KENJI WAKABAYASHI and KOSUKE TAKEUCHI open the show.
They welcome us to this week’s episode of “All Japan Pro Wrestling”!
This week, we wrap up the Champion Carnival!
We’ll see Toshiaki Kawada square off with Kenta Kobashi!
Tatsumi Fujinami meets Akira Taue!
And in the big feature bout, Mitsuharu Misawa faces Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy!
CHAMPION CARNIVAL MATCH:
TOSHIAKI KAWADA [18] beats KENTA KOBASHI [12]. The number two and number three wrestlers in the Super Generation Army square off in our opening contest. We see the final 15 minutes of a 20+ minute match.
Kobashi, as usual, wins the crowd over with his heart, determination and fighting spirit, as he takes plenty of abuse from Kawada. Dangerous K has the match in hand, but Kobashi slowly fights back, and after some elbow shots that would make Misawa proud, Kobashi puts Kawada on the mat with a dropkick. Kenta heads to the top rope and attempts the Moonsault . . . but Kawada rolls out of the way and Kobashi crashes to the mat!
Kawada pulls Kenta up, and delivers a Powerbomb, but Kobashi kicks out! Toshiaki then goes for the Gamegiri, but Kobashi dodges it, and stuns Kawada with a flurry of offense! Kawada fights back, and delivers a vicious roundhouse kick to the head of Kobashi that knocks Kenta senseless, but he somehow still kicks out of Kawada’s pin attempt!
Kawada delivers another Powerbomb, and again Kenta kicks out! At this point, Kawada has to be wondering what he needs to do to put Kobashi away!
Kawada hits ANOTHER Powerbomb, and this time, Kenta stays down for the three-count! This puts Kawada up to 18 points in the Carnival, while Kobashi remains at 12.
A promo video airs for SUPER BATTLE IN TOKYO DOME!
We’re mere days away from All Japan taking over the Tokyo Dome for the biggest card in the company’s history!
Scheduled matches include:
Jushin Liger vs Tiger Mask III! Liger has won the first two matches between them, but Tiger Mask has continued to improve, and he feels this is his time to finally beat Liger!
The Miracle Violence Connection defend the World tag team titles against Toshiaki Kawada and Akira Taue!
WWF superstar Sting will return to Japan, as he faces Riki Choshu! Both men use the Scorpion Lock as one of their signature moves, and on May 3 we’ll find out who’s is better!
In a battle of four of the biggest names in Japan in the last 20 years, Giant Baba teams up with Genichiro Tenryu to face Antonio Inoki and Tatsumi Fujinami!
And, the main event, a dream match for the Triple Crown, Mitsuharu Misawa defends the belts against the Great Muta!
We hear comments from some of the wrestlers that will be involved:
Tiger Mask III says that he lost his first two matches to Jushin Thunder Liger, but he’s been training harder than ever, and he feels that May 3 will be his night to finally defeat Liger and prove that he belongs at the top of the junior heavyweight division!
Sting can’t wait to return to Japan! He’s wrestled in the Big Egg before, and says there’s no experience quite like it! He has a lot of respect for Riki Choshu, and he’s looking forward to facing him on May 3!
Giant Baba & Genichiro Tenryu talk about their tag team match against Antonio Inoki and Tatsumi Fujinami. Baba says that he and Inoki were once a great tag team, but their careers took different paths, and they never had the big match against each other that both men so badly wanted. Baba says that on May 3, he finally has the chance to prove himself against Inoki! Tenryu says that Tatsumi Fujinami came into AJPW with the others from New Japan, and disrespected the entire roster here in All Japan. He says he just can’t let that go, and he’ll put Fujinami in his place on May 3!
Mitsuharu Misawa says that, previously, he said he didn’t always feel as though he deserved to be wearing these belts. Now, on May 3, he has the opportunity to defend them against one of the biggest names ever, the Great Muta! He says that this will be the test that he needs, and if he can defeat Muta at the Tokyo Dome, he will have finally proven to all these fans, and to himself, that he is worthy of being called the Triple Crown champion!
CHAMPION CARNIVAL MATCH:
TATSUMI FUJINAMI [22] defeats AKIRA TAUE [17]. Fujinami shows why he’s still considered one of the top wrestlers anywhere in the world, as he puts on a technical wrestling clinic here! Taue is game, and he holds his own throughout the match, but Fujinami hits a Dragon Screw legwhip, injuring Taue’s leg, and that’s the beginning of the end for Taue.
Fujinami focuses on the leg for the rest of the match, and eventually gets the submission win when he locks Taue in a kneebar. Taue tries to fight it, but finally submits, before more serious damage is done to his knee.
CHAMPION CARNIVAL MATCH:
TERRY “BAMM BAMM” GORDY [19] defeats MITSUHARU MISAWA [20]. This 20-minute match is shown in full. Misawa controls most of the first 10 minutes, relying on holds like headlocks or chinlocks to keep the powerful Freebird under control. Gordy battles back, and things really pick up as we near the end of the match. Misawa responds with a German suplex, but Gordy is up again quickly, and responds with a vicious Lariat for a 2-count!
Gordy keeps the pressure on, he pummels Misawa, and then drives him into the mat with a Powerbomb! Misawa still has some fight left, and manages to kick out at the very last second!
Gordy continues to pummel the Triple Crown champion, and then hits another brutal Lariat. This time, Misawa can’t kick out, and Gordy gets the pinfall victory over Misawa!
Before the show ends, we see a graphic showing the final standings of the Champion Carnival:
