10/8/89 TV, taped at the Sportatorium on 10/6/86:
Papa Shango defeats Mike George. “Dr. Death” Steve Williams is interviewed. He says that at the FRIGHT NIGHT PPV, he’s gonna take down the biggest man in Sheik Adnan’s Army, Kokina! Doc says that he knows that Papa Shango had something to do with what happened to him in the locker room a few weeks back and that sooner or later, he’ll get his hands on Shango, too! Finally, he tells Undisputed World Champion that even if he gets past Misawa at FRIGHT NIGHT, sooner of later, Dr. Death wants his title back and he’ll get it!
The Destruction Crew get an impressive win over Mr. Olympia and Mitch Snow. Olympia fives the heels some anxious moments, but Enos & Bloom get the win after the Wrecking Ball. In a post match interview, the Crew says that they are the team of the 90’s, not Ebony Experience. Enos & Bloom really slander Booker T, Stevie Ray, and their mentor, Junkyard Dog!
The Ebony Experience look ready to face the Destruction Crew at FRIGHT NIGHT! They defeat Jonathan Boyd and Ken Raper. The veteran Boyd doesn’t even get to tag in as Booker gets the pin on Raper after an ax kick. Boni Blackstone talks to Booker, Stevie, and JYD afterwards. They say that they will shut the Destruction Crew’s big mouths at FRIGHT NIGHT!
Les Thatcher does a Personality Profile on world famous Mil Mascaras. We see footage of Mil from Mexico, Japan, and even some clips from his movies, as Les fills us in on the masked wrestler’s storied career. Bill Watts says Mil has found time in his busy schedule to compete at FRIGHT NIGHT! Les says this is a special attraction you don’t want to miss!
The Fantastics look sharp as they tune up for their World Tag Title bout at FRIGHT NIGHT against New Sensation by wrestling Hollywood John Tatum and Johnny Hotbody. Fulton looks fully recovered as he pins Tatum after a sunset flip off the top rope. Afterwards, the Champions and Baby Doll are interviewed. Steve Keirn and Dennis Condrey appear confident to the point of arrogance. They say that they won’t just hold onto the belts, they’ll injure BOTH Fantastics at FRIGHT NIGHT!
New Sensation (w/Baby Doll) defeat Jim Powers & Tim Horner. Keirn pins Horner after the champs hit him with a flapjack. The Fantastics are interviewed. They say they are hitting on all cylinders and, with the support of the great fans, they know they can be champions once again!
Dick Slater, “The Ace” Bob Orton, and the Bonecrusher defeat Nightmares #1 & #2 and Manny Vialobos. Orton pins Nightmare #2 after a superplex. After the bout, Dusty & Dustin Rhodes do an interview. Dusty claims that he has never lost a Texas Bullrope match and that he’s confident that his son will also be unstoppable in this kind of match. Dustin says Orton won’t be able to superplex anybody when he’s tied to them in a bullrope at FRIGHT NIGHT! Dusty says that sooner or later, he’s gonna rip that mask off Bonecrusher and show everybody his ugly face!Father and son vow to run Slater and his pals out of the UWA!
Bill Watts stands in for Boni Blackstone in an interview with Sir Oliver Humperdink and his men, Rick Rude, Scott Hall, and Rick Martel. They say that Watts had better find new opponents for Rude and Hall at FRIGHT NIGHT, because, after tonight, the Von Erichs won’t be able to go! The House of Humperdink is set to wrestle the Von Erichs and Ronnie Garvin in tonight’s main event! Martel says he is sick and tired of Garvin and that he plans on taking care of him here tonight! Watts warns the heels about overconfidence and they laugh out loud!
Mitsuharu Misawa takes on Mike Jackson. Misawa puts on a real clinic here and gets the duke after a tiger suplex. Missy Hyatt is spotted in a ringside seat, scouting Misawa for her man, Megabucks Michael Rotunda.
2 Scold Scorpio actually teams up with World Junior Heavyweight Champion Jushin Liger, who Scorpio will challenge at FRIGHT NIGHT. The y take on Sam houston & Eddy Guerrero, two other top contenders for Liger’s belt. Several times, Scorpio and Liger’s attempts at teamwork backfire and they end up colliding or one accidentally hits the other. Finally, Liger pins Guerrero after a German suplex to pick up the win for his team. Referee David Manning mistakenly hands Liger’s belt to Scorpio. This misundertsnading nearly leads to the tow high flyers coming to blows. Houston, Guerrero, and Manning have to pull them apart! The title match at FIGHT NIGHT might have more heat than we initially expected!
