VTR: Jushin Liger vs Tiger Mask III, 5-3-93, JIP:
The match is fast and furious, both men give it their all for the Tokyo Dome fans. We see some innovative high flying from both men. Liger eventually gains the upper hand, and looks to be on his way to victory. When he sets TM up for the top-rope Frankensteiner, Tiger Mask is somehow able to block it, and instead jumps off the turnbuckle, driving Liger into the mat with a brutal Powerbomb!
Liger looks to be out, but Tiger Mask picks him up, and delivers the Tiger Suplex for the 1, 2, 3!!!!!
What an upset! The youngster, Tiger Mask III, has just pinned the World Jr heavyweight champion Jushin Thunder Liger in front of 50,000+ in the Tokyo Dome!
After getting his hand raised, Tiger Mask takes the house mic and asks Liger for a shot at the World Jr heavyweight title. Liger accepts, and the two men shake hands.
END VTR
The commentators announce that Tiger Mask III will get his shot at the World junior heavyweight title in two week’s time, on the June 10 edition of All Japan Pro Wrestling from Sapporo.
We go to pre-recorded comments from Tiger Mask III in the locker room after his win over Liger.
Tiger Mask says that, ever since he decided to pursue a career in this great sport, his goal has been to one day defeat the legendary Jushin Liger! He says that he accomplished that goal here in the biggest event in the history of puroresu!
Now, his next goal to accomplish is to become the World junior heavyweight champion, to prove that he is the very best junior heavyweight in wrestling today! He has the opportunity to achieve that goal on June 10 in Sapporo! He says that he won’t be denied, and he will leave the Nakajima Sports Center as the new World champion!
SCOTT NORTON & BAM BAM BIGELOW defeat THE FANTASTICS: BOBBY & JACKIE FULTON. The Fulton brothers are an incredibly talented team, and they hold their own against the bigger, stronger and more vicious team of Norton and Bigelow. The entire match lasts almost 20 minutes, although it’s edited down for TV.
Even though they’re both foreign teams, the fans in Korakuen Hall seem to be solidly behind the Fantastics, although they do cheer the big moves from the Norton and Bigelow team. In the end, after a hard-fought back and forth match, Norton and Bigelow get the win when Bam Bam shocks the fans in attendance by delivering a Moonsault off the top rope onto Jackie for the 1, 2, 3! That move, so surprising from a man Bigelow’s size, gets a big reaction from the fans, who appreciate his athletic ability.
TATSUMI FUJINAMI (w/ Masahiro Chono & Kensuke Sasaki) beats JUN AKIYAMA (w/ Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue). There’s a bit of a confrontation between Fujinami, Chono and Sasaki and the All Japan wrestlers Akiyama, Kawada and Taue before the opening bell, but referee Red Shoes Unno is able to get order restored before there’s any physicality between the two sides.
This is basically a glorified squash, it lasts about 7 minutes, all of which is shown on TV. Akiyama is only a rookie, although he’s already shown he has a lot of talent, and a lot of heart! He takes the fight to Tatsumi to start, which seems to surprise Fujinami, but the Dragon quickly turns the tables, before driving Akiyama into the mat with the Dragon Suplex for the 1, 2, 3!
VTR: Misawa vs Great Muta, 5-3-93, JIP:
Misawa soon makes a comeback, and stuns Muta with some vicious chops and elbow strikes. He connects with the Rolling Elbow, but Muta quickly rolls under the bottom rope and to the floor.
Muta takes a breather, pacing around ringside, but Misawa decides not to wait for Muta to get back in the ring, he runs the ropes and dives through the ropes with a suicide dive elbow smash! The champion then pummels Muta on the floor, before throwing him back in the ring.
Back inside, Misawa stays on the offensive, and methodically wears Muta down. However, the challenger still has plenty of fight left, and a shot to the throat stops Misawa dead in his tracks! Muta then goes on the offensive, pummelling Misawa!
After wearing Misawa down, Muta heads to the top rope for another Moonsault attempt! This time, he connects, and covers Misawa. The referee is right there for the count . . . ONE . . . TWO . . . TWO AND A HALF . . . Misawa gets a shoulder up at the last second!
Muta pulls Misawa up, and connects with some kicks, then a big roundhouse kick to the head of the champion, and that sends Misawa reeling back into the turnbuckles . . . but Misawa explodes out of the corner with another Rolling Elbow! Misawa falls on top of Muta, and gets a very close nearfall, but Muta kicks out at 2!
Misawa then hoists Muta up, and drives him into the mat, right on his head, with the Tiger Driver ’91!!!!
This time, Muta can’t kick out, and Mitsuharu Misawa gets the three count, to successfully retain the Triple Crown championship!
END VTR
The commentators talk about the Misawa and Muta match, calling it a classic, and hope that we can see those two in the ring together again at some point down the road.
Misawa’s next title match will air on August 12, from Tokyo’s Nippon Budokan, against the man that who not only won the Champion Carnival, but actually beat Misawa in that tournament, Tatsumi Fujinami!
RIKI CHOSHU & HIROSHI HASE (w/ Masahiro Chono & Kensuke Sasaki) beat KENTA KOBASHI & TSUYOSHI KIKUCHI (w/ Jun Akiyama & Toshiaki Kawada). Kobashi and Kikuchi’s All Asia tag team titles aren’t on the line here, and that’s a good thing for them, because they fall in defeat to Choshu and Hase at around the 15-minute mark. Both teams get plenty of offense, but in the end, Choshu nearly takes Kikuchi’s head off with a Lariat for the pinfall victory!
The commentators note that, on next week’s show, we’ll see a match between the Can-Am Express and the Fantastics to determine the #1 contenders to Kobashi and Kikuchi’s All Asia tag team titles.
MITSUHARU MISAWA defeats BAD NEWS ALLEN COAGE. Coage uses his judo skills, as well as plenty of brawling, to gain the upper hand on Misawa, but in the end, Misawa hits Coage with the Tiger Driver for the pinfall victory in just over 9 minutes.
Wakabayashi, Takeuchi and Baba wrap things up. They hype next week’s show, which will see the Can-Am Express and the Fantastics meet to determine the top contenders to the All Asia tag titles, as well, we’ll see Toshiaki Kawada and Akira Taue make the first defense of their newly won World tag team titles when they face Hiroshi Hase and Kensuke Sasaki from New Japan Pro Wrestling!
