They welcome us to this week’s episode of Asahi TV’s “World Pro-Wrestling”!
This week, we’ll see junior heavyweight action as Jushin Thunder Liger faces El Samurai in a non-title match!
After Doug Furnas was pinned in last week’s 6-man main event, his partners Scott Norton and Hercules Hernandez, upset over the loss, challenged Furnas and his regular tag team partner Dan Kroffat to a match here today!
Tatsumi Fujinami and Masahiro Chono face the shoot style wrestlers Yoshiaki Fujiwara and Osamu Kido!
And, in our main event, Keiji Mutoh and Shinya Hashimoto square off with the gaijin duo of Stan Hansen and Dan Spivey!
Before we get to the first match, we see highlights of some of the earlier matches on the card. The card began with Yuji Nagata defeating Shinjiro Otani by submission with a single-leg crab. The Raging Staff team of Super Strong Machine, Tatsutoshi Goto and Hiro Saito defeated their bitter rivals Heisei Ishingun, represented by Kuniaki Kobayashi, Masashi Aoyagi and Akitoshi Saito, when Machine hit a devastating Enzui Lariat to the back of the head of Akitoshi Saito, knocking him senseless. Tiger Mask III pinned Norio Honaga with a Tiger Suplex. Kengo Kimura and Shiro Koshinaka, of Heisei Ishingun, defeated the New Japan Seikigun team of Hiroshi Hase and Satoshi Kojima when Koshinaka pinned Kojima after a Powerbomb.
JUSHIN THUNDER LIGER defeats EL SAMURAI. We’re treated to a fast-paced, high flying spectacle here, as both men break out some very innovative offense! Samurai gives the junior heavyweight champ all he can handle, but in the end, Liger hits a devastating top-rope brainbuster to get the 1, 2, 3!
VTR: Last Week on World Pro-Wrestling:
However, Fujinami turns the tide of the match when Furnas attempts to kick him in the gut, but Fuji catches his leg, then delivers a brutal Dragon Screw Leg Whip, leaving Furnas clutching at his knee on the mat! From that point on, Fujinami, Choshu and Hase target Furnas’ knee, and keep him in the ring, taking turns working over the knee.
Several times, Norton and Hernandez have to come in to help Furnas.
In the end, as Fujinami and Hase brawl with Norton and Hernandez outside the ring, Riki Choshu locks Furnas in the Scorpion Lock. Furnas fights the pain for as long as he can, but with Norton and Hercules both busy on the outside, Furnas has no choice but to submit!
END VTR
After that loss, which Norton and Hernandez blamed on Furnas, they demanded a match today against Furnas and Dan Kroffat, the Can-Am Connection.
THE JURASSIC POWERS: SCOTT NORTON & HERCULES HERNANDEZ defeat THE CAN-AM CONNECTION: DAN KROFFAT & DOUG FURNAS. While Norton and Hercules are big, strong power wrestlers, the Can-Am’s style is based more on excellent technical wrestling, so we get an interesting contrast of styles here.
Furnas, the former powerlifter, holds his own when matching power with the Jurassic Powers, at least early on in the match, while Kroffat uses his speed to stay out of reach, and then take the Powers down to the mat and work them over.
In the end, though, Norton and Hernandez’s power is just too much for Kroffat and Furnas to overcome, and Hercules gets the pin after hoisting Kroffat up into an Argentine Backbreaker, but then drops to his knees, jarring the back of Kroffat, and Hercules quickly hooks Kroffat’s leg and gets the 1, 2, 3!
Before the next match begins, the commentators talk about the third annual G1 Climax, which will run from August 2 to August 8, from Tokyo’s famed Ryogoku Kokugikan!
They mention that Masahiro Chono, who we will see in the next match, has won both previous G1 Climax tournaments!
NEW JAPAN SEIKIGUN: TATSUMI FUJINAMI & MASAHIRO CHONO defeat YOSHIAKI FUJIWARA & OSAMU KIDO. We see a mix of traditional, strong-style wrestling, from Chono and the Dragon, and the more strike-based shoot-style wrestling of Fujiwara and Kido. The veterans gain the upper hand on Chono, but when Fujinami tags in, he turns the tables.
In the end, it’s the youngster Chono that gets the win for his team. After Fujinami hit a Dragon Screw on the leg of Kido, he worked on the knee, and when Chono tagged in, he continued to focus on the knee, and eventually locked on the STF for the submission victory!
STAN HANSEN & DAN SPIVEY defeat KEIJI MUTOH & SHINYA HASHIMOTO. We saw Masahiro Chono get the win for his team in the last match, we’ll see if the other two Three Musketeers, Mutoh and Hash, can get the win as well.
Mutoh uses his quickness to keep the big gaijins off balance, and when Hashimoto comes in, he shows that he can match the power and devastating offense of Hansen and Spivey, as he simply kicks the hell out of them!
Things are going well for Mutoh and Hashimoto, and when Mutoh hits Spivey with a Moonsault, it looks like it might be all over. However, Hansen comes to break up the pin, by dropping a knee right onto the back of Mutoh’s head, stunning the youngster. Hansen proceeds to pound Mutoh into the mat, while Spivey recovers and knocks Hash out of the ring.
Hansen and Spivey then hit a Spike Piledriver on Mutoh, and as Spivey keeps Hashimoto at bay, Hansen hits Mutoh with a devastating Western Lariat! Mutoh is out, and Hansen covers him for the 1, 2, 3!
VTR: Last Week on World Pro-Wrestling:
After the match, Fujinami, Choshu and Hase celebrate in the ring while their opponents head to the back. Suddenly, the All Japan wrestlers hop the guardrail and enter the ring!
There’s a heated confrontation between the New Japan wrestlers and the All Japan group! Referees and young lions get in between the two sides before things can get physical, but the two groups continue to yell back and forth at each other as they’re removed from the ring!
END VTR
Wakabayashi and Yamamoto talk about the incident we just saw, at the end of last week’s show. Wakabayashi says that on next week’s show, we’ll see some interpromotional matches between the stars of New Japan and All Japan!
Wakabayashi and Yamamoto wrap things up, and hype next week’s show.