The Main Event sees Kerry & Kevin Von Erich team up with Ron Garvin to take on House of Humperdink affiliates Ravishing Rick Rude, Scott “the Stud” Hall, and “the Model” Rick Martel. These guys have no love lost and the match is more of a brawl than a sporting contest. In the end, Rude pins Kevin after laying him out with brass knucks. An irate Kerry discus punches all three heels out of the ring after the match. Security has to separate the combatants! Lance says as the weather gets colder, things are heating up in the UWA!

Dusty and Dustin Rhodes team up with family friend “Ragin’ Bull” Manny Fernandez against Axl Rotten, Bob Bradley, & Brickchouse Brown. The Bull gets the pin for his team by pinning Rotten after a Flying Burrito. On commentary, Magnum says it’s good to see that the Rhodes Family had backup against Dick Slater, Bob Orton, & the Bonecrusher!
Papa Shango & Kokina (w/Sheik Adnan) take on Eddy Guerrero & Tim Horner. The faces use their speed to make things interesting, but Shango pins Horner after a boot to the face. In a post match interview, Adnan says that “Dr. Death” Steve Williams’ time in the UWA will soon be over. Adnan says his men are about to complete their end of the bargain! Boni Blackstone asks if this means that he made a deal with World Champion Michael Rotunda to eliminate Dr. Death from competition. Adnan tells her to mind her own business!
Speaking of Dr. Death, he teams up with Jumbo Tsuruta & Scott “Flash” Norton to take on three members of Adnan’s Army: Head Hunters A & B and Al Perez. It’s a hard fought match, but Williams pins Perez after the Oklahoma Stampede. Shango and Kokina come to ringside and Williams challenges them to enter the ring. Adnan pulls them away!
Junkyard Dog teams up with his proteges, the Ebony Experience, against the Destruction Crew and Magnificent Muraco, who the announce team say has been competing in Japan and Australia. The Destruction Crew and the Experience have been feuding recently and will meet at FRIGHT NIGHT. This match is a wild one and referee Tommy Gilbert has to call for a no contest!
American Champion Buddy Landel tunes up for his “Doomsday Dice” bout with Tito Santana at FRIGHT NIGHT by taking on Jim Powers. Powers makes things interesting, but Budro gets a convincing victory with a figure four leglock submission.
In a preview of the World Tag Team Title match at FRIGHT NIGHT, Fantastic Tommy Rogers takes on New Sensation member Steve Keirn( w/Baby Doll). These two seem very evenly matched and the ten minute time limit expires with no pinfall or submission, we have a draw!
Cowboy Bill Watts informs Boni that we have a very special program in two weeks. The show will begin with a Battle Royal. The order of elimination will determine the matches and the winner receives a Undisputed World Title match that same night! On tonight’s program, Kevin Von Erich defends his UWA TV Title against the Botswana Beast! Kevin comes out and says that the Beast has size and Adnan’s oil money, but he doesn’t have the Iron Claw and he doesn’t have all of these great UWA fans behind him like Kevin does!
Mitsuharu Misawa takes on Dr. X. Misawa overwhelms the masked man with his skill and pins him with a tiger suplex.
In an absolute clinic, Undisputed World Champion “Megabucks” Michael Rotunda (w/Missy Hyatt) takes on Dean Malenko. With two minutes remaining in the time limit, Rotunda gets the pin with a bridging belly to back suplex.
UWA TV Champion Kevin Von Erich defeats Botwana Beast (w/Sheik Adnan). Kevin takes a bunch of punishment from both the Beast and the Sheik, but gets the duke with a flying bodypress off the top rope. The Sportatorium crowd really gets into the match.

The Great Kokina(w/Sheik Adnan) defeats John Paul & Johnnie Stewart in a handicap match. In a postmatch interview, Adnan claims Kokina will eliminate Dr. Death at FRIGHT NIGHT!
