawling to the ropes after which they both make the hot tag out! Rob and Scott charge one another and they battle it out before Taylor goes for another superkick which Van Dam dodges and counters with a bridging Northern Lights Suplex! 1!... 2!... Scott kicks out just before the three! He then goes for the 5 Star Frog Splash, but Rude is looking for the tag!
He gets it, but RVD still goes up top and hits it! Rob rolls out of the ring while Taylor staggers to his feet only to get laid out flat by the Rude Awakening delayed hangman's neckbreaker! Rude makes the cocky cover with his elbow propped up on Scott's chest while blowing Tully a mocking kiss and gets it! Jones raises Rude and RVD's hands in victory.

Match: Arn Anderson vs. Steve Blackman
Referee: Danny Davis
After both competitors are inside the ring, the # 1 Contender at Wrestle Annual III; Chris Jericho swaggers on down to ringside with a bullhorn?!
He immediately begins shouting directions at the ECW Champion and Arn Anderson looks pretty pissed. The "old man" is more distracted than anything allowing "The Silent Assassin" Steve Blackman to capitalize with several well-placed kicks while Jericho tells Arn to "duck," "go for the Spinebuster;" and several times asks him if he's blind. Blackman isn't smiling, (is he ever) but he isn't complaining either as he hits "The Enforcer" with a bridged Fisherman's suplex getting a nearfall. Arn has had enough and begins ordered Chris to go to the back only to get grabbed from behind by Steve. Arn however is done playing around with him as well and takes out his frustrations on Steve beating him about the ring while Jericho yells at him before hitting the Gourdbuster inverted suplex slam on Blackman for the win. Jericho immediately begins congratulating "old fat ass" but Arn Anderson hops out of the ring and goes after him! He pounds on Chris for several seconds before Jericho hits Arn with the bullhorn to escape and Anderson chases him up the ramp.
COMMERCIAL BREAK
Back from break we're taken to another video update at the home of "Macho Man" Randy Savage!" He's busy working out on the bench press before he sits up and a beautiful woman comes up with a towel to wipe the sweat off him. "Thanks babe," he watches her ass as she leaves. He then tells us that he's not just sitting at home idle. Ooooh no! That he's training himself both physically and mentally to be in the best shape of his life when he returns in a few weeks to put a major hurting on "The Canadian Crippler" brother amd reclaim the Eastern States Championship! Ooooooh Yeah!
Tag-Team Title Match: Dustin Rhodes & Tommy Dreamer vs. Destruction Inc.
Referee: S.D. Jones
Lanny is sure Randy only has his mind set on "recovery" after seeing the woman in the video whom Gene is sure is just Savage's personal trainer. The Tag-Team Champions then head down to the ring for this Title bout which sees Dustin Rhodes start things off with "The Machiavellan Mauler" Mongo Vyle! Destruction Inc. are on fire in this one, clearing determined to become two-time Tag Champs as Mongo puts a hurting on Rhodes whom he flattens with the Mongo Masher Full Nelson atomic drop! He tags in Rhino and the duo work over Dustin before laying him out with the Utter Destruction flapjack/cutter combo! And when Tommy attempts to make the save he ends up getting treated to the same! While Beulah McGillicutty checks on Dreamer whom Vyle has kicked out of the ring; Rhino makes the cover! 1!... 2!...
Dustin kicks out again! Throughout the match "The American Nightmare" has continually rallied back taking the fight to the Inc. and gotten a couple pin attempts of his own. Whipped into the corner Rhodes is in pretty rough shape though when "The Man-Beast" charges in and connects with The Gore striking spear! He hooks the leg! 1!... 2!...
Rhodes kicks free again! Rhino can't believe it! He hammers Dustin into the corner again and brualizes him with several shoulders thrusts before charging in for a second Gore! This time however Rhodes pulls himself out of harms way and Rhino collides with the steel ringpost! Dustin capitalizes with a bulldog before tagging in Tommy Dreamer!
Dreamer immediately connects with a leg drop on Rhino and makes the cover, but only comes away with a two. The freshest man in the match he hammers away on "The Man-Beast" while Beulah plays nurse to Dustin in their corner. Tommy hits a DDT on Rhino but he kicks out again at two and when Dreamer pulls him to his feet; Rhino thrusts Dreamer away across the ring! Tommy catches himself on the top rope and in charges Rhino who cuts him in half with the Gore striking spear! He then tags in big Mongo Vyle and the dup pulverize Dreamer before nailing him with a double suplex and going up top Vyle leaps off hitting a diving leg drop! Right into the canvas as Tommy rolls out of the way! And hoisting Vyle up onto his shoulder for the fireman's carry slam the big man is too much for "The Innovator of Violence" who drops him right on top of himself! And the cover is enough! 1!... 2!...
Dustin cracks Mongo over the head with a Bionic Elbow breaking it up! He begins slugging it out with Vyle, but Rhodes still isn't fully recovered and ends up getting clotheslined over the top! "The Mauler" then returns to Dreamer and begins hammering on him with some clubbing elbows and forearms when Tommy escapes with a kick to the gut, grabs a headlock; and drops his opponent with a DDT! He hooks the leg! But it isn't enough as Mongo powers out at two! Dreamer makes the tag to Dustin however and running the ropes he stops Vyle from making it to his corner with a lariat takedown! "The American Nightmare" then staggers to his feet, grabs the recovering Vyle and hits the Blackout kneeling facebuster! He hooks Vyle's legs and gets the 1!... 2!... 3! Rhodes and Dreamer have retained the Titles! Dustin rolls from the ring and limps up the ramp with Tommy and Beulah while a furious Rhino and Mongo vent their frustrations inside the ring.

