They welcome us to this week’s episode of Asahi TV’s “World Pro-Wrestling”!
This week, we’ll see the ongoing rivalry between the former members of Raging Staff continue, as Super Strong Machine faces Hiro Saito!
The IWGP tag champs Jurassic Powers will face the J-J-Jacks in a non-title match!
Two young stars team up, as Masahiro Chono joins Kensuke Sasaki to face Kengo Kimura and Tatsutoshi Goto of Heisei Ishingun!
And, the feature match, will see Jushin Thunder Liger defend the IWGP Jr heavyweight title against the masked Black Tiger!
Before we get to the televised matches, we see some short clips of the matches that took place before the cameras started rolling. We see two youngsters square off in the curtain-jerker, as Shinjiro Ohtani pins Yuji Nagata after a Dragon Suplex. Ohtani has started wrestling a more serious, no-nonsense style.
From there, we see a rare women’s match in NJPW, as Cutie Suzuki and Bolshoi Kid defeat Mima Shimoda and Chaparita Asari. Suzuki, the veteran, pins the rookie Asari with the Cutie Special.
Hiroyoshi Yamamoto has returned from a short excursion to Europe, and now goes by the name Hiroyoshi Tenzan. Here, Tenzan teams up with Kuniaki Kobayashi to defeat El Samurai and Satoshi Kojima when Kobayashi pins Kojima with a Fisherman Suplex.
And in singles action, Hiroshi Hase, who along with Keiji Mutoh, won this year’s SG Tag League, pins American Wayne Bloom in around 12 minutes with his Northern Lights Suplex.
SUPER STRONG MACHINE (w/ Akira Taue) defeats HIRO SAITO (w/ Shiro Koshinaka). After Raging Staff was forced to split up after losing a tag team match to Heisei Ishingun, most of the former members joined Ishingun. However Machine aligned himself with the invaders from All Japan Pro Wrestling. This match is an all-out war, as these two former friends and stablemates tear into each other with reckless abandon! At one point, Taue and Koshinaka get into it on the floor, with Machine and Saito joining in. In the end, Machine gets the win after connecting with a diving headbutt from the top rope for the 1, 2, 3!
NON-TITLE MATCH:
THE JURASSIC POWERS: SCOTT NORTON & HERCULES HERNANDEZ defeat THE J-J-JACKS: AKIRA NOGAMI & TAKAYUKI IIZUKA. The J-J-Jacks have been improving as a team with each match, but they’re just no match for the monster gaijin duo of Norton and Hernandez. The champions seem to be enjoying themselves, as they pummel their opponents, often ignoring the referee and double-teaming the Jacks. Nogami and Iizuka manage to fight back, but it’s short-lived, and the Jurassic Powers get the win in just under 8 minutes when Norton drives Iizuka into the mat with a vicious Powerslam for the pinfall!
We see footage of TONY HALME boxing in Finland, pummeling several different opponents.
Wakabayashi and Yamamoto announce that Tony Halme will return to New Japan on next week’s show, as he faces the legend Antonio Inoki in a Boxer vs Wrestler match!
MASAHIRO CHONO & KENSUKE SASAKI defeat HEISEI ISHINGUN: KENGO KIMURA & TATSUTOSHI GOTO. Goto joined Heisei Ishingun after they forced Raging Staff to disband back in September. Chono and Sasaki have started teaming together recently, and have proven to be a very talented team. This match goes back and forth, with both teams getting plenty of offence, but in the end, Chono breaks out one of the new moves that he’s been perfecting recently, a running kick to the back of Goto’s head for the 1, 2, 3!
IWGP JUNIOR HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP:
JUSHIN THUNDER LIGER (champ, 4th defence) defeats BLACK TIGER. Black Tiger was a long-time foe for the original Tiger Mask, and now he’s set his sights on Jushin Thunder Liger and the IWGP Jr heavyweight title! The match is a wild, fast-paced affair that goes back and forth, both men get plenty of offence in, but in the end, it’s the champion retaining his title when he hits Black Tiger with a devastating top-rope Frankensteiner for the 1, 2, 3!
Wakabayashi and Yamamoto wrap things up and hype next week’s show.