Dick Slater & “the Ace” Bob Orton tune up for their double bullrope match against Dusty & Dustin Rhodes at FRIGHT NIGHT, by defeating Tim Horner and Joey Maggs. Orton pins Maggs after a superplex. After the match, the heels do an interview where Slater says Dusty must be a terrible father to put Dustin’s well being in danger by putting him in the match at FRIGHT NIGHT!
Bonecrusher, Slater’s and Orton’s ally in their war with the Rhodes family, looks mean and tough as he defeats Joe Cruz after a piledriver.
American Champion Buddy Landel takes on Chicky Starr in a non-title match. Landel pins the very game Starr after a corkscrew elbow. In a postmatch interview with Boni Blackstone, Landel shows a list of matches that the roll of the dice might bring about in the Doomsday Dice match with Tito Santana at FRIGHT NIGHT. Landel says regardless of what Tito rolls, the nature Boy will walk into Rupp Arena with the belt and he’ll leave with it, too!
World Junior Heavyweight Champion Jushin “Thunder” Liger takes on Jimmy Backlund. Liger wins with a top rope hurrancunrana. After the match, Liger’s FRIGHT NIGHT challenger, 2 Cold Scorpio is interviewed. Scorpio says he respects what Liger can do, but he’s taking that title!
Tito Santana, Junkyard Dog, & Eddy Guerrero take on Billy Joe Travis, Jeff Sword, & George South. During the match, Buddy Landel strolls to ringside. Budro rolls a pair of dice by the ring and taunts Tito until Santana chases him away! Guerrero pins South after a frog splash despite Landel’s antics.
Mitsuharu Misawa wrestles a tuneup for FRIGHT NIGHT against veteran luchador Fantasma. Misawa is extremely impressive, mixing technicla and aerial wrestling. Misawa pins the masked man after a missile dropkick. Les and Magnum both predict a new champion.
Boni interviews Undisputed World Champ “Megabucks” Michael Rotunda and Missy Hyatt. They both low rate Misawa and claim that Rotunda will hold the belt as long as he wants to. Boni asks if Rotunda has made a deal with Sheik Adnan to eliminate Dr. Death from contention. Rotunda asks why he should ask somebody else to do something that he looks forward to doing himself!
Michael Rotunda (w/Missy Hyatt) looks unbeatable as he pins Jim Powers after a Samoan drop. The commentators stick with their prediction of a Misawa title win at FRIGHT NIGHT!
“American Dream” takes on Al Perez (w/Sheik Adnan) after a hard fought bout, Rhodes is in control and he locks in the figure four! Dick Slater, Bob Orton, and Adnanenter the ring and attack Dusty and referee Carl Fergie calls for the bell! Amazingly, the Dream makes a comeback with punches and elbows on the heels! That’s when Bonecrusher hits the ring and nails Dusty from behind! The heels are battering Dusty. This looks bad! Hold on! Here comes Dustin! Dustin is swinging a chair and he’s not alone! The Von Erichs are right behind him the faces clear the ring! Afterward, the Von Erich/Rhodes contingent heads to the interview area. Dusty says he’s had enough of Slater, Orton, and Bonecrusher jumping him from behind! At FRIGHT NIGHT, they’ll be face to face and they’ll be tied to he and Dustin with Texas bullropes. Dusty is the KING of the bullrope matches, baby, and it’s risky business to tie yourselves to the other end of that rope! Dusty also says that he’s proud of Fritz’s boys here. Tonight in the Main Event, Dustin, Kerry, & Kevin will team up against three members of the Hoiuse of Humperdink. Rooster, I’ve busted your head before and if you try to cheat these young men tonight, I might just do it again! Kerry says that they are sick of these guys. They don’t respect our great fans and they disrespect ladies! We won’t be happy until then! They have to go to a commercial break before Kevin or Dustin get a chance to speak.
Kerry & Kevin Von Erich & Dustin Rhodes take on Rick Rude, Scott Hall, & Rick Martel (w/Sir Oliver Humperdink): It’s nearly impossible for referee David Manning to keep order in this one! In the only match not determined by the Battle Royal, the Destruction Crew took on the Head Hunters. Mike Enos pinned Head Hunter B after Wayne Bloom nailed the Head Hunter with a hard hat.