So he'd like to call Homicide out here tonight to make amends. Homicide then limps out to the ring and getting inside looks weary of the duo; but doesn't back down either. Eddie says that last week Homicide took that beating like a Champ. And he has some balls climbing back into the ring with him and Hernandez again. Guy has got cajones man. So is everything cool esse? Homicide looks to Hernandez and then to Eddie. He takes Guerrero's hand...
But Eddie pulls him in! He tells Homicide that not leaving ECW with his tail between his legs? That also makes him loco. He and Hernandez then attack him! Homicide tries to put up a fight, but he's outnumbered and ends up getting stomped out by Guerrero and Hernandez! Just then however the fans begin cheering and someone rushes the ring and attacks Guerrero!
It's William Regal?! He's caught both Eddie and Hernandez offguard and lloking confused they vacate the ring! Eddie is telling Regal he's a dead man as ECW cuts to...

Lanny says that this all started over Brimstone stealing his gimmick and the Shango made a mistake here tonight turning down Poffo's offer to be his partner. Right. They then talk about the closing moments of ECW's big event several weeks ago September to Remember where Brimstone attacked Papa Shango just moments after "The Soul Stealer" was defeated at the hands of ECW Champion "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson! Poffo says that Brimstone made a big his own mistake that night, because he isn't getting in the ring with a Papa Shango who isn't 100% here tonight. And he assures us there'll be hell to pay!

Jones doesn't even get to ring the bell before Shango with a chilling war cry charges down to the ring, slides in and an explosion of fists hits the ring as he and Brimstone begin trading blows! "The Dark Prophet" is caught offguard and knocked off balance as Shango hammers him back into the ropes! And theatrically rearing around he takes Brimstone over the top rope with a brutal clothesline! But Brimstone grabs hold of him and Papa spills out to the floor as well! The two men continue their brawl on the outside with Brimstone reversing an attempted whip on Shango that sends him right into the steel!
Luna meanwhile orders Pogo the Clown into the ring and wants Jones to start the match! And after some hesitation he does it! Matt Borne looks a bit hesitant himself as he climbs into the ring but the match has begun. Pogo doesn't look like he knows what to do and Borne begins screaming at him! He is calling him a traitor and all sorts of names, some of them not fit for tv before he lets Pogo have it with a hard slap! He hammers away on the big man who is making wierd noises as he crawls around trying to escape around the ring! Luna is now yelling obscenities as well! Matt Borne is busy laughing as he kicks and punches Pogo about the ring, now illiciting boos from the crowd. And on the outside Brimstone has rallied back and the fighting is getting pretty close to the announcing table! They're hammering away on one another, Shango is still looking dominant when Brimstone pulls him in for a knee to the gut and then takes his head off with a clothesline! He then throws Papa onto the announcer's table sending Poffo and Okerlund running and Lanny can be heard that this isn't the Spanish Announcer's table you idiot! Brimstone climbs up on the table and is now setting Shango up for a powerbomb!
Pogo the Clown is scrambling on his hands and knees now and heads to his corner looking for some comfort. But none is received as she slaps him hard across the face and chastises him! Matt Borne isn't done however and grabs the Clown from behind but he stops short. Because Pogo has begun giggling! Pogo is now staring Borne down as he laughs maniacally and Matt gives us a really great "Oh shit" face as he waves his arms and backs away shaking his head. But it's too late as Pogo begins unloading on him, whips him into the ropes and Buries Him in the Basement! He makes the cover and he gets it! Brimstone and Shango have won this one! Speaking of which Shango fought his way out of the powerbomb and hops down from the announcer's table pulls Brimstone's feet out from under him! "The Dark Prophet" hits the table on his way down to the floor allowing Papa to capitalize with several elbow drops before turning toward the ring just in time to see Borne get Buried!