2 Cold Scorpio beat American Champion Buddy Landel by countout. Five minutes into the match, Tito Santana came walking through the crowd. This distracted the Nature Boy and Budro ran into the crowd after Tito! Referee David Manning had no choice but to count Landel out of the ring. In a post match interview, Landel said beating Tito wasn’t enough now, he wanted to break his leg!
Rick Rude(w/Sir Oliver Humperdink) scores a convincing win over Jim Powers. Rude gets the duke after a neckbreaker. Afterwards, he joins SOH and Scott Hall in the interview area and they put down the Von Erichs and say that after FRIGHT NIGHT, the fans will have to admit that Kerry and Kevin are LOSERS!
Tito Santana and Masahiro Chono put on quite a show for the fans in our next match. After several near falls for both men, Tito locks in the figure four to win! After the match, Buddy landel attacks Tito and it takes half the locker room to pull them apart!
In a preview of the World Tag Team Championship match at FRIGHT NIGHT, Bobby Fulton takes on Dennis Condrey (w/Baby Doll). It appears that Bobby is 100% back from his injury as he uses his quickness to keep Loverboy Dennis off balance. However, Condrey gets his hand raised in the end. Baby Doll hands Dennis a foreign object that he uses to cold cock Bobby for the 1-2-3! Afterwards, Tommy Rogers enters the ring to argue on his partner’s behalf, but Tommy Gilbert can’t call what he didn’t see….
In a hard hitting battle between rugged veterans, Jumbo Tsuruta takes on Magnificent Muraco. There are several near falls, but neither man gets a 1-2-3. The match ends in a 10minute draw.
Dustin Rhodes takes on family enemy Bonecrusher. Whoever Bonecrusher is behind the mask, he’s tough and brutal. The rapidly improving Rhodes has his hands full. Eventually, the brawl spills to the floor of the Sportatorium and referee Scott LeDoux has to count both men out!
Dusty Rhodes battles archenemy Dick Slater in our next bout!This is another wild one as the grizzled veterans brawl all over the arena! Dusty looks like he has the match won when Bob Orton jumps in and the heels gang up on Dusty! Dusty is making a comeback, but Bonecrusher attacks him and it’s a 3 on 1 beatdown! Here comes Dustin! The younger Rhodes is swinging a bullrope and manages to clear the ring of the heels! Magnum says he can’t wait to see the double bullrope match at FRIGHT NIGHT!
The Main Event sees “Megabucks” Michael Rotunda(w/Misy Hyatt) defend the Undisputed World Title against Steve “Dr. Death” Williams. Despite the bad feelings between these two, they start out with technical wrestling. Before long, tempers flare and the fight is on! The brawling favors Dr. Death and, before long, he is in charge. Then, Papa Shango walks down the aisle and stops about halfway between the entrance and the ring! The match goes to the floor and the champ is getting the worst of it! At that point, Papa Shango takes of his top hat and slaps his forehead three times! A few seconds later, Rotundo reverses an Irish whip and sends Dr. Death headfirst into the ring post! Doc is a bloody mess after that! Rotundo delivers a Samoan drop onto the floor and then rolls into the ring, beating Carl Fergie’s 20 count and getting the win! Papa Shango is laughing as he leaves the arena! Magnum and Les both say that they’ve never seen a situation like this!
Before we go off the air, Lance urges the fans to call their cable provider and order the FRIGHT NIGHT PPV!

Junkyard Dog teams up with his proteges, the Ebony Experience, against the Destruction Crew and Magnificent Muraco, who the announce team say has been competing in Japan and Australia. The Destruction Crew and the Experience have been feuding recently and will meet at FRIGHT NIGHT. This match is a wild one and referee Tommy Gilbert has to call for a no contest!
American Champion Buddy Landel tunes up for his “Doomsday Dice” bout with Tito Santana at FRIGHT NIGHT by taking on Jim Powers. Powers makes things interesting, but Budro gets a convincing victory with a figure four leglock submission.
In a preview of the World Tag Team Title match at FRIGHT NIGHT, Fantastic Tommy Rogers takes on New Sensation member Steve Keirn( w/Baby Doll). These two seem very evenly matched and the ten minute time limit expires with no pinfall or submission, we have a draw!
Cowboy Bill Watts informs Boni that we have a very special program in two weeks. The show will begin with a Battle Royal. The order of elimination will determine the matches and the winner receives a Undisputed World Title match that same night! On tonight’s program, Kevin Von Erich defends his UWA TV Title against the Botswana Beast! Kevin comes out and says that the Beast has size and Adnan’s oil money, but he doesn’t have the Iron Claw and he doesn’t have all of these great UWA fans behind him like Kevin does!
Mitsuharu Misawa takes on Dr. X. Misawa overwhelms the masked man with his skill and pins him with a tiger suplex.
In an absolute clinic, Undisputed World Champion “Megabucks” Michael Rotunda (w/Missy Hyatt) takes on Dean Malenko. With two minutes remaining in the time limit, Rotunda gets the pin with a bridging belly to back suplex.
UWA TV Champion Kevin Von Erich defeats Botwana Beast (w/Sheik Adnan). Kevin takes a bunch of punishment from both the Beast and the Sheik, but gets the duke with a flying bodypress off the top rope. The Sportatorium crowd really gets into the match.

Dick Slater & “the Ace” Bob Orton tune up for their double bullrope match against Dusty & Dustin Rhodes at FRIGHT NIGHT, by defeating Tim Horner and Joey Maggs. Orton pins Maggs after a superplex. After the match, the heels do an interview where Slater says Dusty must be a terrible father to put Dustin’s well being in danger by putting him in the match at FRIGHT NIGHT!
Bonecrusher, Slater’s and Orton’s ally in their war with the Rhodes family, looks mean and tough as he defeats Joe Cruz after a piledriver.
American Champion Buddy Landel takes on Chicky Starr in a non-title match. Landel pins the very game Starr after a corkscrew elbow. In a postmatch interview with Boni Blackstone, Landel shows a list of matches that the roll of the dice might bring about in the Doomsday Dice match with Tito Santana at FRIGHT NIGHT. Landel says regardless of what Tito rolls, the nature Boy will walk into Rupp Arena with the belt and he’ll leave with it, too!
World Junior Heavyweight Champion Jushin “Thunder” Liger takes on Jimmy Backlund. Liger wins with a top rope hurrancunrana. After the match, Liger’s FRIGHT NIGHT challenger, 2 Cold Scorpio is interviewed. Scorpio says he respects what Liger can do, but he’s taking that title!
Tito Santana, Junkyard Dog, & Eddy Guerrero take on Billy Joe Travis, Jeff Sword, & George South. During the match, Buddy Landel strolls to ringside. Budro rolls a pair of dice by the ring and taunts Tito until Santana chases him away! Guerrero pins South after a frog splash despite Landel’s antics.
Mitsuharu Misawa wrestles a tuneup for FRIGHT NIGHT against veteran luchador Fantasma. Misawa is extremely impressive, mixing technicla and aerial wrestling. Misawa pins the masked man after a missile dropkick. Les and Magnum both predict a new champion.
Boni interviews Undisputed World Champ “Megabucks” Michael Rotunda and Missy Hyatt. They both low rate Misawa and claim that Rotunda will hold the belt as long as he wants to. Boni asks if Rotunda has made a deal with Sheik Adnan to eliminate Dr. Death from contention. Rotunda asks why he should ask somebody else to do something that he looks forward to doing himself!
Michael Rotunda (w/Missy Hyatt) looks unbeatable as he pins Jim Powers after a Samoan drop. The commentators stick with their prediction of a Misawa title win at FRIGHT NIGHT!
“American Dream” takes on Al Perez (w/Sheik Adnan) after a hard fought bout, Rhodes is in control and he locks in the figure four! Dick Slater, Bob Orton, and Adnanenter the ring and attack Dusty and referee Carl Fergie calls for the bell! Amazingly, the Dream makes a comeback with punches and elbows on the heels! That’s when Bonecrusher hits the ring and nails Dusty from behind! The heels are battering Dusty. This looks bad! Hold on! Here comes Dustin! Dustin is swinging a chair and he’s not alone! The Von Erichs are right behind him the faces clear the ring! Afterward, the Von Erich/Rhodes contingent heads to the interview area. Dusty says he’s had enough of Slater, Orton, and Bonecrusher jumping him from behind! At FRIGHT NIGHT, they’ll be face to face and they’ll be tied to he and Dustin with Texas bullropes. Dusty is the KING of the bullrope matches, baby, and it’s risky business to tie yourselves to the other end of that rope! Dusty also says that he’s proud of Fritz’s boys here. Tonight in the Main Event, Dustin, Kerry, & Kevin will team up against three members of the Hoiuse of Humperdink. Rooster, I’ve busted your head before and if you try to cheat these young men tonight, I might just do it again! Kerry says that they are sick of these guys. They don’t respect our great fans and they disrespect ladies! We won’t be happy until then! They have to go to a commercial break before Kevin or Dustin get a chance to speak.
Kerry & Kevin Von Erich & Dustin Rhodes take on Rick Rude, Scott Hall, & Rick Martel (w/Sir Oliver Humperdink): It’s nearly impossible for referee David Manning to keep order in this one! In the only match not determined by the Battle Royal, the Destruction Crew took on the Head Hunters. Mike Enos pinned Head Hunter B after Wayne Bloom nailed the Head Hunter with a hard hat.
2 Cold Scorpio beat American Champion Buddy Landel by countout. Five minutes into the match, Tito Santana came walking through the crowd. This distracted the Nature Boy and Budro ran into the crowd after Tito! Referee David Manning had no choice but to count Landel out of the ring. In a post match interview, Landel said beating Tito wasn’t enough now, he wanted to break his leg!
Rick Rude(w/Sir Oliver Humperdink) scores a convincing win over Jim Powers. Rude gets the duke after a neckbreaker. Afterwards, he joins SOH and Scott Hall in the interview area and they put down the Von Erichs and say that after FRIGHT NIGHT, the fans will have to admit that Kerry and Kevin are LOSERS!
Tito Santana and Masahiro Chono put on quite a show for the fans in our next match. After several near falls for both men, Tito locks in the figure four to win! After the match, Buddy landel attacks Tito and it takes half the locker room to pull them apart!
In a preview of the World Tag Team Championship match at FRIGHT NIGHT, Bobby Fulton takes on Dennis Condrey (w/Baby Doll). It appears that Bobby is 100% back from his injury as he uses his quickness to keep Loverboy Dennis off balance. However, Condrey gets his hand raised in the end. Baby Doll hands Dennis a foreign object that he uses to cold cock Bobby for the 1-2-3! Afterwards, Tommy Rogers enters the ring to argue on his partner’s behalf, but Tommy Gilbert can’t call what he didn’t see….
In a hard hitting battle between rugged veterans, Jumbo Tsuruta takes on Magnificent Muraco. There are several near falls, but neither man gets a 1-2-3. The match ends in a 10minute draw.
Dustin Rhodes takes on family enemy Bonecrusher. Whoever Bonecrusher is behind the mask, he’s tough and brutal. The rapidly improving Rhodes has his hands full. Eventually, the brawl spills to the floor of the Sportatorium and referee Scott LeDoux has to count both men out!
Dusty Rhodes battles archenemy Dick Slater in our next bout!This is another wild one as the grizzled veterans brawl all over the arena! Dusty looks like he has the match won when Bob Orton jumps in and the heels gang up on Dusty! Dusty is making a comeback, but Bonecrusher attacks him and it’s a 3 on 1 beatdown! Here comes Dustin! The younger Rhodes is swinging a bullrope and manages to clear the ring of the heels! Magnum says he can’t wait to see the double bullrope match at FRIGHT NIGHT!
The Main Event sees “Megabucks” Michael Rotunda(w/Misy Hyatt) defend the Undisputed World Title against Steve “Dr. Death” Williams. Despite the bad feelings between these two, they start out with technical wrestling. Before long, tempers flare and the fight is on! The brawling favors Dr. Death and, before long, he is in charge. Then, Papa Shango walks down the aisle and stops about halfway between the entrance and the ring! The match goes to the floor and the champ is getting the worst of it! At that point, Papa Shango takes of his top hat and slaps his forehead three times! A few seconds later, Rotundo reverses an Irish whip and sends Dr. Death headfirst into the ring post! Doc is a bloody mess after that! Rotundo delivers a Samoan drop onto the floor and then rolls into the ring, beating Carl Fergie’s 20 count and getting the win! Papa Shango is laughing as he leaves the arena! Magnum and Les both say that they’ve never seen a situation like this!
Before we go off the air, Lance urges the fans to call their cable provider and order the FRIGHT NIGHT PPV!
